Abstract: A method and an apparatus for splitting media files are provided. The method and apparatus enable a mobile device to automatically segment a media file into split files. The mobile device may download a large media file whose size exceeds the file size limit imposed by the file system. The method includes detecting a download event for a specified file, comparing the size of an event related file corresponding to the specified file for which a download event occurs with a file size limit imposed by a file system of a mobile device, identifying, when the size of the event related file is greater than or equal to the file size limit, a type of the event related file, splitting, when the event related file is a media file, the event related file on the basis of the file size limit, and storing the split files according to setting information.

Abstract: A system and method for bridging between various operating systems, applications, file formats and file structures and the like is described. The system and methods described include the creation of a virtual workspace transparent to a user that allows the user to access information stored on an accessible computer readable medium in a manner that is compatible with the user's system, even where the requested data may reside on a system having an operating system or file structure that is incompatible with the user's system or application.

Abstract: Techniques for writing data in a distributed database system having a plurality of members and a master are disclosed. In one embodiment, a write request is received at an originating member. The write request is applied to a version of a database on the originating member and is placed in a journal queue of items for propagating to the master in one single atomic action. The write request is propagated to the master. Whether the propagated write request is associated with a conflict is determined, and in an event it is determined that the propagated write request is associated with the conflict, an indication that the write request is associated with the conflict is sent to the originating member.

Abstract: An approach is provided for characterizing user behavior patterns. The behavior pattern platform receives a plurality of context records from a device. Next, the behavior pattern platform places one or more contexts from the context records. Then, the behavior pattern platform places the contexts into one or more context groups. Then, the behavior pattern platform receives interaction data from the device, associates the context groups with the interaction data, and determines a behavior pattern based, at least in part, on the association of the context groups and the interaction data.

Abstract: A file managing apparatus that controls uploading a target file to an online storage by dividing the target file into a plurality of divided files when a file size of the target file to be uploaded to the online storage exceeds a maximum size per one file permitted in the online storage; manages identification information related to the plurality of divided files by associating the identification information with the target file; and restores the target file by combining the plurality of divided files after having downloaded the plurality of divided files from the online storage based on the managed identification information.

Abstract: Provided are a computer program product, system, and method for identifying modified chunks in a data set for storage. Information is maintained on a data set of variable length chunks, including a digest of each chunk and information to locate the chunk in the data set. Modifications are received to at least one of the chunks in the data set. A determination is made of at least one range of least one of the chunks including data affected by the modifications, wherein each range identifies one chunk or sequential chunks having data affected by the modifications. The at least one chunk in each range is processed to determine at least one new chunk in each range, and for each determined new chunk, a digest of the new chunk. A determination is made as to whether at least one chunk outside of the at least one range has changed. For each determined at least one chunk outside of the at least one range that has changed, a determination is made of at least one new chunk and a new digest of the at least one new chunk.

Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for providing storage services to Virtual Machines (VMs) and the Hypervisor Platforms that host them. NAS referrals are used to control selection of NAS proxy servers that are optimized for the support of VMs and the Hypervisor Platforms accessing directories that are exclusively used in conjunction of a single VM. Referrals are dynamically controlled in a manner specific to the target environment to provide an optimal combination of local and network storage in support of VMs. A method of using named attributes allows referrals to subsets of a directory. The overhead of using a NAS proxy is tailored to the smallest set of accesses required to gain beneficial result from the use of local storage, and using direct access to shared network storage when local storage is not allocated. Most of the new suggested techniques are transparent to the existing NAS clients; some techniques may require modification of the NAS client software.

Abstract: An interworking system among a number of distributed virtual worlds and a method for the same. The virtual world object includes an object having a URL address and a universal content ID (UCI), and an object managed via a DB without the above-mentioned URL address or UCI. As the use of a distributed object ID that uniquely and universally identifies various objects with the same format enables interworking and sharing among a number of virtual worlds, the open virtual world can be implemented easily and efficiently. That is, various pieces of object information can be shared among different kinds of distributed virtual worlds in the open virtual world. The open virtual world also provides an application service via interworking, such as the free movement of an avatar from one world to another virtual world, and the exchange of information between avatars that belong to different virtual worlds.

Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for applying a group of instructions to metadata in the context of an on-demand database service. These mechanisms and methods for applying a group of instructions to metadata can enable embodiments that ensure that “all or none” of the operations corresponding to the grouped instructions are performed. The ability of embodiments to provide such feature can prevent a scenario where only a portion of a desired effect is accomplished which, in turn, may complicate any effort to undo the same.

Abstract: A method begins by a dispersed storage (DS) processing module receiving a request for a hypertext markup language (HTML) file, wherein the HTML file is encoded using a dispersed storage (DS) error coding function to produce a plurality of sets of encoded data slices, wherein the plurality of sets of encoded data slices is stored in a dispersed storage network (DSN) memory, and wherein the request includes a universal record locator (URL) associated with the HTML file. Abstract: Methods and systems for reading from and writing to a distributed, asynchronous and fault-tolerant storage system. The storage system includes storage nodes communicating with clients. The method includes a first client writing an object to the storage system and a second client reading the object from the storage system. For the first client, previous transient metadata relating to a previously written version of the object is retrieved and a new version of the object together with new transient metadata is stored. For the second client, a set of transient metadata from a third set of nodes amongst storage nodes is retrieved, a specific version of the object as stored on the storage system is determined, and a specific version of the corresponding object from a fourth set of nodes amongst storage nodes is retrieved. Two sets of nodes amongst all sets have at least one node in common.

Abstract: A technique for reducing reader overhead when referencing a shared data element while facilitating realtime-safe detection of a grace period for deferring destruction of the shared data element. The grace period is determined by a condition in which all readers that are capable of referencing the shared data element have reached a quiescent state subsequent to a request for a quiescent state. Common case local quiescent state tracking may be performed using only local per-reader state information for all readers that have not blocked while in a read-side critical section in which the data element is referenced. Uncommon case non-local quiescent state tracking may be performed using non-local multi-reader state information for all readers that have blocked while in their read-side critical section. The common case local quiescent state tracking requires less processing overhead than the uncommon case non-local quiescent state tracking.

Abstract: A method for managing treatment of a particular health condition afflicting a patient through the use of a PDA which includes a health management program stored in the PDA that prompts a user for entry of health condition data, including patient physiological data, subjective patient health condition data, and medication delivery data, compiles the health condition data into an accumulated data summary, and transmits the data summary from the PDA to a second processing unit through a communication port. A drop-down list related to subjective symptoms is provided, which includes stress and depression. A touch screen is provided for a graphical user interface. The health management program also provides prompts for the entry of diet data, and further displays drop-down lists related to daily activities and alerts for medication delivery.

Abstract: Systems and methods that create a duplicate database instance on which database testing may be performed. The techniques for creating a test database instance enable database testing to proceed without impacting other organization's access to their data in the database or corrupting an organization's data. The ability to allow one organization (“org”) to test their portion of a database without interrupting other organizations from using their portions of the database enables a database system to support more than one organization as tenants.

Abstract: Each data file of a distributed file system is identified by a corresponding globally-unique object identifier that is independent of any attribute of the data file. A node in the distributed file system has a file system that includes a plurality of directory entries, where each directory entry has a file name field, an attributes field, and an object identifier field configured for specifying a globally-unique object identifier. The globally-unique object identifier is universally reachable by any node of the distributed file system and uniquely identifies the data file, enabling the data file to be universally identifiable by any node based on the corresponding object identifier. The data file can be stored independently of a device file system based on providing a resolution between the data file name and its object identifier, followed by a resolution between the object identifier and a selected location for the data file.

Abstract: A system and method for distributing and accessing files in a distributed storage system uses an ordered list of the storage nodes in the system to determine the storage node on which a file is stored. The distributed storage system includes a cluster of storage nodes and may also include one or more client nodes that participate in the system as storage resources. Each node (client and storage) stores an ordered list of the storage nodes in the system, allowing any of the nodes to access the file. The list is updated whenever a new storage node is added to the system, an existing storage node is removed from the system, or a new storage node is swapped with an existing storage node. Each one of the nodes may independently compute a new mapping of files to the storage nodes when the ordered list is changed.

