Publication number: 20130041316Abstract: The present invention is a catheter device that includes a disruptable guidewire channel. The guidewire channel is configured to provide necessary trackability of the catheter along the guidewire during introduction of the catheter to a treatment site. Once treatment is completed, the guidewire channel can then be disrupted so as to free the guidewire from the catheter in situ. The apparatus of the present invention provides distinct advantages over existing over-the-wire and rapid exchange catheter introduction methods, including the ability to achieve much faster treatment implement exchanges, the ability to rapidly deliver multiple treatment implements in series, and the ability to maintain multiple treatment implements simultaneously at a treatment site using a single guidewire.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 14, 2012Publication date: February 14, 2013Inventors: Eric Gerard Johnson, George N. Publication number: 20090204069Abstract: The present invention is primarily directed to a rapid exchange catheter that permits axial movement of an inner conduit within an outer conduit comprising: • an outer conduit; • an inner conduit, suitable for total or partial passage over a guide wire, wherein said inner conduit is movably disposed within the lumen of said outer conduit, wherein the proximal end of said inner conduit is angled such that it pierces the wall of said outer conduit; • means for permitting axial movement of said inner conduit within said outer conduit, such that said movement is not hindered by the passage of the angled proximal part of the inner conduit through said outer conduit; and • means, situated at the proximal end of the outer conduit, for causing axial pushing-pulling movements of said inner conduit.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 13, 2006Publication date: August 13, 2009Inventors: Eran Hirszowicz, Shay Dubi

Publication number: 20090192455Abstract: Novel systems enable PTNA rapid exchange (RX) types of systems for ICAD, support balloon test occlusion, treatment of vasospasm after sub-arachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and facilitate aneurysm neck remodeling during coiling embolization. The systems disclosed include an embodiment having a catheter comprising a RX port for providing catheter support within and above the carotid siphon and distal vertebral arteries, a conformable, semi-compliant balloon manipulable to gain forward progress through intracranial vessels substantially narrowed by plaque in combination with at least a guidewire, and a tip disposed at a distal end of the catheter.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 7, 2009Publication date: July 30, 2009Inventors: David Ferrera, John Fulkerson, Isa Rizk, Stephen Sosnowski

Publication number: 20090177260Abstract: An inner catheter (36) for use in an endoluminal delivery assembly (10) includes a stiffening element positioned at a transition between a hypotube (36a), a middle tube (36b) and a distal tube (36c) of the inner catheter (36) having different flexibilities. The stiffening element comprises three stiffening wires (42) embedded within the internal wall of the inner catheter (36) at their proximal ends. The stiffening wires (42) extend inwardly and distally to meet at an apex (60).Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2008Publication date: July 9, 2009Applicants: William Cook Europe ApS, Cook IncorporatedInventor: Steen Aggerholm

Publication number: 20090149808Abstract: A rapid exchange balloon catheter having a proximal end and a distal end, said catheter comprising: a tubular metal shaft body extending from the proximal end along a majority of the total length and having an inflation lumen arranged therein, a plastics distal end portion bonded to the metal body in extension thereof, said distal end portion being provided with an inflation lumen in communication with a balloon, and a guide wire lumen, said guide wire lumen extending from a proximal side port to a distal end opening. To reduce the resistance to kinking, the metal body comprises a transitional region having reduced stiffness at the position of bonding to the plastics distal end portion compared to a more proximal position along the metal body.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2006Publication date: June 11, 2009Applicants: William Cook Europe ApS, Cook IncorporatedInventors: Palle M. Patent number: 7534223Abstract: A rapid exchange catheter comprises a guide wire lumen including a substantially sealed portion in which a lumen wall extends around an entire periphery thereof and a channel portion including a channel opening the lumen to an exterior of the catheter, wherein a width of the channel is less than a maximum width of the channel portion. A guide wire ramp extends into the channel portion, with the ramp extending further into the lumen of the channel portion as a distal end of the ramp is approached.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 2002Date of Patent: May 19, 2009Assignee: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventors: Michael P. Patent number: 7527606Abstract: The invention includes a catheter having an elongate main body portion and a distal body portion. The elongate main body portion has a proximal end and a distal end. The main body portion further includes a coil having at least one complete turn about a central axis, the coil defining a passage along the central axis. The elongate distal body portion extends from the distal end of the main body portion. In accordance with a further aspect of the invention, the distal body portion has a proximal end and a distal end and can include a guidewire lumen defined along at least a portion of a length between the distal end and the proximal end of the distal body portion. The guidewire lumen has a distal guidewire port and a proximal guidewire port defined in communication therewith. The passage can be in fluid communication with an exterior of the catheter.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2005Date of Patent: May 5, 2009Assignee: Abbott LaboratoriesInventor: Randolf Von Oepen

Publication number: 20090105808Abstract: A rapid exchange stent delivery catheter includes an inner tubular member having a proximal portion, a distal portion, a stent holding portion located adjacent the distal portion of the inner member, and a guide wire lumen extending from a proximal guide wire opening disposed distal of the proximal portion of the inner member to a distal guide wire opening disposed at a distal end of the inner member. The proximal guide wire opening has a first length. An outer tubular member is slidably disposed about the inner member. The outer member has a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a guide wire opening disposed distal of the proximal portion of the outer member. The guide wire opening of the outer member has a second length that is shorter than the first length and a guide wire ramp extends into, and is movable along the first length.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2008Publication date: April 23, 2009Applicant: Boston Scientific Scimed, Inc.Inventors: Michael Gerdts, Mary Bronson, August Powell

Publication number: 20090018502Abstract: A stiffenable balloon catheter assembly capable of being converted from an “over-the-wire” mode with respect to a guidewire extending therethrough to a “rapid-exchange” mode with respect to a guidewire extending therethrough, and vice versa. The catheter has a plurality of lumens, one lumen however, having a side opening with an obstructable galp, the orientation of which, determines the utilization “mode” of the catheter assembly. Stiffening stylets may be adjustably locked into the lumens, depending upon the “mode”, to control the stiffness of the catheter assembly during its utilization within a patient.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 4, 2008Publication date: January 15, 2009Inventors: Nikolaus Reifart, Erik Andersen, John E.
