Abstract: A method for accessing data stored electronically in a computer system by a database software application has been developed. The method includes attaching a retrieving user interface to a primary software application that is currently being used by a user of the computer system. Next a data field is selected in the primary software application that contains specific subject data based on the user's activity m the primary software application. The subject data is determined in the data field with a pattern matching algorithm. Finally, a connected field is established between the primary software application and a secondary document management application, where the connected field is based on a pattern match in the primary software application and references related files of documents for access by the user in the secondary document management application.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method for managing and updating documents containing specialized content in a content management system (CMS) by chaining plug-ins. Rather than create a unique rule for each specialized scenario, a CMS may be configured to apply a plug-in chain in an order based upon a type of document encountered and/or configured criteria.

Abstract: Methods for transforming a query to remove redundant tables and eliminate superfluous join operations is provided. The methods provided transform queries to remove redundant tables and anti-joins, semi-joins, and outer-joins. Whether a table is redundant is determined based on a set of criteria which, if fulfilled, indicates that the removal of the table and the anti-join, semi-join, or outer-join operation does not impact query results. The removal of a redundant table from a query also results in the elimination of the anti-join, semi-join, or outer-join operation that references the removed table.

Abstract: A social network site with enhanced user interaction functionality. In one implementation, a method includes providing a personal page corresponding to a first user, wherein the personal page includes a digital pet module region comprising a representation of an animate object, an indicator of a current state of the animate object, an action selector control, and an action history comprising a user identifier of a previous user and an action selected by the previous user using the action selector control; receiving an indication of a selected action from a current user; modifying the state of a digital pet object based on the selected action; and causing a browser client to render the digital pet module region, the modified state, and an updated action history including an identification of the current user and the action selected by the user.

Abstract: A system and method of matching content for a customer and offering the content to the customer on a mobile device and downloading the content on a customer device is disclosed. The matching of the content may include matching a customer with categories and the content with categories. The system may include sizing the matched content in portion to the size of the display of the mobile device.

Abstract: A social network site with enhanced user interaction functionality. In one implementation, a method includes maintaining, in a data store, conversation messages corresponding to one or more conversation threads, wherein each conversation message includes temporal information, wherein the conversation threads are associated with two or more users; responsive to a request for a personal page associated with a first user, identifying the conversation threads associated with the first user; sorting, based on corresponding temporal information, conversation messages of the identified conversation threads; and displaying, in a sorted order, the conversation messages of the identified conversation threads, wherein at least one of the displayed conversation messages of a first conversation thread was entered in connection with the personal page of the first user, and at least a second conversation message of the first conversation thread was entered in connection with a personal page of a second user.

Abstract: Systems and methods for storing a copy of a web page accessed by the user while the user is online and displaying the web page upon a user request while working offline are described. The web pages may be accessed by the user while working online and automatically copied and stored in the memory. While operating in an offline mode, the user can access any of the web pages that were viewed. When the user is working in offline mode inputs a web page query into the browser, the browser checks if the web page requested is present in the memory. If the webpage exists in the memory, the browser fetches and displays the web page on the browser window. In case the requested web page is not available in the local memory, a message can be displayed on the browser indicating that the requested web page is not available.

Abstract: A method for performing parallel data indexing within a data storage system is disclosed. After the receipt of a group of data objects, the data objects are copied to an indexing module. Next, the copy of data objects within the indexing module are indexed by the indexing module while the data objects are being stored within a storage medium. The indices of the copy of data objects within the indexing module are stored in an index repository within the indexing module.

Abstract: An embodiment relates to a method for developing features for a product. The method includes monitoring a forum for messages and parsing a newly posted message in the forum. The method also includes determining whether the newly posted message contains a new feature comment and posting the new feature comment on a future feature list in response to the newly posted message contains a new feature comment.

Abstract: Techniques for object relational mapping in database technologies are described herein. According to one embodiment, in response to a query statement for accessing a relational database, a syntax tree is generated to represent semantic information of the query statement, where the query statement has a boolean parameter and is implemented as an SQL object. A data type of the boolean parameter is predicted based on the semantic information obtained from the syntax tree in view of a structure representing the syntax tree. The boolean parameter is configured to be either a numeric value or a string dependent upon metadata used to map the SQL object to the relational database. Other methods and apparatuses are also described.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for executing a distributed spatial data query. The present invention allows a client to perform spatial queries against spatial data stored in a various formats in various separate databases. A view of the data is created in the relevant databases, wherein the spatial data is converted to WKB and stored as a BLOB. A federated server contains nicknames for the various database views, and also contains views of the data where the BLOB is converted back to a spatial data type. The federated server presents to clients an application view of the distributed heterogeneous spatial data such that the clients can treat the data as if it were a homogenous data source. Also taught is incorporating distributed non-spatial data into the application view by creating a nickname and a view on top of the nickname which derives spatial information from the non-spatial location information.

