The retainer has a diameter that is less than the diameter of the second slot portion, but the retainer diameter is greater than the width of the first slot portion. During installation, the retainer is engaged with the modular arm by first inserting the crank through the second slot portion.

Abstract: The present invention provides a modular data storage system that can constraint movement of a data storage module within an enclosure during operation, handling, and transportation. The present invention achieves the objective by employing compliant features at strategic locations in the data storage system by utilizing shock/vibration isolators and the frictional forces generated by the compliant elements to introduce damping effects. In addition, this invention provides a locking mechanism that will allow the user to smoothly insert, remove and firmly grip a data storage module.

Abstract: An improved locking mechanism and method for securing drawers and cabinet doors is disclosed which allows the drawers and cabinet doors to be only partially opened until the locking mechanism is unlocked. When the drawer or cabinet door is closed, the hidden locking mechanism of the present invention is entirely concealed from view behind the drawer or cabinet door. The locking mechanism of the present invention allows the drawer or cabinet door to be opened sufficiently to expose the locking mechanism, but effectively prevents the drawer or cabinet door from being more than slightly opened until the locking mechanism is unlocked. When the locking mechanism is unlocked, the drawer or cabinet door may then be fully opened.

  • Patent number: 5946953
Abstract: A storage cabinet is disclosed having a frame and a drawer movable with respect to the frame and a locking system. The locking system includes an input device having an output link movable along a path between a raised position and a lowered position and a lock blade (or coupling link) coupled to the output link of the input device, an output end and a fulcrum point. The locking system also has a lockbar coupled to the lock blade, a first locking element associated with the lockbar, and a second locking element associated with the drawer to be engaged by the first locking element. When the input device drives the output link to the raised position, the input end of the lock blade is raised and the lock blade pivots about the fulcrum point so that the output end of the lock blade is lowered and the lockbar disengages the first locking element from the second locking element.

The latch hook of a closing drawer can wedge the latch bar to turn an angle smoothly while the clutch and the sliding block remain stationary, so as to prevent causing any damage to the latch hook even when the cabinet is in a locked position.

  • Patent number: 5491993
Abstract: A lock having a housing and flange, a lock cylinder, a cam lever, and a lock nut. The housing has a length which is slightly less than the thickness of the panel into which it is to be inserted. Its exterior surface has axial ridges which engage with the inner surface of the panel hole in which the housing is inserted. The ridges preferably extend only a short distance from the flange. These ridges hold the housing in place and prevent it from turning in the panel hole. The lock cylinder, which fits within the housing, has a threaded portion extending outwardly to receive the cam lever and the lock nut. Tightening up on the lock nut serves to draw the housing fully into the hole and to clamp the housing in place. The lock cylinder is keyed to the inner surface of the housing; and the cam lever is keyed to the threaded portion.

  • Patent number: 5154497
Abstract: A method and apparatus for securing items in a storage unit comprise providing a cabinet with a plurality of drawers. Each drawer can be individually sealed by a break lock pull-tight security seal. As a security seal for a particular drawer is twisted and broken, items can then be obtained from the drawer. If a seal has been broken, a visual indication is made that the drawer has either been opened or tampered with. The inventory can thus be quickly and easily checked on a recurring basis without requiring each individual drawer to be checked since only drawers with broken seals need to be checked. The cabinets can be used to store pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, industrial supplies and/or any other supply for which an inventory must be maintained.
