The ratio between a diameter of the side strands and a diameter of the core strand is preferably about 1.3 to about 1.8. The pitch multiple of strands is preferably about 5 to about 8 and the pitch multiple of the wire rope is preferably about 8 to about 10. Both the core strand and the side strands preferably have shaped wires, having a flattened surface, at an outermost ply.

Abstract: A wire rope 10 includes a plurality of strands 12. The strands are formed from individual wires or filaments 14. The strands are wound about a central axis. A conduit 16 also extends along said central axis. The conduit 16 has walls that are permeable to a lubricating compound. The lubricating compound is injected into the channel 18 defined by the conduit. The lubricating material migrates through the conduit wall and radially outwardly therefrom to provide lubrication to the individual strands and filaments comprising the wire rope.

Abstract: A steel structure adapted for the reinforcement of elastomeric members has steel elements containing a plurality of steel filaments at least one of which filaments is provided with first and second crimps. The first crimp lies in a plane that is substantially different from the plane of the second crimp. Application of the both crimps can be carried out efficiently using two pairs of toothed wheels which are not externally driven. This arrangement renders it possible to obtain steel structures with an increased penetration of rubber or with an increased elongation at break.

The cable (10) is provided with an external coating (20) of polyethylene terephthalate. The coating (20) gives to the cable (10) a good resistance against corrosion, a good weatherability, a good adhesion and adhesion retention and a friction resistance which is comparable to the friction resistance of a cable with a nylon coating. The cable (10) can be used as a brake cable, a shifting lever cable or a window elevator cable.

Abstract: A hoist rope for an elevator is formed from synthetic, non-metallic materials. The hoist rope includes a plurality of load-carrying strands with each strand encased within a coating layer. The coating layers provide protection against wear and provide sufficient lubricity to permit relative movement of the strands to equalize loading on the strands. The plurality of strands are surrounded by a jacket. The jacket provides sufficient traction with a traction sheave, transfers traction loads to the strands while permitting movement of the strands, and provides a flame retardant characteristic to the hoist rope. In one embodiment of an passenger conveyor system, the hoist rope is engaged with a traction sheave having a sheave liner. The material for the jacket and sheave liner are selected to optimize the coefficient of friction between the hoist rope and traction sheave.
