Patent number: 4195492Abstract: A post to extend through the pierced hole in an ear lobe. One end of the post has a stop that is positioned against one surface of the ear lobe. The opposite end of the post has a small male snap connector portion. A smooth and flat back with a small female snap connector portion therein is snapped on the post against the other surface of the ear lobe to retain the post in the pierced hole, but if the post or the back is pulled, the back automatically releases from the post to prevent injury to the ear lobe. The back has a barrier that prevents the post from passing completely through the back. The stop has and the back may have a connector portion for attaching interchangeable ornaments. When worn with no ornament attached, the earring is essentially nonsnaggy. Interchangeable ornaments are provided with mating connector portions to hold the ornament to the post during normal activity but whenever an ornament is pulled, to automatically release the ornament from the post to prevent injury to the ear lobe.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1977Date of Patent: April 1, 1980Inventor: Gordon A. Patent number: 4003216Abstract: An earring structure for use with both pierced and non-pierced ears including a generally U-shaped main body member at one end of which is rotatably attached a pivotal post and at the other end of which is rotatably attached a pressure member. The pivotal post can assume a position which merely extends the one end of the main body member when the earring is being used with a non-pierced earlobe. Both of the pressure member and the one end of the main body member define opposed relatively flat surfaces which hold the earlobe therebetween for non-pierced use and the pressure member defines an aperture for receiving the pivotal post for pierced use of the structure. The pivotal post is rotatable to a position perpendicular to the planar surfaces for pierced use.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1976Date of Patent: January 18, 1977Inventors: Anthony Robert Cecere, William McTighe

Patent number: 4003217Abstract: An earring construction for a pierced ear in which the earring is provided with a gap for receiving the ear lobe. The pin or ear wire which passes through the ear lobe and bridges the gap is provided at one end with a ball. The ball may be integral with the pin or wire. The ball is so mounted in the end of the earring that it allows the pin or ear wire to be swiveled in any direction as in a universal joint. The wearer can then push the pin or wire into the most comfortable position or angle for insertion through the ear lobe. The other end of the earring is provided with a slot at the bottom for receiving the end of the pin or wire. The universal mounting can be incorporated in a small finding consisting of a small socket or round member in which the ball end of the pin is mounted. This provides a ball and joint assembly which can be cast or molded in the end of a cast or molded earring. By embedding the preformed assembly, further assembly operations are eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1976Date of Patent: January 18, 1977Assignee: E. A. Adams & Son, Inc.Inventors: Andrew J.
