Abstract: Implementations of the present disclosure include methods, systems, and computer-readable storage mediums for receiving, at a computing device, a technical service description associated with a web service, receiving, from an annotation repository, one or more first annotations to one or more user interface (UI) elements associated with the technical service description, the annotation repository electronically storing annotations to UI elements, refining at least one of the one or more UI elements based on one or more edits to the one or more UI elements, extracting one or more second annotations based on the one or more edits, and providing the one or more second annotations for storage in the annotation repository.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes an input unit configured to input an annotation of at least one of an underline, a box, a character, a character string, a symbol and a symbol string to a displayed document, an annotation recognition unit configured to recognize a type of the annotation and a coverage of the annotation in the document, an intention estimation unit configured to estimate intention of a user based on the type of the annotation and information in the coverage, an action storage unit configured to store a plurality of actions, an action selection unit configured to select an action to be performed for the document from the action storage based on the intention estimated by the intention estimation unit, and an execution unit configured to execute the action selected by the action selection unit.

Abstract: In a system and method for displaying a video and an overlay or tag, an application that runs through a browser on a client is used to send a request from the client to a server over a computer network. In response to the request, at least the following is sent from the server to the client: a first uniform resource locator (URL) corresponding to a location on the network where the video is stored, a second URL corresponding to a location on the network where the overlay or tag is stored, and playlist data. The first and second URLs are associated with different servers on the computer network. The first and second URLs and the playlist data are used at the client to retrieve the video and the overlay or tag, and build a playlist. The client merges the video and the overlay into an integrated media sequence that is played to a user via the browser in accordance with the playlist, and displays the tag.

Abstract: The application concerns sharing content generated within a system for one or more application displays to be displayed on a first computing device of a first user. A second user is sent a message concerning sharing sharable content wherein the sharable content includes at least a portion of content from the one or more application displays that were generated for the first user. The message includes an access identifier and in response to the second user accepting the message, the system uses the access identifier to share with the second user said sharable content that was generated for the first user. Prior to providing the sharable content to the second user the sharable content can be filtered. Filtering can be performed according to parameters that can be provided by the first user or according to a default values.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, in which syndication spaces for a webpage are identified, each syndication space defining a location on the webpage in which one or more advertisements are displayed at a client device, and each syndication space associated with one or more attributes. Display data is generated that causes each syndication space to selectively display a visual indication of one or more of the attributes on the webpage at the client device.

Abstract: The subject disclosure relates to techniques for providing data experience(s) via disparate semantic annotations based on a respective user scenario. An annotation component can synthesize semantic information for respective data types of data set(s), associate the semantic information with the respective data types to obtain respective data annotations, and in response to receiving a query from a client, send at least a portion of the respective data annotations to the client. Further, a data aggregation component can aggregate the respective data annotations and at least a portion of the data set(s). Other embodiments relate to performing, via an application, operations utilizing a data type based on respective semantic annotations associated with the data type. Yet other embodiments relate to receiving external data annotation(s) and associating the external data annotation(s) with portion(s) of the respective data types to derive portion(s) of the respective semantic annotations.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture provide access to architectural documents in a network based on-line web based system. Servers that are accessible from the Internet maintain persistent multiple architectural documents of different media types. An online user is provided, from the servers via the Internet, a set of basic virtual design tools that have persistent properties and may be copied. The virtual design tools may also be utilized to work with the architectural documents. A workspace is also provided for viewing, accessing, and modifying the architectural documents.

Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for converting a digital number to text and for pronouncing the digital number. The system includes a filtration system for determining whether the digital number has nonnumeric symbols and for generating a filtrated number, an analyzing system for analyzing the filtrated number, a composition system configured to collect words associated with ternary units of the filtrated number, a linking system configured to link the words, and a pronouncing system for pronouncing the linked words.

