Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a method of collecting and reporting exceptions associated with information technology services includes receiving exceptions associated with a service, including receiving exceptions associated with an infrastructure and exceptions associated with an application; formatting the exceptions into an exceptions list; correlating at least one of the exceptions associated with the infrastructure and at least one of the exceptions associated with the application to identify a service error condition; and storing the exceptions list and an identifier of the service error condition for presentation to a client associated with the service.

Abstract: A computer system includes server computers, application program storage modules, a communication network, client computers, a database storage module, and a test data presentation module. The database storage module stores event data. The event data logs events that occur in the server computers during performance test runs. The test runs are performed in connection with a plurality of projects. The projects are defined for performance testing the application programs. The test data presentation module generates a test data screen display for rendering by one of the client computers. The test data screen display includes a data table. The data table presents event data relating to events that occurred during test runs for two or more of the projects.

Abstract: A method and system for performing one or more preventative maintenance functions for a data-processing apparatus. One or more notifications regarding daily maintenance functions can be generated in the form of a reminder when the data-processing apparatus begins operation. A history of the maintenance functions performed can be stored in a memory through remote data pushes. An email alert can be generated and transmitted to a user regarding incomplete maintenance functions in order to track the maintenance activities. The data-processing apparatus can be monitored in a consolidated manner and the occurrence of fault information stored and then rapidly retrieved to provide notifications indicative of such maintenance data.

Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer-usable medium for the graphical presentation of the contextual relationship between a reported exception and its related resources and/or contributing factors. An exception view is presented to display an abnormally operating resource and the operational state of its related resources and/or contributing factors. Contextually related processes and resources are graphically depicted in one or more hierarchy trees, topologically-oriented views, or other depictions, with the operational health or condition of each resource indicated. Fault determination and resolution of the reported exception and its related processes and resources can then be facilitated.

Abstract: A storage apparatus in which at least a first storage medium and a second storage medium are installable and only the first storage medium is initially installed, the storage apparatus including a redundancy unit for executing a redundancy operation in which the same data is stored in both of the installed first storage medium and the second storage medium, and a controller for controlling the redundancy unit so that the redundancy unit can execute a restricted operation in which data is stored only in the first storage medium, until the second storage medium has been installed. The controller controls the redundancy unit so that the redundancy unit can return from the restricted operation to the redundancy operation after the second storage medium has been installed.

Abstract: A service call to a backend system is initiated by a user interface in a service-oriented architecture. Thereafter, a service answer is received from the backend system encapsulating a backend error object. The backend error object is mapped to a front end error object. A front end error message can later be presented to a user in the user interface that is derived from the front end error object. Abstract: A system and method for customizing a SCSI error response received from a SCSI target in a storage network environment is disclosed. In a method for customizing a SCSI error response received from a SCSI target in a storage network environment, a SCSI command is received from a SCSI initiator by a SCSI to ATA bridge. The received SCSI command is translated to provide an ATA command. The ATA command is then sent to an ATA drive. The ATA command is executed by the ATA drive. During execution, if an error occurs, an ATA error response is sent by the ATA drive to the SCSI to ATA bridge. The received ATA error response is translated to a SCSI error response. The SCSI to ATA bridge then obtains a customized SCSI error response using an error look-up table. Further the customized SCSI error response is sent to the SCSI initiator.

Abstract: A fault analysis result generating system includes an extracting unit, a converting unit, a determining unit, and a result generating unit. The system extracts fault analysis files, converts the fault analysis files to a first predetermined file format which is easy to be processed, converts the fault analysis files with the first predetermined file format to a second predetermined file format, and then transfers the fault analysis files with the second predetermined file format to a learning sharing module.

Abstract: In accordance with embodiments, there are provided mechanisms and methods for testing an aspect of a user interface determined from a database dedicated to the testing. These mechanisms and methods for testing an aspect of a user interface determined from a database dedicated to the testing can provide a testing dedicated database of aspects of a user interface. The ability to provide a testing dedicated database of aspects of a user interface can enable testing of the user interface without the limitations otherwise associated with a database of aspects of the user interface that is utilized when publishing the database.

