Simulating Nonelectrical Device Or System Patents (Class 703/6)
  • Patent number: 8798974
Abstract: The present invention comprises a computer-implemented method for interactive geological interpretation, structural modeling and structural restoration, in which instantaneous feedback is provided to an interpreter. A software module is loaded into and executed by the computer system to implement the method of the invention. The method and system are employed by a technician or scientist, such as an earth scientist, geologist or geophysicist, hereinafter called an “interpreter”. Using the method and system, the interpreter can make skilled qualitative and quantitative appraisals of geologic structures that occur within the upper parts of the earth's crust, including both the current state of such structures and their kinematic development through time. One use of such appraisals is to evaluate resources found in structures within sedimentary basins, including but not limited to oil and gas resources. The method and system can be used to train novice and advanced interpreters to improve their understanding.

  • Patent number: 8798973
Abstract: A computer-implemented method of simulating an impact event in a finite element analysis used for assisting users to design or improve one or more structures is described. The structures are represented in a finite element analysis model that is divided or partitioned into a plurality of domains. Efficiency of the method is achieved when used in a computer system having multiple processing units and multiple contact interfaces defined and specified by users (engineers and/or scientists). Each domain is associated with or assigned to one of the processing units. A “group-able” correlation is established or determined between domains and contact interfaces so that data communications can be conducted in most efficient manner, for example, minimizing idle processing units during data communications.

In an illustrative embodiment, annotated simulation settings are associated with a source model in response to receiving the source model. The annotated simulation settings are derived from at least one of a set of user-defined simulation settings and default simulation settings. The annotated source model is transformed into an internal domain model using a set of links that are generated using a set of link rules. The set of links maps a set of source model elements to a set of internal domain model elements of the internal domain model. Results from a simulation of the internal domain model are mapped back to the source model to identify a context for the results. Thereafter, a target view model is generated from the internal domain model. The target view model includes the results presented in the context of the source model.

  • Patent number: 8768668
Abstract: A system and method are provided for optimizing parameters of a plurality of selected diagnostic and/or prognostic algorithms in a tunable diagnostic algorithm library. A plurality of sensed data sets having an actual diagnostic label associated therewith is supplied to each of the diagnostic algorithms. A value for each parameter of each of the algorithms that are to be optimized is supplied. A computed diagnostic label is generated for each of the sensed data sets using each of the selected algorithms, a fault model, and the values for each parameter, each of the computed diagnostic labels and each of the actual diagnostic labels are supplied to a generic objective function, to thereby calculate an objective function value, and the value of one or more of the parameters is varied using an optimization routine that repeats certain of these steps until the objective function value is minimized.

  • Patent number: 8768666
Abstract: Methods and systems for managing thermal load distribution on a portable computing device (“PCD”) include storing on a PCD a plurality of thermal load steering scenarios which identify simulated thermal load conditions for the PCD, corresponding simulated workloads that produced the simulated thermal load conditions, and thermal load steering parameters for steering the simulated thermal load to a predetermined spatial location on the PCD. A scheduled workload for the PCD is monitored to identify a match with one of the thermal load steering scenarios so that the workload may be scheduled according to a thermal load steering parameter. Another method includes initiating a thermal mitigation technique on a PCD and determining a current graphical load being processed by the PCD. A graphics feature associated with the current graphical load is identified. The graphics feature is then disabled while maintaining a frame rate to reduce temperature of the PCD.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a network may represent a physical system. The network may have an element that represents an entity of the physical system. A value of a state associated with the network may be identified (e.g., generated) using various techniques. The state may be a low-level state associated with the network. The techniques may include, but are not limited to, for example, generating the value based on a scaffold defined for the network, generating the value based on a target value for the state, and/or generating the value based on applying an operation to various values of the state. The identified value may be associated with an identifier. The identifier may distinguish the value, for example, from other values of other states in the network and/or other values of states in other networks.
