The surgical access device also includes a rotation prevention mechanism configured to prevent inadvertent relative rotation of, and disconnection of, the upper housing portion and the lower housing portion. The rotation prevention mechanism is further configured to be selectively actuated by a user, such that, when actuated, the upper housing portion is selectively rotatable relative to, and disconnectable from, the lower housing portion.

Abstract: An aspiration probe tip for use in surgical procedures includes a body defining a first channel therein for aspirating material therethrough from a surgical region along a first vector. The body includes a straight portion connected to a first end and a curved portion connecting the straight portion to a second end. A fluid sleeve surrounds at least a portion of the body and defines a second channel between the fluid sleeve and the body for injecting a fluid into the surgical region along a second vector. An end of the fluid sleeve securely fits over the body to substantially seal the end of the fluid sleeve. The fluid sleeve further defines an aperture for injecting fluid along the second vector from the second channel into the surgical region. A combination of the aspiration of the material into the first channel from the surgical region along the first vector and injection of fluid into the surgical region from the second channel creates a cyclonic movement within the surgical region.

Abstract: A cannula for use in laparoscopic surgery has a central passage which may accept a trocar to create a laparoscopic incision in a body wall to an inner body cavity. A tubular section of the cannula is then pressed into the incision to form a port. The tubular section has passages through its walls for suturing needles and a source for insufflating gas. A tubular sleeve is slidably supported on the outer side of the tubular cannula for movement between a raised position clear of the needle passage exit ports and a lowered position blocking the exit ports to prevent insufflation gases from passing into the body wall.

Abstract: A rotary structure having a large upper part, a small middle part and a large lower part is formed between guiding blocks (11) of a guiding mechanism (1). A positioning groove (10) is disposed at the wasp-waist of the guiding block (11). The bottom of a sealing ring (3) is embedded in the positioning groove (10) to surround the guiding block (11). When a surgical instrument is inserted, the sealing ring (3) confined within the positioning groove (10) extends out of the gap between the guiding blocks (11) to surround the instrument. The contact area between the sealing ring (3) and the instrument provides a guiding function to different forms of surgical instrument and transforms a “soft-hard” friction area between the sealing ring (3) and the instrument into a “hard-hard” friction area between a plastic guiding surface of the guiding blocks (11) and an outer metal sheath of the instrument.
