Abstract: A computer-implemented method involving an object-based editing environment for defining a digital video as a linear arrangement of discrete media objects, each digital media object electronically stored as a digital file. The method includes displaying a graphical representation of a first digital media object within the editing environment; displaying one or more user interface icons associated with the digital media object; displaying a first menu in response to receiving a first user input; receiving second user input associated with the first menu and identifying a second digital media object; displaying a graphical representation of the second digital media object within the editing environment; and generating a digital video comprising the first digital media object and the second digital media object.

Abstract: Design time artifacts ordered in a dependency tree according to a call order defined by a database application accessing data in a database can be classified as source and/or sink artifacts. The dependency tree can be traversed in a direction reverse of the call order to determine, for each sink artifact, one or more required source artifacts upon which the sink artifact depends and that is needed to provide correct data inputs for operation of the sink artifact. Based on the traversing, implicitly dependent sink artifacts positioned earlier in the call order that their required source artifacts can be identified, and a new call order can be defined in which all of the required source artifacts for the implicitly dependent sink artifact are called before the implicitly dependent sink artifact.

Abstract: A matching system receives probe audio samples for comparison to references of a data store. Comparisons are generated to determine a sufficient match for a portion or a first amount of the probe sample. Ranking scores are assigned to the resulting match references. The match references are retained, unless meeting a score threshold. Comparisons are continually generated with second amounts of the probe sample and the retained references are updated with further matching references assigned ranking scores. The retained results are merged and determined to satisfy a score threshold for release as outputted results for matching references.

Abstract: An improved mechanism is provided for presenting and navigating bookmarks in a set of electronic reading material (ERM). In one implementation, when a portion of an ERM is displayed, a graphical element, which represents the contents of the ERM, is also displayed. A current location indicator and one or more bookmark indicators are further displayed on or within proximity of the graphical element to show where, within the ERM, the currently displayed portion is located and where bookmarks are located. This provides a useful graphical overview to a user. In addition, the mechanism may facilitate navigation to a bookmark by enabling a user to select one of the bookmark indicators to navigate directly to that bookmark. The mechanism may also enable a user to navigate sequentially from bookmark to bookmark using a previous bookmark control and/or a next bookmark control. With these capabilities, bookmark presentation and navigation are improved.

Abstract: Techniques to provide secure access to data are disclosed. An indication that an operator is assigned to index a data value extracted from a document image is received. A snippet or other partial image showing just a portion of the document image that includes a text or other content image portion that corresponds to the data value extracted from the document image is displayed to the operator. The data value is included in a subset of data values extracted from the document image, and access to the subset of extracted data values is provided to the operator without providing access to one or more other portions of the document image associated with extracted data values not included in the subset.

Abstract: A computer system for a narrational media organizer for transforming digital media into a personal, memorable story with minimal user input having a processor and storage with instructions for creating a narrational media organizer (NMO) environment, where a user can annotate one or more than one digital media file or graphical representations of the digital media files using a user interface; and an NMO data structure for storing the digital media and annotations of the NMO environment.

Abstract: An Image Based Document Management (IBDM) server includes a table generator, a symbolic representation module and a sort engine. The table generator generates a table from the form images, the table comprising cells with data types including image data, symbolic data, image and symbolic data and an empty value, and updates the table. The symbolic representation module converts at least one of the cells with image data to symbolic data. The sort engine determines, from a sort request for a column of the table received from a user, at least a first priority for a first data type, the column including at least two of the data types, determines from the sort request a second priority within one of the data types, and sorts the column according to the sort request.

Abstract: In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, a method of streaming media with a media preview includes generating a preview data by extracting preview information from a media file to be streamed. The preview data has a multi-dimensional hierarchical data structure having a plurality of layers with increasing content of the preview information in each layer of the plurality of layers. The preview data is configured to provide a differentiated preview service.

Abstract: Systems and methods for personalization using image clouds to represent content. Image clouds can be used to identify initial user interest, present recommended content, present popular content, present search results, and present user profile information. Image clouds are interactive, allowing users to select images displayed in the image cloud, which can contribute to presenting more personalized content as well as updating a user's profile.