Abstract: An emergency and disaster preparedness system is hosted on a computer system with a secure network interface using a terminal for user interface to the system communicates through the network interface. A security management module for user authentication connects an authenticated user into the system. A communications module provides and sets active alerts for all users. An administrative console provides management of system functions. A learning management system operable from the system incorporates a plurality of function specific databases for user information on the building structure, content and environs. A portable emergency response tool (ERT) operable independently or through the network interface is an integral portion of the system. The ERT has a portion of the plurality of function specific databases integrally stored thereon and functions specifically for use by first responders separate from or communicating with the overall system.

Abstract: A method and system for providing up-to-date monitoring results in a virtual machine environment are described. In one embodiment, a host controller receives a new query pertaining to at least one object in a virtual machine system from a client, and determines whether the new query is similar to any queries previously received from other clients. If the new query is similar to any of the previously received queries, the host controller provides data pertaining to a result of a last execution of the similar query to the client. If the new query is not similar to any of the previously received queries, the host controller executes the new query and provides a result of an execution of the new query to the client.

Abstract: A method and system for relating data objects according to a numerical cognitive association based on user behavior in accessing and/or retrieving the data objects. The resulting associations allow organizing the data objects in non-linear cognitive mappings which can be graphically rendered as cognitive maps. A method for merging multiple cognitive maps into a single cognitive map when cognitive associations exceed a predetermined threshold is provided; and a method for splitting a single cognitive map into multiple cognitive maps when cognitive associations fall below a predetermined threshold is also provided.

In the extract operation, a computing system periodically performs an extraction operation on the data sources, perhaps as defined by metadata. The transformation operation is performed on at least some the extracted data, and is periodically performed, perhaps also in a manner that is defined by metadata. When performing each iteration of the transformation operation, the computing system performs a transformation operation on valid data, marks other data as suspect (due to a dependency on data that is not present), and completes transformation on yet other data that had previously been marked as suspect or perhaps reaffirms its suspect status if the needed data is still not available.

Abstract: In order to continually receive messages in a dual personal computer system (PC) and personal digital assistant system (PDA) computer architecture, the PC system is deactivated to conserve battery power while the PDA continues to receive messages. As PDA memory is filled with messages, messages that are synchronized and archived with the PC system are 5 deleted and space is freed for incoming messages. When new and non-synchronized messages completely fill the PDA memory array, the PC system is reactivated or the user is informed.

Abstract: A method of creating a distributed application in a distributed component runtime is disclosed. An application schema including distributed modules is declaratively defined. Each module hosts a component having a corresponding logical address. Mapping the corresponding logical addresses to physical addresses at runtime virtualizes interactions between the components.

Abstract: A system and method for hosting entity-specific photo-sharing websites for entity-specific image capture devices is disclosed. The system and method provides software for the entity-specific image capture devices that causes the image capture devices to transmit entity ID information when the image capture devices transmit images over the Internet. The system and method further provide an online photosharing service capable of hosting the entity-specific photo-sharing websites for each of the entities, such that when the image capture devices connect to photo-sharing service, the photo-sharing service uses the entity ID received from the image capture devices to automatically associate the image with the photo-sharing websites of the identified entity.

Abstract: A file system is disclosed that includes an application wide name space used for accessing objects related to an application. The file system includes one or more appliances. Each of the appliances logically define a storage cluster, for instance, a cluster file system. The file system also includes a tenant that logically spans across the one or more appliances. The file system also includes one or more physical file systems arranged within each of the one or more appliances. Further, one or more bucket sets define one or more corresponding physical file systems of a corresponding appliance for the tenant. The system also includes an application wide object name space that is used for accessing objects of an application, wherein the objects are stored in the physical file systems by bucket set across the one or more appliances in association with the tenant.

Abstract: A database management system implemented in a cloud computing environment. Operational nodes are assigned as controller-nodes, compute-nodes or storage-nodes. The number of operational nodes, and their assignment as compute-nodes or storage-nodes can vary. Queries specify tables, with each such table assigned to a respective group of storage nodes. The number of operational nodes executing a given query may change by (a) changing the compute-nodegroup associated with a connection, or (b) adding or removing nodes from the compute-nodegroup; and/or distributing data from the tables among the nodes in a storage nodegroup.