Abstract: A method for performing disjunctive single-index access on a database is disclosed. The method includes a query engine determining whether a first OR predicate and a second OR predicate map to a shared index. Responsive to the query engine determining that the first OR predicate and the second OR predicate map to the shared index, the first OR predicate and the second OR predicate are ordered in an ascending sequence. A first range of the first OR predicate is queued. A first row of the shared index is probed for the first range of the first OR predicate. Whether the first row is disqualified by the first OR predicate is determined. Responsive to determining that the first row is not disqualified by the first OR predicate, the row is reported in a result reporting structure.

Abstract: Computer-readable media, systems, and methods for augmenting URL queries are described. In embodiments, a URL query is received from a user and it is determined whether the URL query is a simple URL query. Further, if the URL query is a simple URL query, an augmented query is created by word-breaking at least a portion of the URL query and the augmented query is associated with one or more ranking preferences. In various other embodiments, a URL query is received from a user and it is determined whether the URL query is a complex URL query. Further, if the URL query is a complex URL query, an augmented query is created that is identical to the URL query and the augmented query is associated with one or more ranking preferences.

Abstract: A method of processing a request associated with an electronic document in a document management system at a local replicated system, the method comprising the steps of first receiving the request. A repository term generator generates a repository term associated with an active component of a user interface. A search engine searches for a term corresponding to the repository term. An output device provides the result corresponding to the term. In an embodiment, the result may contain one or more repository terms, the user interface provides for a selection and display of this selected repository term. In another embodiment, the selected repository term is navigated and expanded to display the term in the user interface.

Abstract: Discovering peer-to-peer content using metadata streams involves capturing, for each of a plurality of devices, a content and metadata stream that describes a context of the content. The metadata streams are sent to a metadata repository contemporaneously with the capture of the content by the respective devices. Network queries of the streaming metadata are enable via the metadata repository, and, in response to the network queries, peer-to-peer access of the content is facilitated from one or more of the devices.

Abstract: A method of generating a user profile initially comprises receiving (201, 203) characterising data, and optionally user preferences, for content items. The characterising data describes characteristics, such as content or context characteristics, of each content item. The content items are then clustered (205) into content item clusters in response to characterising data associated with each content item. For each content item cluster, cluster characterising data is determined (207) in response to characterising data and possibly user preferences associated with each content item in the content item cluster. First characterising data is then received (209) for a first content item and a first content item cluster is selected (211) in response to a comparison of the first characterising data and the cluster characterising data of each content item cluster. Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed, perform methods for identifying and presenting the “best” answer to a given search query as it relates to a particular user based upon that user's behavior are provided. Upon receipt of a search query and determination of the search result items satisfying the query, it is determined whether the user has executed the same or a substantially similar search in the past and, if so, if there is a particular one of the search result items that s/he has a tendency to select when the search result items are presented. If a particular result is frequently selected, that result is prominently presented (e.g., highlighted, displayed with a border, displayed in a different font than other results, or the like) among the search result items making it easier for the user to quickly identify the desired result.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for providing command manager support for pluggable data formats. The present invention accepts arbitrary hierarchical input data structures even when the hierarchical input data structure represents hierarchical data in a structure independent of a specific type of data repository. A data mediator receives a hierarchical input data structure and determines whether if it is a snapshot structure or a delta structure. If it is a snapshot update, the command manager creates an in-memory map object structure populated with values from a data repository and compares it with the snapshot. Based on the comparison, it generates a DESPI hierarchical command structure in a format-specific mediation module, and the commands are executed in the data repository. If the hierarchical input data structure is a delta structure, the command manager generates a hierarchical command structure and then translates it to a DESPI-compliant command structure.

Abstract: Electronic documents are classified and compared according to their temporal qualities. The content of a document relating to an event is analyzed to identify temporal components. These components can be compared with corresponding counterparts in other documents to identify a relative temporal order. The invention can be used in environments such as automated news aggregators, search engines, and other electronic systems which compile information having temporal qualities.

Abstract: Present invention allows a user to rank web-documents that he or she accesses with a web-browser. Ranking of web-documents is facilitated by a client-based ranking module, a software program functionally compatible with a user's web-browser. A user sends voting information together with an identification number unique to each version of the ranking module and the URL of currently active web-document to Modelane ranker system for processing. While voting for the content quality of a web-document, a user is limited to only three options: positive, negative, and zero. Scores for web-documents are calculated in such a way as to give each vote an equal opportunity to affect a score. The method of score calculation is designed to separate the scores for each individual web-document as much as possible. The method allows systematic comparison of web-documents based on popular opinion of their contents and precise ordering of web-documents on a linear scale.