Abstract: At least some aspects of the present disclosure feature systems and methods for note recognition. The note recognition system includes a sensor, a note recognition module, and a note extraction module. The sensor is configured to capture a visual representation of a scene having one or more notes. The note recognition module is coupled to the sensor. The note recognition module is configured to receive the captured visual representation and determine a general boundary of a note from the captured visual representation. The note extraction module is configured to extract content of the note from the captured visual representation based on the determined general boundary of the note.

Abstract: Described herein are devices, method and computer readable media that allow a device to display a portion of a web page on the touch screen display with concurrently displaying a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) entry area for inputting URLs of web pages, wherein the web page has a web page length, and the displayed portion of the web page has a displayed portion length that is less than the web page length. In response to detecting a gesture on the touch screen display, the device translates the web page in accordance with the gesture to display a different portion of the web page; and ceases to display the URL entry area for inputting URLs of web pages.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for scoring authors of social network content. One method includes obtaining a directed interaction graph having nodes representing users and directed edges including interaction edges representing interactions with one or more posts, assigning a weight to each interaction edge in the interaction graph, calculating a user score for each of the users from the graph, and providing the user scores to a ranking system that scores posts generated by users relative to other posts generated by other users based, at least in part, on the user scores of the users and the other users.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are systems, methods, and computer readable-media for adaptive media playback based on destination. The method for adaptive media playback comprises determining one or more destinations, collecting media content that is relevant to or describes the one or more destinations, assembling the media content into a program, and outputting the program. In various embodiments, media content may be advertising, consumer-generated, based on real-time events, based on a schedule, or assembled to fit within an estimated available time. Media content may be assembled using an adaptation engine that selects a plurality of media segments that fit in the estimated available time, orders the plurality of media segments, alters at least one of the plurality of media segments to fit the estimated available time, if necessary, and creates a playlist of selected media content containing the plurality of media segments.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems, apparatus, and methods of parsing a script within an HTML page. The method includes receiving a script object, where the script object includes text. The method further includes parsing the text of the script object for tokens and comparing the parsed tokens with a valid tokens list to determine locations within the text of the script object that include potential universal resource locators (URLs). The method includes parsing before and after the determined locations until complete URLs are constructed, and forwarding the complete URLs to a detector. The detector then determines whether the complete URLs are valid. The method then sends object retrieval requests to websites associated with the valid complete URLs.

Abstract: A system and machine-implemented method for expiring records of a web-based discussion is provided. A time value associated with a web-based discussion is received from one of several participants of the discussion. A record of the web-based discussion is stored. The record of the web-based discussion is deleted according to the received time value.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for providing an answer to a question left unanswered in an electronic discussion forum. In some embodiments, a question that has not been answered may be identified in a first discussion forum. A second discussion forum in which to present the question may be determined, where the second discussion forum is more likely than the first discussion forum to result in an answer to the question. The question may then be presented in the second discussion forum, and one or more responses to the question may be received in the second discussion forum. It may then be determined whether one of the one or more responses includes a good answer to the question, and when the determination is that one of the one or more responses includes a good answer, the good answer may be presented in the first discussion forum.

Abstract: A method for generating a trend report for a non-sentiment phrase. The method comprises generating a plurality of term taxonomies between non-sentiment phrases and sentiment phrases; storing the plurality of term taxonomies in a database; performing periodically at least a statistical analysis respective of the plurality of term taxonomies in the database; receiving a request for a report with respect of at least a non-sentiment phrase in the database; generating a trend report based at least on the at least statistical analysis; and providing the report to the requestor of the report.

Abstract: Client terminals report an easy-to-calculate identifier such as the Internet URL or a cryptographic hash of the content to a server. The server collects and counts the reported identifiers so as to obtain preliminary statistics. By aggregating these reported identifiers into the preliminary statistics, identifiers are revealed that are likely popular content. The server selects one or more identifiers from the preliminary statistics and makes these available to at least a subset of clients. The clients that obtain these one or more identifiers then access content and compute the easy-to-calculate identifiers as usual. If the computed identifier matches one of the identifiers obtained from the server, the client will additionally extract a watermarked identifier or compute a digital fingerprint of the content in question and report this to the server. The server then uses the received identifier or fingerprint to create final statistics by aggregating the preliminary statistics.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes an application management unit which manages the state of an application, and a package management unit which manages dependence relationship information between the package of an arbitrary application and the package of another application. The package is a group of files to be used to execute the application. The package management unit processes the application based on the dependence relationship information. Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes displaying, within a user interface in a digital media system, a thumbnail representing at least a portion of a media clip, receiving user input corresponding to a play speed at which a media clip is to be played, determining whether the received user input exceeds one or more predetermined thresholds, and selectively disabling playing of a video portion or an audio portion, or both, based on a result of the determination.

