Abstract: A novel compound comprising a quaternary ammonium salt having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R- is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having a carbon chain length of from about 6 to about 18, and X.sup..crclbar. is Cl.sup..crclbar., I.sup..crclbar., Br.sup..crclbar., or OSO.sub.3 CH.sub.3.sup..crclbar.. The compound is soluble in water and/or isopropyl alcohol to form a true solution, which is clear and colorless at 70.degree. F. and which has particular utility as a fabric softening composition. The compound remains as a solution in water even at composition/water weight ratios of 75:25.
Abstract: Zwitterionic Quaternary ammonium sulfates, and sulfonates are provided as new compounds and as highly effective additives to lubricants and liquid fuels. They have a variety of desirable effects, among them being their ability to reduce friction in an internal combustion engine, thereby reducing the amount of fuel consumed.
Abstract: A novel composition of matter, the quaternary ammonium salt having the formula: ##STR1## wherein X.sup..crclbar. is Cl.sup..crclbar., I.sup..crclbar., Br.sup..crclbar., or OSO.sub.3 CH.sub.3.sup..crclbar., which forms a fabric softening compound that is soluble in water and/or isopropyl alcohol to form a true solution, wherein the compound is clear and colorless at 70.degree. F. The compound remains as a solution in water even at composition/water weight ratios of 75:25.
Abstract: The present invention relates to iodopropargyl-ammonium salts of the formula (I) ##STR1## in which R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and X.sup..phi. have the meanings given in the description. They are obtained, for example, by reacting tertiary amines with an iodopropargyl halide. In a second reaction step, the halogen anion can be exchanged for other anions, such as phosphate and sulphate. The iodopropargylammonium salts of the formula (I) are distinguished by high activity as pest-combating agents, in particular by a fungicidal as well as bactericidal activity.

Abstract: The pink color content often produced in products such as amine salts, amine oxides, betaines, quaternary ammonium compounds or other compounds derived from long chain alkyl amines is eliminated by treating the products with trace amounts of a bleaching agent. Heating of the treated amine at relatively low temperatures for a short period of time enhances the effectiveness of the bleaching agent. Long chain alkyl amines having a pink color may be similarly treated.
Abstract: A synthesis of Vitamin E has the condensation of 2,4-pentanediene and 1,2-epoxy-2,6,10,14-tetramethylpentadecane including intermediates in this synthesis which uses base catalyzed condensations of aliphatic compounds to construct the Vitamin E molecule from aliphatic precursors.
Abstract: A method of drying quaternary ammonium compounds for use as additives in the anhydrous anionic polymerization of 2-pyrrolidone is disclosed. The method consists of dissolving or suspending the quaternary ammonium compound in 2-pyrrolidone and distilling over, under reduced pressure, a portion of the 2-pyrrolidone whereby the water is removed.
Abstract: Zwitterionic diazonium salts, derived from aromatic amines, are aggregated by: (a) diazotizing said amine to a zwitterionic diazonium salt in the presence of a cationic surfactant or (b) diazotizing said amine and thereafter treating the resulting zwitterionic diazonium salt with a cationic surfactant, so as to give particles of the diazonium salts which are readily separable from the liquid mass in which they are formed.
Abstract: Water-soluble polyalkylenepolyamines which are not self-crosslinking and contain quaternary dialkylammonium groups, and which are obtained by reaction of polyalkylenepolyamines of the general formula ##STR1## in which R denotes hydrogen or methyl,y denotes the number 0 or 1 and the y's may be identical or different andx denotes a number from 2 to 15,with bifunctional compounds of the general formula ##STR2## in which z denotes a number from 1 to 6 andR.sub.1 and R.sub.2 denote lower alkyl or lower hydroxyalkyl, are suitable for use as auxiliaries in the manufacture of paper.