Abstract: A system and methods are provided for presenting a comment associated with presentation of media. In one embodiment, a method includes outputting media for display, and detecting a comment associated with the media based on a request for comments associated with the media, the request including identification of at least one user associated with a social network. The method may further include detecting a time code associated with the comment and outputting a graphical representation of the comment with presentation of the media based on the time code.

Abstract: A page splitter may be configured to split a first page of a site into first boilerplate and first posts, and a second page of the site into second boilerplate and second posts. An aggregator may be configured to associate the first page with the second page, based on a similarity of the first boilerplate and the second boilerplate, and configured to associate at least one of the first posts and at least one of the second posts with a first post-type, and at least one of the second posts with a second post-type. A merger may be configured to merge the first boilerplate and the second boilerplate into a boilerplate template, posts of the first post-type from the first page and from the second page into a first post-type template, and posts of the second post-type from the second page into a second post-type template, and further configured to merge the boilerplate template, the first post-type template, and the second post-type template into a site template associated with the site.

Abstract: Consistent with embodiments of the invention, computer-based systems and methods for annotating documents with a special type of graphical icon—referred to herein as a tick mark—are provided. Accordingly, utilizing a document annotation tool consistent with one embodiment of the invention, a user can quickly and easily place a tick mark next to an element of a document (e.g., a word, sentence, paragraph, number, chart, graph or figure) being displayed to visually convey some information about that particular element of the document. A second user, who is viewing the same document subsequent to the first user placing the tick mark, will immediately recognize and appreciate the information conveyed by the placement of the tick mark.

Abstract: A method for distributing cached messages in a load-balanced publish/subscribe messaging network using an HTTP redirect in response to an HTTP client message request is disclosed. The redirect response including a URI at which a next message in a list of sequential messages slated for the HTTP client per the request is located, wherein the HTTP client uses the URI to automatically iterate through and receive the entire list of sequential messages.

Abstract: The embodiments of the present invention provide a method and an apparatus for file processing. The method for file processing includes: obtaining a file; parsing the file to obtain a first character contained in the file; matching the first character with a preconfigured matching character library; obtaining an annotation corresponding to the first character when the first character satisfies a predetermined condition; and displaying the first character and the annotation. With the embodiments of the present invention, automatic annotation can be provided for a particular character in a file, such that the user's reading experience can be improved.

Abstract: Briefly, one or more embodiments of a process, system, apparatus or article to edit electronic content is provided. Electronic content may be displayed in an application. A snapshot of a portion of the electronic content may be created. An edit and/or a comment may be received that provides context for the comment. A review that includes the snapshot and edit and/or comment may be published to one or more recipients. At least one of the one or more recipients may be configured to receive the review and display the review using a different application.

Abstract: A user provides an annotation, such as text or graphics, in relation to a resource available on a computer network. The annotation is automatically stored and/or retrieved without requiring separate action from the user to accomplish the storage or retrieval. An annotation interface may receive the annotation from the user. The annotation is then stored in association with the user and the network address of the resource. The user's annotation may be later retrieved and displayed to the user based on the network address of the resource. In one specific embodiment, a browser toolbar receives and displays user annotations associated with Web sites or Web pages to which the user has navigated. Preferably, the annotation interface remains available to the user throughout the time in which the resource is provided. Further controls may enable the user to make an annotation publicly available to others, and to receive annotations from others.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided which may be implemented to in various computing devices to provide a presentation service through which content from two or more applications running on one or more computing devices may be shared along with selective annotation content.

Abstract: Technologies pertaining to retrieval of contextually relevant attribute values for an automatically identified named entity in a document are described herein. Named entity recognition technologies are employed to identify named entities in the text of a document. Context corresponding to an identified named entity is analyzed to probabilistically assign a class to the named entity. Attributes that are most relevant to the class are determined, and attribute values for such attributes are retrieved. The attribute values are presented in correlation with the named entity in the document responsive to user-selection of the named entity in the document.