Abstract: Data processing architecture where submitters can write data and/or metadata changes to a destination through an asynchronous interface. The architecture includes a ticketing system that issues a ticket (a unique identifier) to the submitter in response to receiving a changelist from the submitter. When the changes are successfully completed at the destination, the cached destination data can be re-downloaded to the submitter, and the changes cached in the submitter, discarded. Absent this capability, a user has to manually manage the cached changes and cached data. The architecture can be distributed in that multiple submitters can submit changelists. The destination provides data integrity by managing submissions to assist in ensuring data integrity across multiple submissions. Automatic changelist cleanup is provided on the submitter so that changelists do not impact performance, memory, and storage.

The constraint-based registry server is coupled to the plurality of devices for publishing or registering spots, managing places and authenticating membership and places. The constraint-based registry server includes a data store for constraint metadata, an authentication module, a spot manager module, a place manager module and a query response module. The devices are adapted to collect field values, create spots, access places, and interact and share information with other spots. In one embodiment, the devices include a constraint collection module, a spot creation module, a query module, a challenge creation module, a presentation module, a challenge response module, a spot action module and a spot communication module.

Abstract: Systems, methods and computer readable media for media for continuous content sharing between systems through intelligent resolution of federated hierarchical graphs are described. A Multi-Topology Middleman (MTM) is used between the source and target systems to handle the content sharing. The MTM builds on traditional import/export infrastructure; it tracks the import/export of individual objects between systems. When a conflict is found between systems, the MTM learns the conflict resolution and stores the conflict resolution as a rule for the conflicting object, and applies the rule for subsequent import/export process on that object. The MTM also tracks the mapping of objects between the source and target systems and updates the target object in accordance with a change in the source object. The MTM is also capable of undoing the import process.

Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for creating, exporting, viewing and testing, and importing custom applications in a multitenant database environment. These mechanisms and methods can enable embodiments to provide a vehicle for sharing applications across organizational boundaries. The ability to share applications across organizational boundaries can enable tenants in a multi-tenant database system, for example, to easily and efficiently import and export, and thus share, applications with other tenants in the multi-tenant environment.

Abstract: Embodiments of the inventive concept can extract digital document information related with a specific individual to achieve a work load reduction associated with evidentiary material preparation for litigation. A specific individual is selected from at least one individual included in user information. Only digital document information which was accessed by the specific individual is extracted based on access history information regarding the selected specific individual. Additional information indicating whether or not document files in the extracted digital document information are each related with the litigation is set, and a document file related with the litigation is outputted based on the additional information.

Abstract: A proxy server for a data grid receives an object and a client request to store the object in a database using a first database protocol, wherein the request and the object have a first format that complies with the first database protocol. The first proxy server translates at least one of the object or the request into a second format that complies with a second protocol used by the data grid. A node of the data grid then processes the request to store the object on the data grid.

Abstract: In order to assure security of classified information, in present invention, before data take-out, third and fourth distributed data are created from first and second distributed data, the first and the second distributed data are saved in a server, and the third and the fourth distributed data are used in take-out.

These same “tagged” words are broadcast over various delivery networks including but not limited to live feeds from SMS, MMS, News Feeds within Community Web Sites, Video Sharing Web Sites, Widget applications any other forms of electronic communication that are dropped in real time to identified users and friends of users.

Abstract: Media files are drop box-synchronized to limit the amount of new functionality to which a user must grow accustomed in order to synchronize the content of a media player with a remote server within a cloud computing network. Thusly, users are not required to change the way they use their media player(s), but rather are required to use the familiar drag and drop functionality of their native media player. The present invention contemplates synchronizing host and nodal processing units via a server within native media player formats for quick access for the purpose of media playback, media modification, etc. This is achieved through the creation of a media file play list folder that acts as a drop box into which the user drops the desired play list to synchronize with the server. Certain methodology enhances and supports the synchronization process, which methodology incorporates the use of signature waveform metrics.

Abstract: A computer based system and method for the creation and access of dynamic course content and associated media products is disclosed. The present invention utilizes dynamic current content sources such as news, web sources, blogs, podcasts, user generated content, and other sources to create media products such as slides, videos, audio and the like. The media products of the present invention are keyed to the static framework of the textbook or textbooks, and are searchable by textbook structure, media structure, key terms, date range, and the like.
