  • Patent number: 6624277
Abstract: The present invention relates to polyurethane polyol compositions comprising the reaction product of a polyisocyanate, a polyol, and a Guerbet alcohol having at least 12 carbon atoms or a Guerbet alcohol mixture having an average of at least 12 carbon atoms. Preferred polyols are &agr;,&bgr; diols and &agr;,&ggr; diols. The polyurethane polyol compositions exhibit very low viscosity and are particularly useful in very low VOC coating compositions. The resulting cured coating provides surprisingly improved properties.

  • Patent number: 6620228
Abstract: Resins and waxes made by reacting selected nucleophiles, including alcohols and/or amines, with an isocyanate are disclosed. The order of addition of the isocyanate and the different nucleophiles can tailor the distribution of di-urethane, mixed urethane/urea, and/or di-urea molecules in the final resin product. The isocyanate-derived resin and wax materials are useful as ingredients as phase change ink carrier compositions used to make phase change ink jet inks.

  • Patent number: 6613862
Abstract: A process is described which imparts exceptional antisoiling, anti-staining and repellent properties to carpets. The process makes use of a water-based exhaustion process wherein the water-based treating solution contains (1) glassy fluorochemical material, glassy hydrocarbon material, or combinations thereof; (2) a stainblocking material; (3) a polyvalent metal salt, acid, or combinations thereof; and (4) water. Subsequent to exhaustion, the wet treated carpet is heated, usually in a steaming step, rinsed, and dried in a dry heat oven.

  • Publication number: 20030158435
Abstract: A method for preparing organic products from aqueous solutions, such as waste or byproduct liquid streams and waste or byproduct gas or vapor streams, uses phase transfer catalysis to transfer a chemical species in low concentration from the aqueous solution to the organic phase or the aqueous-organic interface. The system has little or no organic solvent, and the organic phase contains an electrophile which participates in the reaction. In one embodiment, the aqueous solution is contacted with the electrophile and a phase transfer catalyst and, optionally, a pH adjusting agent in the event that the chemical species in the aqueous solution is not sufficiently ionized to react with the electrophile, and optionally an organic solvent. A method for continuously converting a chemical species involves this contacting step, separating the phases, then dividing the organic phase into the product, the phase transfer catalyst, and the optional organic solvent.

Abstract: A method for producing carbamates that enables carbamates to be produced at low costs, with high selectivity and high yield, and in a simple manner, and a method for producing isocyanates that enables isocyanates industrially used to be produced by using the carbamates obtained by the carbamates producing method. Nonaromatic amine selected from the group consisting of aliphatic amine, alicyclic amine, and aralkyl amine is allowed to react with alkylaryl carbonate to thereby produce carbamates. Also, the carbamates thus obtained are thermally decomposed to thereby produce isocyanates. When carbamates are produced in this method, alkyl carbamates can be obtained with high selectivity and at high yield by using simple equipment. Also, when isocyanates are produced in this method, polyisocyanates used industrially as the raw material of polyurethane can be produced in a simple manner and with efficiency.
