Abstract: A marker delivery device, “adaptor”, for a MRI breast biopsy system is described and claimed. The marker adaptor for the MRI breast biopsy device provides the operator with the ability to easily mark after an MRI biopsy procedure through the biopsy sleeve. The flexible shaft marker snaps into the marking adaptor which creates the oval shape that mates with the inner surface of the sleeve. This locks the orientation of the sleeve and marker, with adaptor, together. The marker adaptor also contains a hard-stop which allows the user to place the biopsy marker in the correct location.

  • Patent number: 10405839
Abstract: A minimally-invasive tissue retrieval device includes a flexible, liquid-impermeable bag with wires attached to the interior surface by an attachment mechanism that releases the wires when pulled. The wires extend into the bag from opposing sides of the bag opening, down to the bottom of the bag. Ends of the wires extend vertically upward out of the opening and are attachable to a wire retracting element rotatably attached to a housing, such that rotation of the retracting element relative to the housing winds the wires about the retracting element, pulling them away from the interior surface, and upward towards the opening. The bag is insertable into a surgical cavity, where a tissue sample is inserted into the bag. Rotatably-retracting the wires cuts through the tissue, which can then be removed in sections through the opening positioned outside the surgical cavity to prevent the spread of tissue fragments.

Abstract: This invention provides a non-invasive diagnosis system that is not only capable of producing high-resolution, three-dimensional images of abnormalities of tissue growth inside the body but, it can also detect the type of abnormalities and their location using multispectral imaging techniques. It is possible to provide a portable, non-invasive device that is handheld and with which women may use to screen themselves for early detection of breast cancer without the need to visit a physician. As the present invention uses broadband sources and/or multiple coherent sources, secondary factors such as oxygen metabolism or blood volume associated with the cancer tissues could also be detected to provide further verification of the type. A transport device is configured to move the sample-receiving device in the hollow needle between the extended position and the retracted position. The transport device includes a bendable elongate element having a proximal portion and a distal end, the distal end being connected to the sample-receiving device. The bendable elongate element has a tooth surface that is engaged by a rotatable gear. A coiling device is configured to coil the proximal portion of the bendable elongate element as the sample-receiving device is moved linearly along the longitudinal path from the extended position to the retracted position by operation of the rotatable gear.

Abstract: Among other things, there are disclosed embodiments of full-core biopsy needles having an outer needle component and a middle cannula through a lumen in the outer component, through which a mandrel may be placed. The outer component includes an internal boss that reduces its internal diameter, and the cannula includes fingers that extend distally. When the needle is inserted for biopsy, tissue enters the outer component and cannula. Moving the cannula forward causes the fingers to engage a surface of the internal boss, resulting in the fingers curving into the tissue. The fingers pinch the tissue while reducing or eliminating compression of the sample to provide an easier removal of the tissue from adjacent tissue, as well as providing a block or backstop keeping the tissue within the needle. Gaps are provided between the fingers to further reduce damage to the tissue sample.