Abstract: Various embodiments of systems and methods for context aware annotations are described herein. A user request is received to visualize a dataset according to a user selected visualization type. A visualization of the dataset is created according to the user selected visualization type and the created visualization is displayed on the computer screen. The context information of each region of the displayed visualization is compared with the context information stored in annotations stored in the memory. Based on the comparison, a determination is made whether the context information stored in any of the annotations matches with the context information of any of the regions. The annotation is displayed on the region of the visualization, which has the same context information. In one embodiment, a list of annotations is displayed to the user. The information related to a selected annotation from the list of annotations is displayed to the user.

Abstract: A network system includes a computer and an apparatus for reading digital documents, including an apparatus display being connectable to a communication channel of the computer via a connector. The computer includes a converter to convert a document to a format displayable by the apparatus, a first watching unit to watch the communication channel for arrival of the apparatus, and a second watching unit to watch a user's activities on the computer. The apparatus includes a detector to detect a moment in time when the user starts to work with the apparatus, and a notification device configured to send a notification to the computer via the connector. The computer is configured to establish upon receipt of the notification a transfer of the converted document from the computer via the connector to the apparatus, and the apparatus is configured to show a converted document on the apparatus display.

Abstract: A method for sequenced document annotation is disclosed. The method includes linking a first annotation to a document, where the first annotation is defined by a first primary graphic and a first sequence identifier. Thereafter, a first value is assigned to the first sequence identifier, and the first primary graphic and the first sequence identifier are displayed. After incrementing the first value to a second value, a second annotation is linked to the document. The second annotation is defined by a second sequence identifier and a second primary graphic identical to the first primary graphic. The second sequence identifier is assigned an incremented second value, and the second primary graphic and the second sequence identifier are displayed.

Abstract: An image capture device in an endoscopic imaging system receives a video stream generated by an endoscopic video camera. In response to automatic recognition of a spoken utterance while the video stream is being received from the endoscopic video camera, the image capture device associates with the video stream an annotation that corresponds to the spoken utterance. The image capture device provides the video stream to a display device for display, such that the annotation can be overlaid on one or more frames of the video stream displayed on the display device.

Abstract: The invention, which may be a kind of annotations processor, detects zero or more tagsets turned on or selected at runtime. The annotations adapter reads an abstract unit from a java file, and if an annotation of the abstract unit has a tag that is among the tags of a turned on tagset, then the annotations adapter may generate an artifact showing the influence of the annotation. Such a process may continue until there are no more abstract units to process. Comments or annotations that fail to be tagged with a tag of a selected tagset may, nevertheless, be mentioned with a kind of ‘place-holder’ indicating that such comments exist.

Abstract: A method of embedding evaluations in a document is described. An identifier tag is embedded in the document in response to a first user action. The document may include a web page. The identifier tag includes a review and an identifier associated with an entity that is a subject of the review. A rating tag is embedded in the document in response to a second user action. The rating tag includes a rating value corresponding to a user-selected rating of the entity that is the subject of the review. The rating value may be selected from a set of pre-determined rating values.

Abstract: A system for speeding up rendering of and interacting with one or more web pages to accomplish some task using the internet. In a system comprising one or more client computers which can be cell phones, laptops or desktop computers coupled in any way to the internet and a template server and other web servers coupled to the internet, a microbrowser under control of a task workflow template is executed either by a client computer or the template server. The task workflow templates are custom defined workflows which define one or more web pages which need to be accessed and the data from each web page that needs to be extracted. The data defined in the task workflow template (and only that data) is extracted by the microbrowser and displayed on the client computer. Faster rendering results.

Abstract: A cascading stylesheet (CSS) file transformed with user-selected design variables is provided. One or more CSS files may be received as a first input item, and user defined colors, fonts, layout, and images may be received as a second input item. Embodiments provide for determining if the colors and fonts selected by the user are usable and legible. User-selected color and font schemes may be modified if necessary, and a modified CSS file may be outputted to a rendering engine for rendering an aesthetically pleasing, usable, and legible web page.

