  • Patent number: 9021824
Abstract: An apparatus that efficiently supplies air to a fuel cell within a vehicle. In particular, a compressor compresses air and supplies a first portion of the compressed air to an evaporator and a second portion to a heat exchanger. A drain valve also discharges condensate water from a fuel cell to the evaporator so that the evaporator receives some of both the compressed air and the condensate water and supplies air humidified by evaporation of the condensate water directly to the fuel cell. A heat exchanger also receives some of the compressed air, transfers heat from the received compressed air to the evaporator, and discharges cooled air to a humidifier. The humidifier receives and humidifies the cooled air and supplies the humidified air to the fuel cell.

Abstract: The disclosed refrigeration-cycle equipment comprises a main circuit and an evaporation-side circulation circuit. The main circuit includes i) a compressor that compresses refrigerant vapor, ii) a condensation mechanism that condenses the refrigerant vapor, and iii) an evaporative mechanism that stores refrigerant liquid and that evaporates the refrigerant liquid. The evaporation-side circulation circuit includes a heat exchanger for heat absorption and a decompression mechanism. The refrigerant returns to the evaporative mechanism after the refrigerant absorbing heat in the heat exchanger for heat absorption and the pressure of the refrigerant being reduced in the decompression mechanism. The refrigeration-cycle equipment further has an interaction mechanism that prevents droplets contained in the refrigerant having returned from the evaporation-side circulation circuit to the evaporative mechanism from being fed into the compressor.

Abstract: A cooling system includes a first indirect heat exchanger configured to receive return air from an interior space and output conditioned air back into the interior space. The cooling system further includes a second indirect heat exchanger configured to receive outside air. A fluid conduit directs a flow of cooling fluid from the first indirect heat exchanger, through the second indirect heat exchanger, and back to the first indirect heat exchanger. A pump circulates the cooling fluid between the first and second indirect heat exchangers at a fluid flow rate that is relatively flow. Additionally, return air and outside air flows through corresponding indirect heat exchangers at air velocities that are also relatively slow. The relatively slow fluid flow rate and air velocities enhance an efficiency of heat transfer between the cooling fluid and the return air and between the cooling fluid and outside air.

Abstract: The heat exchanger includes heat exchange units. Each of the heat exchange units includes a plurality of plate fins and a plurality of flat tubes. The plate fins are arranged spaced apart from one another at intervals so as to allow air to flow therebetween. The flat tubes each have an L shape by bending and inserted through the plate fins so that a refrigerant flows therethrough in a direction in which the plate fins are arranged. The heat exchange units are combined to each other so as to form a rectangular shape. Thus, heat exchange can be efficiently performed by increasing the mounting area.

Abstract: A modular chiller unit comprising flooded shell-and-tube liquid heat exchangers that are interconnectable with like units to provide a bank of chillers with one large flooded evaporator and one large flooded condenser. The refrigerant circuits are interconnected so that the compressor in one operating unit circulates refrigerant in parallel through the heat exchangers of other non-operating units in the bank. Connecting flanges on the ends of the evaporator and condenser shells facilitate connection between units and also allow stable stacking of the heat exchangers in a single unit. A bank of these modular chillers may further include end caps for the heat exchangers in the last unit and water connecting heads for the heat exchangers in the first unit. This chiller bank combines the convenience and versatility of modular chiller units with the operating efficiency of large flooded evaporator and condensers.