Abstract: A region classification server classifies a region based on region distribution information. The region classification server may include several databases to facilitate the classification of the region, including a classification type database, a classification evaluation database, and a region classification database. The region classification server may also include one or more interfaces for receiving region distribution information, such as an automated business listing interface and a user-input classification interface. The region classification server may also classify a region by modifying a classification evaluation stored in the classification evaluation database, where the modification is based on received user information. Moreover, the region classification server may provide the region classifications to other systems in communication with the region classification server, such as search engine providers, augmented reality developers, or other third-party entities.

Abstract: Client-server interaction frequency control may be provided. First, a collaborative electronic document may be loaded at a client device in a document collaboration session. The client device may then request a client-server interaction with a server hosting the collaboration session. Next, the client may receive input from the server indicating a state of the server. Abstract: A communication system includes a plurality of nodes, the communication system being arranged to assign each of the plurality of nodes a certificate by means of which it can authenticate itself to other nodes in the communication system and periodically distribute to the plurality of nodes an update formed by compressing a data set representing the validity of the certificates assigned to the plurality of nodes. The update is such that a node may not be able to unambiguously determine from the update whether or not a particular certificate is valid. The system further provides the plurality of nodes with a source of information about the validity of the plurality of certificates that is different from the update and by means of which a node may resolve an ambiguity in the update regarding a particular certificate's validity.

Abstract: A hardware and/or software system for calculating attorney ratings. Data associated with an attorney is collected from a variety of sources. The collected data includes information that can be used to assess how well an attorney might handle legal issues. The data is used to determine values of one or more attributes associated with the attorney. One or more ratings may be calculated for the attorney based on the determined attributes. Each rating may be based on a weighted combination of two or more attributes. The ratings may be converted to a format that is more comprehensible to a consumer and presented to consumers of legal services in a variety of different forms. An unbiased assessment of attorneys in the form of a rating enables consumers of legal services to make more accurate and informed decisions when selecting an attorney.

Abstract: Video media subscribers attempt to circumvent embedded ads in downloads by modifying the media files to render only the content feature. A media program is defined as an integrated set of media files including the requested content feature and the accompanying promotional materials. Media files associated with a particular content feature are stored as an integrated whole, and security tokens computed on selected random portions of the collection of media files that define the media program (content feature and interspersed ads). A hash engine computes a security token on selected blocks of the media files. The security tokens and corresponding metadata are stored in a secure repository. Before rendering the content feature, the hash values are recomputed on the downloaded media program; and compared to the corresponding locations from the stored hash values and metadata.

Abstract: An online ad provisioning system couples persuasive media items (ads) with an established viewership/recipient set by first identifying a popularity, or number of recipients of a requested media item, and subsequently associating the media item with an advertisement (banner, window, video segment) expecting the established viewership. While conventional advertising seeks to divert the readers attention before their eyes are on the page, the system identifies and targets recipients after their eyes are on the page (or screen, window, etc.). Such an association allows an advertiser to specify, for example, to associate an ad (persuasive media item) with the most popular web page, or to run a commercial in a video stream only if at least a predetermined number of viewers are receiving the stream.

Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer programs are presented for updating song playlists based on received rating inputs from user devices. One method includes receiving information associated with songs in an initial playlist from a host device by a server. The server generates a rating interface for the initial playlist, which is associated with an image code. The image code for the rating interface is sent to the host device so that the user devices can access the rating interface via the image code. After one or more user devices provides rating inputs to the songs in the initial playlist, the received one or more rating inputs are analyzed to produce an adjusted playlist. The method further includes transmitting the adjusted playlist to the host device to be executed.

Abstract: Tools and techniques are provided to assist detection of invalid clicks in website activity data. A system calculates or otherwise obtains a historic click quality characterization based on historic web analytics data. The system then identifies a click quality anomaly in the website activity data, namely, a departure from the historic click quality characterization. The identified anomalies may then be used to help guide searches for invalid clicks.