Abstract: The network fault manager described herein may generate an alarm data table having various columns and rows respectively corresponding to different alarm data fields and different alarms. The alarm data table may be associated with a primary key that includes a subset of the different data fields in the multiple columns to uniquely represent the different alarms in the multiple rows. In response to removing one or more of the different alarm data fields in the subset from the primary key, the primary key may non-uniquely represent the different alarms in a plurality of the multiple rows. Thus, the alarm data table may be collapsed to combine the different alarms non-uniquely represented in the plurality of the multiple rows into one combined row uniquely representing the different alarms, whereby the collapsed alarm data table may replace the plurality of the multiple rows with the combined row.

Abstract: A technique for collecting and correlating locking data collects and correlates information on a plurality of programs waiting on or holding a plurality of resources in a multi-computer database system. The technique identifies a program executing on one computer of the multi-computer database system that is waiting on a resource. The technique also identifies a second program, executing on another computer, as the ultimate holder of the resource. An operator display screen displays information corresponding to the first program and the second program. The operator display screen may be switched between a multiline display format and a single line display format. The collection, identification, and display of the locking data is performed periodically, to allow the operator to discover locking problems and take a desired corrective action.

Abstract: An application programming interface (API) that leverages operating system instrumentation to provide a chain of threads and processes may alleviate some debugging complications. Specifically, the chain may start with the first thread in the process that experienced the original failure and end with the last thread upon which the first thread directly or indirectly depends. The API may aid debugging efforts by classifying all threads related or dependent upon an original failed thread into specific categories of failures, requesting further information from the originating OS concerning specific failed threads, and using that information to debug the failed application or process more thoroughly.

Abstract: A computer system and program product for managing events. Program instructions, respond to notification of an event, by determining if a problem ticket can be automatically generated for the event. If so, the program instructions make a request to generate the problem ticket. The program instructions determine if the problem ticket can be automatically generated based in whole or in part on (a) a type of the event and a customer who owns or uses a computer system in which the event occurred, (b) a type of the event, a customer who owns or uses a computer system in which the event occurred, and a severity of the event, (c) a type of the event, a customer who owns or uses a computer system in which the event occurred, and a magnitude of the event, or (d) a type of the event and whether other events of a same type occur at approximately a same time.

Abstract: Techniques for clients and servers to use the web authoring extensions, and in particular, extended error handling to allow servers to provider richer web authoring error information to clients. One technique includes sending an authoring request to a server, receiving a response message with extended error information by a client, and sending the extended error information to an application program. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: A control apparatus controls a device to which the control apparatus is connected. The control apparatus includes a storing unit and a linking unit. The storing unit stores an error message that contains information on a failed component in a storage device upon receiving the error message from the device. The linking unit stores the error message and information on a replacement component, which has been installed in the device in place of the failed component, in the storage device in association with each other upon receiving the information on the replacement component.

Abstract: A method and system of indexing into trace data based on entries in a log buffer. At least some of the illustrative embodiments are methods comprising executing a traced program on a target device. The traced program writes entries to a log buffer within the target device, and the traced program also contemporaneously writes an index value for each entry to a register. The index value written to the register becomes part of trace data regarding the traced program and correlates each entry to a respective portion of the trace data. Using the information one may either or both: display on a display device a portion of the trace data (the portion selected based on selecting an entry from the log buffer); or display on the display a portion of the log buffer (the portion selected based on selecting an entry from the trace data).

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for connecting a host Enterprise System Connection Architecture (ESCON) Input/Output (I/O) interface to a cache of a data storage system. The apparatus includes (a) a set of at least 4 pipelines, each pipeline being coupled on a first end to the host ESCON I/O interface and being coupled on a second end to the cache, (b) a plurality of line processors, each line processor controlling one or more of the pipelines of the set of pipelines, and (c) in each pipeline, a protocol engine, the protocol engine configured to distinguish user data from frame header data and separate the user data from the frame header data for transport over the pipeline.

