Abstract: Document links may be efficiently managed by providing automated techniques for organizing them. In particular implementations, a system and process for automated management of document links may include the ability to determine that a link is to be established for a document and identify at least one descriptor for the document. The system and process may also include the ability to correlate the identified document descriptor(s) with at least one document descriptors in a pre-existing taxonomy of document descriptors and associate the correlated taxonomy document descriptor(s) with a link for the document.

Abstract: An electronic book selection and delivery system distributes text to subscribers. The system includes the ability to use electronic links as well as a system for creating electronic links between specific electronic books and other electronic files. The links may be used or accessed by a menu system or by operation of a cursor and a select button. The other electronic files could be portions of a specific electronic book, such as a Table of Contents. The other electronic files could also exist external to a specific electronic book. For example, definitions provided in an electronic English-language dictionary could be linked to terms contained in an electronic book. The electronic links may be created by the book publisher or may be subscriber-defined. The links may use standard programming language such as hypertext markup language (HTML). The links may be established through use of a relational database.

Abstract: A system and method for sorting and organizing file locations when saving website bookmarks, and downloading, uploading and saving files from or to a website. The system automatically generates and displays a file path for each bookmark or file based on selectable options, including domain, file type, user configurable options, user behavior or defaults. The system provides a bookmark mechanism by creating and presenting a folder based on these options and defaults, and using that folder as the default “save to” folder for files from that domain or containing a keyword in the title or body of the file. The system is also configurable to provide a user selected folder as the default “save to” location when options configured by the user are met. The system further provides a file storage mechanism by creating and presenting a “save to” folder for each file being saved based on the options and defaults.

Abstract: A system for indexing a document including: receiving a document to be processed for inclusion in an index of documents; locating a set of documents that include hyperlinks to the document; retrieving anchortext associated with each hyperlink; parsing the anchortext into one or more tokens. Then for each token the following acts are performed: determining a weight for the token, determining whether the weight assigned to the token exceeds a threshold token weight; and indexing the document under the token, if the token weight assigned to the token exceeds the threshold token weight.

Abstract: A method of presenting a digital work includes displaying a portion of the digital work on a display screen under a set of display conditions, and providing one or more invariant location reference identifiers corresponding to the portion of the digital work on the display screen. The invariant location reference identifiers are separate from the digital work, and each invariant location reference identifier is provided along with the corresponding portion of the digital work, regardless of the display conditions under which the portion of the digital work is displayed.

Abstract: A system for social bookmarking of a resource provided through a Web application that doesn't follow the representational state transfer architectural style (REST). When processing a request for a social bookmarking operation, the system searches for a URL and potentially other resource information within the document object model of a currently loaded Web page. If such resource information is found, then it is used to process the requested social bookmarking operation. Otherwise, if such resource information is not found in the document object model, then the system uses the URL stored in the location bar of the Web browser to process the requested social bookmarking operation. The system includes semantic information in the DOM of a Web page that is used to identify subsets of content within the Web page that can be socially bookmarked. The semantic information of the disclosed system is stored in what are generally referred to as “microformatting”.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for including collection items in the ranked set of search results that are returned to a user in response to a search query. Collection scoring techniques are also provided for generating relevance scores for collection items in a different manner than relevance scores are generated for base items that are not collections. The collection scoring techniques may be applied to non-base collection items, base collection items, or both. Items that match the search query, including base items and collection items, are ranked in a unified ranking based on their respective relevance scores, thereby allowing searches to readily determine the relevance ranking of matching collection items relative to matching base items.

Abstract: A graph representation of a web site is generated by identifying blocks of links on web pages. Each block of links is represented by a node in the graph representation and connections between the nodes provide information on the re-use of blocks between pages.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for selecting and accessing multimedia information and/or services located on one or a plurality of servers connected to a communication network simply by touching with a finger items marked on a physical document or on any other physical surface. The system includes a touch foil placed over (or under) the document for reading coordinates of selected marked items, and a user workstation for accessing the information and/or the service associated with the selected marked items. Items marked on the documents are selected by pressing the touch foil placed over (or under) the document. Once a marked item is selected, the user workstation receives from the touch foil a signal indicating the position of the selected marked item. The user workstation identifies in a hyperlink table a server and within this server the information and/or the service associated with the position of the selected marked item.

Abstract: A technique is provided for providing an aggregate tag view of a website that comprises a plurality of webpages that each has a corresponding URL. A tag is a set of one or more words that have been associated with a URL and is typically created by a user to describe content of the webpage corresponding to the URL. Initially, a request is received to display information pertaining to a website. In response to the request, a plurality of tags associated with the website is displayed. A first subset of the plurality of tags is associated with a particular URL. A second subset of the plurality of tags is associated with one or more URLs that are not the particular URL. Alternatively, or in addition to an aggregate tag view tag-related information for each URL of the website is provided, in response to the initial request.
