Abstract: The “API Usage Tool” (AUT) comprises an Interactive Developer Environment Plug-in (IDEP) and a Web Service Component (WSC). The IDEP opens the source code file containing API method calls, identifies the API method calls in the source code, and saves the identified API method calls to an API usage log. The WSC searches API usage data sheets for usage, best practices and known bugs for each identified API method call. The WSC generates an API usage compilation based on the identified API method calls. The IDEP compares the API usage compilation to the dynamic data in the usage log, looking for conflicts between the compiled usage and the actual usage in the source code. The IDEP marks any API method calls in the source code that do not comport with the compiled usage guidelines.

Abstract: A system and method for state-based execution and recovery in a payment system is presented. A payment system uses a state machine to track completed sub-tasks using a state progress identifier and completion state data. When a failure occurs, stored completion state data and the state progress identifier indicate the last successfully completed sub-task. As such, when the payment system resumes payment operation execution after a failure, the state machine retrieves the stored completion state data and state progress identifier, and resumes execution based upon the retrieved information. As a result, the payment system continues payment operation execution at a point as to not duplicate the payment operation's previously completed sub-tasks.

  • Patent number: 7702780
Abstract: For monitoring a data processing system, a sequence of critical conditions with increasing severity indexes is defined. Each critical condition is detected when a corresponding state parameter exceeds a threshold value with a predefined persistence over time. The persistence may be specified by a minimum number of repeated occurrences of this event, with a maximum number of consecutive non-occurrences that are allowed between them. Whenever critical conditions are detected, the monitoring application retrieves the severity index of the last detected critical condition with the highest severity index, and calculates an incremental index indicative of how closely the state parameter is approaching the next critical condition. An indicator of the health of the system may be generated by subtracting the severity index of the last critical condition plus the incremental index from an optimal value.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for marking Web pages for later revisiting the Web pages are provided. With the method and apparatus, data structures are provided in the Web site server for tracking information regarding the Web pages associated with the Web sites, users that have visited the Web site, what pages were visited by the users, and portions of the web pages that were marked by the users. This information is maintained by the Web site server so that, upon subsequent visits to the Web site server, the marked portions of the Web pages visited by the user may be identified for special processing by the Web browser of the client device being used to access the Web site. Such special processing may include conspicuously identifying the marked portions in a display of the Web browser, providing the ability to jump to marked portions of the Web pages, displaying only the marked portions of the Web pages, and the like.

Abstract: Techniques for performing memory management to mitigate memory errors. In accordance with the principles described herein, a memory management module may be implemented that acts in different modes of operation for each of one or more software modules that are instances of applications. In one mode of operation, memory operations may be performed in accordance with one or more mitigation actions, and in another mode of operation, the memory management module performs memory operations as requested, without performing mitigation actions. A memory management module may maintain a record in a data store associated with the memory management module that may be used to determine whether to enable the mitigations. In some implementations, records maintained by each of a plurality of computing devices may be aggregated at a central server and this aggregated information may be used to adjust the entries on each of the computing devices.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method, system, and computer program product for automatically configuring information systems to support mission objectives. A Mission SoulPad is connected to an information system via a communication bus, such as a USB bus connection. The Mission SoulPad may autonomously detect and configure components of the information system (e.g., displays, sensors, emitters, transceivers) to support the defined objectives of the Mission SoulPad. The Mission SoulPad may also identify malfunctioning components of the information system needing repair or replacement. Typical operations of malfunctioning components may be dynamically re-routed to functional components. Entire sensor and information display suites may be transitioned simply by moving the Mission SoulPad between available information systems. This ensures that mission critical information is consistently available regardless of the type of system the Mission SoulPad is connected to.

Abstract: Information handling system errors are presented at a display with the information handling system graphics subsystem inoperative by communicating an identified error to the display through an auxiliary channel and generating a presentation of the error information with a microcontroller of the display. For example, errors determined by BIOS firmware running on a chipset are communicated through a DDC or I2C channel from the chipset to the display so that textual error messages are generated at the display without the use of the information handling system's graphic processor to generate an error message image.

  • Patent number: 7681089
Abstract: A redundant storage controller system that robustly provides failure analysis information (FAI) to an operator of the system is disclosed. The system includes first and second storage controllers in communication with one another, such as via a PCI-Express link. When one of the controllers fails, the FAI is transferred from the failed controller to the surviving controller over the link. The operator issues a command to the surviving storage controller, which responsively provides the FAI. In one embodiment, the failed storage controller writes the FAI to the second storage controller. In one embodiment, each storage controller periodically writes the FAI before there is a failure. In one embodiment, the second storage controller reads the FAI from the failed storage controller. The FAI may include boot logs, crash logs, debug logs, and event logs. The FAI may also be written to a disk drive connected to the controllers.