Abstract: A system and method for logging and storing failure analysis information on disk drive so that the information is readily and reliably available to vendor customer service and other interested parties is provided. The information, in an illustrative embodiment, is stored on a nonvolatile (flash) random access memory (RAM), found generally in most types of disk drives for storage of updateable disk drive firmware. A known location of limited size is defined in the flash RAM, to form a scratchpad. This scratchpad is a blank area of known addresses, formed during the original firmware download onto the memory, and which is itself free of firmware code. This scratchpad is sufficient in size to write a series of failure codes in a non-erasable list as failures/errors (and user/administrator attempts to unfail the disk) are logged.

Abstract: A data processing system employing identify indicators associated with various components of the system. The indicator may be activated whenever a corresponding component requires maintenance, field testing, installation, replacement, and the like. The user may specify global and local conditions under which an activated identify indicator is reset. After the indicator is activated, the system monitors for the satisfaction of one of the conditions. When one of the conditions is satisfied, the system deactivates the indicator automatically. The global conditions apply across logical partitions in a logically partitioned system thereby reducing the occurrence of stale identify indicators on all partitions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing intelligent error messaging is disclosed wherein a user of a mobile communications device is provided with descriptive error messaging information to assist the user in overcoming errors associated with the processing of electronic messages and data.

Abstract: An asynchronous data validation mechanism integrated into a user interface by a binding engine is provided. Application object properties are bound to user interface data fields. The asynchronous validation mechanism communicates with a validator and with the object properties. Data input to a single field can be flagged with multiple validation errors. Multiple validation errors can also be associated to the object overall rather than being associated with particular properties of the object. Inconsistency between inputs to different data fields can result in a cross-property validation error. A single flag indicates whether the business object has any validation errors. Different validation errors may have different visualization types, and the business object may have validation errors of different data types, rather than being limited to strings.

Abstract: In a digital video system, high availability distribution is provided using spare modules such as an integrated receiver decoder, multimedia transcoder and streaming module in support of the primary modules. The primary modules multicast status messages which are monitored by the spare modules. When failure of a primary module is detected, the spare module takes over the role of the failed module, for example by joining the same multicast groups as the failed module and taking over processing of the streams of the failed module. Multiple redundancy schemes are described.

Abstract: A stream monitor can request a streaming media server to send stream records associated with streams currently being served. The stream monitor uses the stream records to test streams being served by the streaming media server. The stream monitor can concurrently test multiple streams for connection errors, silence errors, metadata errors, and other errors.

Abstract: A reception unit receives, in a case where an error has occurred in an image forming apparatus during execution of a designated job, error information indicating that the error has occurred. An acquisition unit acquires information indicating that it is designated to skip the error and to execute the job in the image forming apparatus. A determination unit determines, in a case where the acquisition unit acquires the information, whether or not to continue to display the error information depending on a type of the error. A control unit continues, in a case where the determination unit determines that the error information is continued to be displayed, to display the error information, and ceases, in a case where the determination unit determines that the error information is not continued to be displayed, to display the error information.

Abstract: An event log system for capturing event information associated with error events occurring within a computer system. The event log system includes an event log displaying error messages associated with the error events captured within the computer system, and displaying inline error resolution information within each error message corresponding to each respective error event. User community information such as links to wiki topics and forum threads are contextually provided for and inline with individual error log entries. Also, action buttons to help the user resolve errors and problems are also contextually provided, as are surfaced links to domain experts within the user community, such as online chat buttons to them.

