Removable Cover Or Protector For Body Inserted Conduit Patents (Class 604/263)
  • Patent number: 8911424
Abstract: Methods and devices for preventing urinary tract infections in catheterized patients are disclosed. The device may be a cylindrically shaped antimicrobial hydrogel having a central opening and a slit along its length so that it can be applied directly over a previously inserted urinary catheter. An optional locking mechanism disposed about the slit can be used to secure the antimicrobial device to a catheter shaft. The antimicrobial device has features that conform to tissues near both male and female urethral openings. The inner surface of the device is adapted to provide for releasable engagement with the shaft of the urinary catheter. In one embodiment, the device may be placed on a urinary catheter prior to inserting the catheter in a patient. Locking fittings to secure the antimicrobial device against the urethral opening may also be used. Antimicrobial agents can be incorporated within the hydrogel or coated onto its surface.

Abstract: Described is a needle safety device comprising a needle hub having a radial protrusion, a needle coupled to the needle hub and having a distal tip, and an inner sleeve telescopically coupled to the needle hub. The inner sleeve includes a first track adapted to engage the radial protrusion. The first track includes an axial section and a radial section. When the inner sleeve is in a first advanced position (PA1) and a first angular position (P1) relative to the needle hub, the radial protrusion is engaged in the first track and the distal tip is covered. When the inner sleeve is in a retracted position (PR) relative to the needle hub, the radial protrusion is in the axial section and the distal tip is exposed. When the inner sleeve is in a second advanced position (PA2) relative to the needle hub and a second angular position (P2), the radial protrusion is in the radial section and the distal tip is covered.

Abstract: An apparatus (110) includes an activation mechanism (20) and a safety latch (122). The activation mechanism is operative to deploy a needle (116) to protrude out of a housing (112), the needle (116) having a longitudinal axis. The safety latch (122) is movably mounted on the housing (112) and formed with a needle opening (129) to allow the needle (116) to pass therethrough. The safety latch (122) has a first position wherein the needle (116) is aligned to pass through the needle opening (129) and a second position wherein the safety latch (122) is moved with respect to the housing (112) such that the needle (116) is blocked from movement in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof by a portion of the safety latch (122) distanced from the needle opening (129).

  • Patent number: 8801673
Abstract: A safety pen needle assembly is provided herein which includes a hub; a needle fixed to the hub having a distal end, formed for insertion into a patient, and a proximal end; a shield; a biasing means disposed to urge the shield from a first position to a second position; and, at least one adjustable tab or locking finger on the hub, the tab or finger being adjustable from a first state to a second state. With the tab or finger being in a first state, the tab or finger interferingly engages the shield so as to restrict movement thereof. The tab or finger in the first state retains the shield in its first position with the proximal end of the needle being exposed. With the tab or finger being in the second state, the tab or finger does not interferingly engage with the shield. As such, the shield is permitted to be urged proximally to the second position by the biasing means. In the second position, the shield covers the proximal end of the needle.

Abstract: A safety IV catheter includes a unitary, resilient needle guard received in a catheter hub. The needle guard includes a proximal arm or wall that includes an opening through which a needle passes for axial movement. When the needle is retracted from the catheter, it releases the force that had previously prevented movement of the needle guard within the catheter hub. This in turn causes the needle guard to snap into a position in which it is clamped onto the needle shaft and in which its distal wall blocks access to the needle tip. In this condition, the spring needle guard and needle can be removed from the catheter hub. A slot or crimp may be formed in the needle shaft that engages with the needle guard after the protected needle and needle guard are removed from the catheter hub, thereby to prevent removal of the protected needle from the needle guard.

Abstract: The present invention is related to a safe vein detained needle, comprises a detained needle seat fixedly provided with a detained trocar, a protective seat, a puncture needle seat fixedly provided with a puncture needle, a withdrawing part, and a pushing seat. Before a puncturing process, the pushing seat is pushed forward, such that the withdrawing part is coupled to the puncture needle seat. After the puncturing process is completed, then, the pushing seat is pushed backward, such that the puncture needle seat is drawn backward along with the coupled withdrawing part, so as to retrieve the puncture needle on the puncture needle seat into the protective seat. Thereby, the puncture needle is retrieved into the protective seat after the puncturing process is completed, so as to avoid the risk of accidental pricking wound to medical personnel by the used puncture needle.