Abstract: In one example, a phrase analyzer may analyze a text input stream to identify phrases contained in the text input stream. The phrase analyzer may receive a specification, which includes dictionaries of phrases and synonyms, and a specification of the phrases, or sequences of phrases to be matched. The phrase analyzer may compare the input stream to the specification and may produce, as output, an identification of which phrases appear in the input stream, and where in the input stream those phrases occur.

Abstract: Application of comments to a variety of application functionality content is provided. Comments may be entered and displayed in a comments user interface component directly in line in the text or other objects of a document or other content item. Displayed comments may be collapsed to a simplified comments tab that may remain displayed in the associated document or content item. Selection of the comments tab may allow for expansion of the comments user interface component to full size. The comments tab may likewise be collapsed to an icon or other image displayed next to the associated content, and the icon or other image may be configured to provide an indication of the length of an associated comments conversation thread. One or more social feedback mechanisms may be employed to show feedback on a given component or portion of a document or content item.

Abstract: The present invention relates to systems and methods for the peer review, originality analysis, and contextual mark-up of formatted electronic documents. In particular, the present invention provides systems and methods that utilize layered peer review, originality analysis and contextual markup modules in one view. These systems and methods have many applications, including use for online editing and education.

Abstract: A document editing method includes transferring document information to a printing device capable of printing the document information on a surface coded with a position-coding pattern. Editing information is received from a reading device capable of reading position information from the position-coded surface.

Abstract: A system and method for identifying a document based on a spectral analysis of the text of the document is described. In some examples, the system generates a document identifier for a rendered document based on assigning values to words in the rendered document, such as values associated with the frequency of use of the word by the rendered document, the absolute or relative position of the word in the rendered document, and so on. The system may use the document identifier to generate a group of documents having similar document identifiers, and choose a likely match from the group of documents based on predictive analysis.

Abstract: Methods and systems, including computer program products, implementing techniques for reviewing and editing word processing documents. The techniques include receiving from a reviewer a first comment about a word processing document receiving from the reviewer a second comment about the word processing document, sending the first comment to one or more editors and independently sending the second comment to one or more editors. Abstract: A system, including apparatuses, software and methods, is disclosed for capturing and delivering images as to which various interactive functions are enabled for a user. The images introduced to the system can come from any one of a variety of sources, including from a digital camera. A graphical user interface permits a user to customize a set of interactive functions to be enabled for a given set of images. The interactively enabled images can be delivered via a webpage to a user, for example, via email, the Internet or downloaded from a disk or from disk drive on a computer on which the webpage is stored. Each image is delivered to a user in its own layer of software, which permits complex sets of images of relatively high resolution to be delivered to users without any appreciable delay associated with the delivery or the need for the user to have additional software, such as a plug-in to receive images and enable interactive functions with respect to the images.

Abstract: A user provides an annotation, such as text or graphics, in relation to a resource available on a computer network. The annotation is automatically stored and/or retrieved without requiring separate action from the user to accomplish the storage or retrieval. An annotation interface may receive the annotation from the user. The annotation is then stored in association with the user and the network address of the resource. The user's annotation may be later retrieved and displayed to the user based on the network address of the resource. In one specific embodiment, a browser toolbar receives and displays user annotations associated with Web sites or Web pages to which the user has navigated. Preferably, the annotation interface remains available to the user throughout the time in which the resource is provided. Further controls may enable the user to make an annotation publicly available to others, and to receive annotations from others.

Abstract: A method for retrieving a representation of an annotated Web document, the annotated Web document being a Web document having at least one added annotation, the annotated Web document including an upper Web element including at least one annotation and at least one lower Web element arranged below the upper Web element, is implemented by an electronic device comprising a viewer, an Internet browser application, and an annotation application. The method includes displaying the annotated Web document by (i) detecting a touch or mouse event associated with the upper Web element, (ii) hiding the upper Web element after the detection of said event, (iii) determining a target Web element corresponding to the lower Web element situated directly below said event, and (iv) sending the event to the target Web element.