Abstract: Two selected checkpoints define a group of paths represented in an analytics database. One or more events which appear between the two checkpoints on each of a plurality of the paths are identified as common bridge events. Path analysis information is then output, such as a bridge event analysis including a list of website visitor common bridge events that are ranked by their frequency of appearance, the frequencies calculated without regard to where each visitor event appears on a given path.

The centralized selection context simplifies event-handling logic by having selection context readily available thus removing the need to query individual widgets for their state.

Abstract: Systems and methods for balancing electronic mailboxes among databases communicatively coupled to an information handling system are disclosed. A method may include comparing an actual utilization values for a first database to a threshold utilization value for the first database and, depending upon the results, identifying the first database as over-utilized. The method may also include comparing an actual utilization values for a second database to a threshold utilization value for the second database and, depending upon the results, identifying the second database as under-utilized. The method may further include comparing a threshold usage value of a first electronic mailbox stored in the first database to an upper threshold usage value for the first electronic mailbox and, depending upon the results, identifying the first electronic mailbox as heavily-utilized. The method may also include moving the heavily-utilized electronic mailbox to the second database.

Abstract: A media file playback system, method and computer readable medium which provides for the playback of a media file (e.g., audio files, video files, etc.) through a separate media organizer (e.g., Apple's iTunes®, Windows® Media Player, etc.) when the target media file is in a format that is incompatible with the media organizer (e.g., the Free Audio Lossless Codec files or FLAC format). The media file playback system generates a “proxy” pointer file that is compatible with the media organizer and prompts the system to play the incompatible media file. Advantageously, a user that would otherwise be unable to playback an incompatible file through the media organizer due to limitations of the media organizer (e.g., the restriction against playing FLAC files through the Apple iTunes® software application), is able to execute playback using the media file playback system via interactions with the familiar and centralized interface provided the media organizer.

Abstract: Architecture and its implementation of an event-based media management system and method are disclosed. A generic model for events is used for developing architecture for media management, called Eventcentric Media Management (EMMa) system. The system focuses on event experiences and provides flexible functionality for media management. The system and method analyze cross-media files for features to extract atomic events and apply algorithms to cluster files including similar or related features. Thus, the EMMa system allows unified media indexing of multiple media types, better abstraction of the real world, use of context, media processing operations to compute and store features and tags, and a more intuitive support for multiple users. It provides environments for querying and browsing media related to events and authoring of multimedia presentations for sharing with other individuals.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for analysis of semi-structured social media are described. A method comprises classifying a plurality of user-generated content entries into a plurality of categories based at least in part on an analysis of respective structured components of at least a subset of the plurality of entries. The method further includes determining, based at least in part on an analysis of additional components of entries of a particular category, a set of representative content elements of entries of the particular category, and generating a report that comprises one or more representative content elements of the particular category.

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for executing scripts (a sequence of declarative operations) on large data sets. Some implementations store descriptions of previously-executed operations and associated input and output data sets. When executing similar operations on the same, a subset of, a superset of, or any fragment of data subsequently, some implementations detect duplication of operations and access previously-stored output data sets in order to re-use data and reduce the amount of execution, thus avoiding time-consuming duplicative computations.

Abstract: A system and method for determining a newsworthiness score for a news story, including the steps of receiving data describing a news story from a client, comparing the data describing the news story to a set of pre-determined factors, locating the factors that are present on the set of pre-determined factors in the data, adding pre-calculated values to a running total, the newsworthiness score, for each factor found in the data.

Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed that relate to buffering portions of a digital content item in different orders for different users. For example, one disclosed embodiment provides a method of providing a buffer ordering for a digital content item. The method includes tracking content access information for each user of a plurality of users, the content access information for each user comprising information regarding how content portions of each of one or more digital content items were accessed by the user. The method further comprises providing a different buffer ordering for a first user of a selected digital content item than for a second user based upon the content access information.

Abstract: Technologies are disclosed for enabling users to comprehensively determine their exposures to media and to receive services based thereon. For example, an application can be executed on a computing device associated with a user. The application can continuously monitor audio data that the computing device is exposed to and can generate digital signatures thereof. The digital signatures can be transmitted to a server that comprises a database of reference digital signatures and circuitry configured to compare and match the received digital signatures and the reference digital signatures. When a match is found, the server retrieves information associated with the matched reference digital signature and returns, to the device, the retrieved information. The server can also concatenate matches associated with data received from a plurality of computing devices and provide the concatenated data to a third party, who in turn, returns services to the users based on the received data.
