Key Operable Only Patents (Class 70/134)
  • Patent number: 4300374
Abstract: A key retaining cylinder for a lock operative on standard keys is disclosed. The cylinder of the lock includes an idler ring driven in rotation, with lost motion, by the lock plug. The idler ring is cooperatively disposed with respect to one of the pins so as to restrict the motion thereof when that lock has been used to lock the lock set and to not restrict the movement thereof when that lock has been used to unlock the lock set. Restricted movement of the pin together with the contrapment of the pin within the combinational notch of the key prevents removal of the key. Further features and embodiments are disclosed including provisions for symmetrical operation thereof for left-handed and right-handed doors.

  • Patent number: 4248068
Abstract: Deadlocking mechanism of the kind including a deadbolt slidably located in a casing so as to be projected beyond an end of that casing in an operative position, and to be substantially contained within the casing in an inoperative position. An actuator such as a key operated pin tumbler lock is operable to cause movement of the deadbolt between its two positions. The invention comprises an improved drive connection between the actuator and deadbolt, which includes a toothed pinion rotatable with the actuator and a rack cooperatively engaged by the pinion and arranged for movement with the deadbolt. That drive connection also includes two gear segments which rotate with the pinion and actuator respectively, and have intermeshing engagement during part only of the pinion movement corresponding to movement of the deadbolt between its operative and inoperative positions.

  • Patent number: 4234220
Abstract: Tamper-free exterior lock apparatus to affix to a door for maintaining latched engagement to the door's frame. Two sets of shackles, one pair fixed to a backing plate and the other insertable with respect to a lock housing, engage, respectively, a primary lock and a secondary lock so that no portion of the shackle is exposed when coupled with its lock. Primary lock guards protrude from the lock housing to restrict access to the primary lock. A slide bar having a latching portion at one end and a lip portion oriented perpendicular to the main portion of the slide bar at the other end is maintained in slidable relationship to the backing plate and housing to allow the movement of the lock apparatus from its latching position to its open position and to block the slide bar from movement when either or both of said locks is engaged to its set of shackles.

  • Patent number: 4229957
Abstract: A locking mechanism having at least one but preferably two locking bolts movably supported for guided linear movement in a housing between locked and unlocked positions. Where two locking bolts are employed, each locking bolt moves in a direction opposite from the other. The locking mechanism is characterized in that each locking bolt is comprised by at least two superposed bolt parts which are linearly movable along the longitudinal axis of the bolt relative to each other and are provided on the corresponding longitudinal edges with a plurality of spaced matching teeth having an angle of 10.degree.-80.degree.. A key is provided for guided linear movement through a keyhole perpendicular to the bolt parts and having teeth matching those in the bolt parts formed in at least one of its side edges and where two oppositely moving bolts are provided, the key has matching teeth formed in each of the side edges thereof.

  • Patent number: 4229956
Abstract: A locking mechanism is provided having a frame for mounting on a door or other closure. A movable bolt is supported on the frame for movements between extended and withdrawn positions. An additional member is mounted on the frame for slidable movements generally parallel to the bolt. At least two locking means are incorporated into the locking mechanism, the first of which releasably connects the bolt to the member, and the second of which releasably positions the member with respect to the frame. With the first locking means engaged, the bolt is movable together with the member. With both the first and second locking means engaged, the bolt is locked in the extended position. A securing means engagable with the first locking means prevents release of the first locking means. The locking mechanism is particularly adapted for use on storage compartments wherein a renter of the compartment will gain access by way of the first locking means and the owner will gain access by way of the second locking means.

  • Patent number: 4182145
Abstract: A key-operated security lock of the kind including a key-identification mechanism, a thrower turned by the key and a deadbolt, has the deadbolt isolated from the thrower, and includes means operable only by correct identification of the key for connecting the thrower to the deadbolt and for removing a stop preventing retraction of the deadbolt from its extended position. The said means preferably includes a lever pivoted to the deadbolt and formed with a locking projection capable of engagement with a complementary recess in a runner driven along a path parallel with that of the bolt by co-operation with the thrower to connect the thrower to the deadbolt as a result of pivoting of the lever which is prevented by a further member in the form of a pivoted arm which holds the pivoted lever in a position such that its locking projection is clear of its recess until the pivoted arm is allowed to turn by the key-identification mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4136540
Abstract: A cylinder lock, particularly a rolling gates cylinder lock, which may be mounted, at will, as a right or a left lock. The lock is provided with a sliding bolt which is guided for its movement into locking and unlocking position by a guide block housed inside of the lock casing. To the central portion of the sliding bolt a rack bar is secured, in mesh with the pinion operated by the cylinder of the lock. The said rack bar acts as an abutment member in cooperation with the lock casing in order to limit the sliding movement in both directions of the sliding bolt. Means are provided for fastening the said lock to a rolling gate by using nuts and bolts.