Abstract: A document corpus is annotated by given annotators and aggregates of the given annotators to generate a corpus of pre-annotated documents with given annotations. The same document corpus is annotated by a subject annotator to have subject annotations. The subject annotations are decomposed into superpositions of the given annotations. The decomposed subject annotations are mapped to a most representative superposition of the given annotations. The subject annotator may be mapped to the aggregate of given annotators corresponding to the most representative superposition.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a method is provided that can comprise receiving, by a server computer system from a user operating a client computing device, an electronic document and user input for adding one or more electronic annotations to the electronic document. The method can further comprise generating, by the server computer system, an annotated version of the electronic document that includes the one or more electronic annotations based on the user input. The server computer system can then send the annotated version of the electronic document to a recipient designated by the user.

Annotations are isolated from document content and are associated with portions of the content of the document. Annotations and content are used as a basis for a semantic search of a corpus of other documents. From the corpus, related information is extracted and presented or made available along side of or with the original content and annotations of the document. Each version of a document is stored and made accessible. Any of the versions of a document, with or without a current set of annotations, may be distributed to others for further review and annotation. Annotations are protected and associated with a level of privilege or rights. Annotations are trackable over time and location and are associated with a particular annotator.

Abstract: A system, method, and medium supports analyzing intellectual property documents by linking and annotating patents, copyrights, trademarks, license agreements, and other intellectual property documents. It can be used by intellectual property professionals in memorializing thought processes, work products, and reasoning, in preliminary or final form, and can support development and use of a rich linked set representing complex relationships in an intellectual property portfolio. Optionally, marked up, linked documents are divided into data streams; one contains the original document for mark-up, and one contains annotation data. The marked-up document may be further revised and/or annotated even by multiple users. The same document such as a patent may be centrally stored but independently marked-up by different users (or groups of users).

Abstract: A method and apparatus to mark-up an electronic document (i.e., a second electronic document) that is superimposed on a first electronic document keeping the first electronic document unchanged. The second electronic document is optionally viewed concurrently with the first electronic document. The second electronic document is capable of being viewed or modified using different application programs so long as the different application programs process the format used by the second electronic document. The second electronic document is saved as a separate document independent of the first electronic document.

Abstract: A system includes a display, a processor executing an application program for displaying an annotation file, and memory storing program instructions of the application program. The processor associates an annotation with a programming module of a baseline file to display, in an unsegmented window of a graphical user interface, the baseline file as a hierarchical structure having nodes. Each node represents a programming module of the baseline file. Displayed is an annotation in the unsegmented window of the GUI proximate to the node that represents the programming module with which the annotation is associated. The displayed annotation includes selectable messages displayed proximate to each other to facilitate visual comparison. Each selectable message describes a modification made to the baseline file by a different contributor. The annotation indicates that the modifications produce a conflict. The conflict is resolvable within the unsegmented window by a selection of one of the selectable messages.

Abstract: Systems are disclosed herein that can capture image data reflecting real world objects and/or actions and convert this data into a format that, is usable in a virtual universe (VU). Thus, image data representing real world/actual objects and actions can be acquired, converted into virtual universe compatible data, sent to a VU server where the actions and objects can be associated with a virtual area or an avatar, and a recreation of the objects and actions can be displayed to a user in the VU. This allows a participant to customize activities and objects in the VU, and provide a unique “personality” for their avatar and their VU. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide an interface between a Web browser's layout engine and a scripting engine. The interface enables objects from the layout engine to be recognized by a memory manager in the scripting engine and interact in a streamlined, efficient manner. In accordance with one or more embodiments, the interface allows browser layout engine objects to be created as objects that are native to the scripting engine. Alternately or additionally, in some embodiments, the native objects are further configured to proxy functionality between the layout engine and the scripting engine.