Abstract: A network appliance for monitoring, diagnosing and documenting problems among a plurality of devices and processes (objects) coupled to a computer network utilizes periodic polling and collection of object-generated trap data to monitor the status of objects on the computer network. The status of a multitude of objects is maintained in memory utilizing virtual state machines which contain a small amount of persistent data but which are modeled after one of a plurality of finite state machines. The memory further maintains dependency data related to each object which identifies parent/child relationships with other objects at the same or different layers of the OSI network protocol model. A decision engine verifies through on-demand polling that a device is down. A root cause analysis module utilizes status and dependency data to locate the highest object in the parent/child relationship tree that is affected to determine the root cause of a problem.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a display control unit, a generation unit, and a notification unit. The display control unit displays a device for executing a particular function on a display device. The displayed device includes separate webpages and the separate webpages include a webpage for setting to make the particular function usable. In response to a user selecting the device displayed on the display device, the generation unit generates a uniform resource locator (URL). The generated URL represents the webpage for setting to make the particular function usable. The notification unit notifies the URL generated by the generation unit to a web browser included in the information processing apparatus.

Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for installing software at a mobile electronic device are provided, the mobile electronic device enabled for communication with a computing device. A query for available software for installation on the mobile electronic device receiving is received from the computing device, the query directed to a proxy server rather than a public server enabled as a gateway for software downloads. A list of the available software is generated. The list is modified to produce a modified list of approved software. The modified list is transmitted to the computing device such that the approved software can be selected for installation on the mobile electronic device.

Abstract: System and method for error handling in a graphical program. An error handling structure is displayed in a graphical program. The error handling structure includes a first frame configured to contain graphical program code for which error handling is to be provided. At least a portion of the graphical program is included in the first frame in response to user input specifying the at least a portion of the graphical program. During execution of the graphical program, the error handling structure aborts execution of the at least a portion of the graphical program in the first frame in response to detection of an unhandled error in the at least a portion of the graphical program in the first frame and continues execution of the graphical program.

Abstract: Selectively presenting source code defect information within a source code editor. In the source code editor, a defect tracking identifier can be presented. The defect tracking identifier can be associated with a defect record contained in a defect tracking system. When a user selects the defect tracking identifier, defect information associated with the defect can be automatically retrieved from the defect tracking system. The defect information can be presented in the source code editor.

Abstract: Methods and systems that implement enhanced user interactions with a grid are described. A method may include generating a grid of cells arranged in a number of rows and columns. Each row may correspond to a data record of a database. The grid may be displayed to a user while identifying one or more cells as editable cells. Input data may be received from the user for each of the editable cells. The input data may be validated using predefined criteria to identify incorrect input data and errors associated with the incorrect input data may be displayed to the user. Additional methods and systems are disclosed.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for coordinating error reporting among a plurality of managed runtimes that are concurrently executing in the same process. In accordance with various embodiments, an error reporting manager that executes concurrently in the same process as the managed runtimes coordinates error reporting among the managed runtimes in a manner that does not require the managed runtimes to be aware of each other or to communicate directly with each other.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for automated data determination propagation. A data package source collects data and compiles the data into data packages. A local data package prioritization module determines a prioritized order of the data packages based on a local priority matrix. The local data package prioritization module sends the data packages in the prioritized order over a temporary data connection to a central data package prioritization module. The local data package prioritization module updates the local priority matrix over the temporary data connection based on a central priority matrix. The central data package prioritization module receives the data packages and makes one or more updates to the central priority matrix based on the data packages.

Abstract: A visual interface providing method for efficiently providing information about errors occurring in a multi-thread operation state. Error log information about at least one error generated during multi-thread processing of program code may be generated. The error log information may be converted into a markup language file according to a predetermined document type definition that specifies at least one information item used for a visual interface with respect to an error. The visual interface may be provided by rendering the markup language file, wherein the visual interface includes thread information including at least one of general information about at least one thread in which an error has occurred and error information about the error, and time information about a time period during which the at least one thread is executed.