According to the invention, it is determined, when accessing a file, whether or not software required to process this file is already installed on the user's computing device, depending upon the type of the file. If the required software is not installed on the user's device, the address of a server from which this software can be downloaded or accessed through the network is extracted and decoded from the filename of the accessed file. A browser or file transfer program is launched on the user's computing device and a request for the required software package is sent from the user's computing device to the server corresponding to the decoded address from which it is downloaded or accessed. The software is then unpacked, if necessary, and installed so as to process the accessed file.

The processing means generates an origin unique ID using the information about the origin of the source entity, and a source entity unique ID using the information about the source entity. The processing means then concatenates the origin unique ID and the entity unique ID and calculates the hash of said concatenation result to generate a GUID and tags the generated GUID to the resultant entity.

Abstract: A method of merging and splitting calendar entries is provided. The method of merging includes initiating a Personal Information Management (PIM) that is configured to manage a calendar, opening the calendar, selecting a first calendar entry and a second calendar entry, and selecting an owner action selection of the PIM. The owner action selection includes a merge and split selection. Selecting the merge selection combines information of the first calendar entry with information of the second calendar entry, such that a new calendar entry is created that includes the combined information of both the first and second calendar entries. A time and/or place is entered for the new calendar entry having the combined information. Additionally, selecting a split selection initiates a first and second pane where the second pane includes two subsections with original calendar entry information that may be amended and saved as two new calendar entries.

Abstract: A content management system (CMS) monitors a user's activity for a document, generates corresponding usage data for the user, and binds the usage data to corresponding sections of the document. A relevance policy may be defined for a user and/or for a user's role. The CMS may then render the document to the user based on the usage data and the relevance policy. The rendered document may include displayed sections, hidden sections, and accentuated sections. The result is a document rendered to a user in a way that hides sections that are not of interest, displays sections of interest, and accentuates sections of high interest, all based on usage data that indicates how the document was accessed in the past.

Abstract: Upon receipt of a document request, a client assistant examines its cache for the document. If not successful, a server searches for the requested document in its cache. If the server copy is still not fresh or not found, the server seeks the document from its host. If the host cannot provide the copy, the server seeks it from a document repository. Certain documents are identified from the document repository as being fresh or stable. Information about each these identified documents is transmitted to the server which inserts entries into an index if the index does not already contain an entry for the document. If and when this particular document is requested, the document will not be present in the server, however the server will contain an entry directing the server to obtain the document from the document repository rather than the document's web host.

Abstract: An approach for providing efficient network data transfer service is provided. In one embodiment, a first database server receives, from a second database server, a first request to access a first storage subsystem. Here, the second database server cannot access first data in the first storage subsystem without another database server transmitting the first data to the second database server. In response, the first database server provides the second database server a first set of access primitives. Using the first set of access primitives, the second database server may access data stored in the first storage subsystem that may be otherwise not accessible. As a result, the first database server receives, from the second database server, a first data access request to access first data stored in the first storage subsystem.

Abstract: A system and method for discovering and displaying the compatibility between users of a search service is presented. The searching user registers with the search service and installs a web browser toolbar or component. The searching user browses web pages, and the toolbar searches each web page for identifying information. The toolbar then transmits the identifying information to a search server, which compares the identifying information with listed identifying information for other registered users. Upon finding one or more registered users corresponding to the identifying information, the search server then determines the compatibility between the searching user and each identified registered user, sending the compatibility reports back to the toolbar. The toolbar displays the compatibility reports to the searching user in the browser.

Abstract: Retrieving information from information sources using links. A set of information sources is preprocessed to extract content from text and existing links in the information sources according to some predetermined criteria. A set of search results is generated from amongst the preprocessed information sources in response to a received search query.

Abstract: Building an internal digital library for an organization includes accepting abstracts from members of the organization, the abstracts submitted for publication; performing internal review on the abstracts to approve or deny publication; storing approved abstracts in the internal digital library; and accepting papers corresponding to the abstracts and storing the papers in the internal digital library. The papers are stored regardless of whether they are approved for publication. Building the internal library further includes linking the abstracts to the corresponding papers; and making the abstracts accessible to members of the organization. Abstract: Intelligent assistance functionality is provided in development environments and/or other editors for schematized data. Input of a trigger character sequence can initiate an intelligent assistance box having data corresponding to a related schema. Thus, the intelligent assistance data can be dynamic as schematized data can change; the data can be queried from the schema as requested to facilitate this end. In one embodiment, the data can be an extensible markup language (XML) schema having a plurality of elements. In this regard, syntax can be entered into a development environment to effectuate an intelligent assistance box comprising the elements of the schema; a root level element can be displayed for an initial trigger character sequence. After selecting the element, another trigger sequence can be input to facilitate querying the schema for next level elements, and so on.