Abstract: A feedback method and a processing system for policy installation failures are applied in communication technical field, which is favorable for an Access Resource Admission Control Function (A-RACF) to accurately grasp the detailed information of policy installation failure enforced by the Resource Control Enforcement Function (RCEF), therefore the efficiency of downwardly sending the policies for installation next time is improved. The method includes: when the installation of the policies downwardly sent from the A-RACF to the RCEF is failed, the RCEF generates a feedback message to be sent to the A-RACF, wherein the feedback message includes error reasons of the policy installation failures.

Abstract: A system for providing a managed virtual point to point communication service having a verified directory and providing secure transmission and controlled delivery of electronic document images may include a memory, an interface, and a processor. The memory may store a verified directory of users. The interface may communicate with devices of sending and receiving users in the verified directory. The processor may be operative to receive a request to deliver an electronic document image from a sending user to a receiving user. The processor may provide secure access to the electronic document image to the receiving user. The processor may provide a delivery confirmation to the sending device of the sending user upon determining that the electronic document image was securely accessed by the receiving user. The delivery confirmation may indicate that the electronic document image was securely transmitted to the receiving user.

Abstract: A diagnostic information converter reads an existing static diagnostic procedure in the form of a tree graph and generates a diagnostic Failure Modes and Effects Analysis that can be used in the generation of a dynamic diagnostic test plan. The converter identifies the end nodes of the graph and associates a specific failure mode with each of the end nodes. In addition, the converter traces a unique path from each end node along successive branches through one or more intermediate nodes to the root node, and from each of the paths derives an initial failure mode test including the test steps corresponding to the root node, the intermediate nodes and the end node. The converter further identifies and annotates precondition nodes that correspond to a vehicle state or condition, rather than to an actual diagnostic test step and allows a user to edit the initial failure mode tests.

A computer displays a message file that comprises disparately syntaxed components. Abstract: Some embodiments of a system and a method to provide comprehensive application programming interfaces to a logical volume manager have been presented. For instance, a processing device running on a server may provide a library having a set of application programming interfaces to interface an application and a logical volume manager (LVM). In response to an error occurring while running the application in operation with the LVM, the processing device may return an error string in a natural language, a piece of programming code associated with the error, and an error code associated with the error using one or more of the set of application programming interfaces.

Abstract: This disclosure describes, generally, methods and systems for implementing in-lane exception handling. The method includes displaying, on a user terminal display device, a first user interface (UI) configured to display application data in organized rows and columns, receiving, by a data management system, updates and/or edits to the application data, and calculating, by the data management system, the updated and/or edited application data. The method further includes analyzing, by the data management system, the updates and/or edits to determine one or more of associated errors, warnings, and exceptions, and displaying, within the first UI, a graphical representation for each of the errors, warnings, and exceptions in the row and/or column of the application data where the error, warning, or exception has occurred.

Abstract: An object of the present invention is to enable a user to grasp the operation of the autonomous system for executing a countermeasure corresponding to a state of a system to be managed and to enable the user to check if a problem has been solved after the countermeasure taken against the problem of the system to be managed is performed by the user or by the autonomous system when the countermeasure performed by the autonomous system has failed or when the user wants to confirm the solution by the countermeasure performed by the autonomous system. An autonomous collaborative work operation control section 6 indistinctively records the content of a countermeasure corresponding to a manual operation and the content of a countermeasure taken not by the manual operation but by an autonomous operation in an autonomous collaborative work log storage section 5.

Abstract: A method for fault handling of a data processing unit is disclosed. The method includes automatic acquisition of input information and/or output information of a user at at least one user interface of the data processing unit; automatic detection of a fault message that indicates a fault of the data processing unit; transmission of the acquired fault message together with the input information and/or the output information to a fault handling center; and evaluation of the transmitted fault message in the fault handling center.

Abstract: A system and method for computer error management initially detects an error and creates an error report. The error report is then sent to a server where it is hosted on the World Wide Web. The server additionally notifies designated users of the error and can allow the users to correct the error.
