Abstract: Tools and techniques for managing virtual machines, including without limitation virtual machines running in a cloud computing environment. Certain tools provide a user interface that allows a user to browse machine images to find an image that meets the user's needs. In some aspects, these tools and techniques can provide the ability for users to customize machine images to meet their own needs and/or to share their customized machine images with other users. In other aspects, these tools and techniques can provide users with the ability to export virtual machines for use on an actual computer system.

Abstract: A system permits a user's activity in relation to a physical location to be associated with a virtual community web site and, therefore, with a virtual community created by the web site. Users indicate their presence at, or association with, a physical location by sending messages from their personal communication devices, such as mobile telephones or Internet-connected computers. Users may participate in activities at the locations by sending such messages, accessing location proxy web sites or via virtual communities. An exemplary activity includes a network-connected jukebox. Users may obtain information about music being played on the jukebox. In addition, the jukebox may display information about music being played on other jukeboxes, possibly in other locations.

Abstract: A multimedia processing device implements a script having a data structure that is formed of a drawing information describing portion where media data is chronologically described, and a user navigation information describing portion where correspondence between events and actions and implementation conditions are chronologically described. The multimedia processing device implements this script, and thereby, media data is chronologically reproduced, and at the same time, a user interface showing operations that can be chronologically carried out is outputted. Then, a predetermined process, such as an insertion of media data, can be implemented by carrying out the operations following the user interface according to predetermined timing.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an operating system for a computer system connected to a telecommunication network, the operating system comprising selection display means arranged for displaying the resources. The resources comprise network resources which are accessible via the telecommunication network and system resources which are accessible via the computer system. The operating system further comprises means for receiving a resource selection and means for making the resources available dependent on the received selection. The selection display means are arranged for displaying selectable resource classes and for displaying within each of the resource classes resources belonging to that resource class. The operating system further comprises means for having the computer system autonomously classify each of the resources under one or more resource classes, and means for maintaining a classification of resources under the one or more resource classes.

Abstract: A method of authenticating and transmitting personal contents in order to easily share personal contents with acquaintances by using a display apparatus capable of accessing a network, and a display apparatus and a server therefor are provided. The method of transmitting contents includes: the display apparatus receiving at least one personal content of the at least one acquaintance from the server through the network; storing the received personal contents in relation to each acquaintance; and if the personal contents of the acquaintance are requested by the user of the display apparatus, reading the personal contents of the acquaintance among the stored personal contents and displaying the read personal contents. According to the method and apparatus, even when the user of the display apparatus does not perform linking with a corresponding server (or service provider), personal contents can be easily shared with acquaintances.

Abstract: In a server-based system for creating and editing image and or text-based projects, the system having access to a digital medium containing an executable graphics user interface (GUI) accessible by computer browser, a method is provided for selecting a photo from a plurality of photos placed in the project by a project contributor for recommendation in a photo product. The method includes the steps (a) accessing the contributor's project photos stored in the database, (b) weighting data associated with each photo used in the project against one or more business rules, (c) selecting one or more photos based on the weighting results of step (b), and (d) recommending one or more photo products containing one or more photos selected at step (c) to the contributor at an appropriate time.

Abstract: A graphical user interface and method for customer centric network management. The graphical user interface includes a first view showing text input by a user indicative of customer identification data corresponding to a customer in a network. This data is received by a server connected to the user. The server retrieves stored information corresponding to the customer identification data from a database and provides the stored information and actual circuit path information corresponding to a customer service based on the stored information to the graphical user interface. A second view of the graphical user interface shows the stored information, and a third view shows a graphical representation of a customer path corresponding to the actual circuit path information.

Abstract: Method and systems for generating notifications in a notifications system. A parameter-driven template received from a content provider contains one or more parameters related to a subscription for notifications. The notifications system enables an application based on the received template and executes it to map a recurring event to one or more subscribers as a function of the parameters specified by the content provider. In response to the recurring event, the notification system generates a notification. Other aspects of the invention relate to a computer-readable medium that defines the application for use in a notifications system.

Abstract: A request to generate a medical service team for a particular consumer of medical services is received and records including names of one or more medical service providers associated with providing a medical service to the consumer of medical services are retrieved from a data repository. An electronic invitation to join the medical service team associated with providing medical services to the consumer of medical services is sent and responses to the invitation are received. A listing of medical service team members is generated from the responses and the records.

Abstract: In a survey according to an embodiment of the invention, a subject may select from a list of items, such as activities. The subject may be asked to narrow the selection and then to supply information related to each of the remaining items. For example, the subject may be asked to indicate how much money the subject spent in the past 30 days on each of the selected activities. The subject may then be asked to assume that the spending must be reduced and to select or classify activities accordingly. Surveys may include various types of items, selection criteria, and/or information gathering that may be related, e.g., to selected items. Embodiments of the invention comprise surveys, computers and computer systems for administration of surveys, and computer-readable media encoded with instructions to cause computers or computer systems to administer surveys.

Initially, information relating to issues associated with software is gathered from a plurality of users. Such software includes a first set of help content. Next, an additional set of help content is gathered based on the information. Further, the additional set of help content is distributed to the users based on an update schedule, utilizing a network. Thus, the additional set of help content is capable of being integrated with the first set of help content and presented to the user via a single interface, utilizing the software.

Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for populating and submitting electronic forms by proxy over a data-packet-network. The apparatus comprises a software application running on a system of network-connected servers that enables a user, connected in session with one of the servers, to navigate to a site containing an electronic form and obtain data about the site and about the form. The data obtained is used in conjunction with data about the user to construct a machine readable job order upon user request that may be executed for the purpose of automatic form population and submission to a host sponsoring the site. Upon acceptance of the submitted form, data used for passwords, log-in codes and user-names is returned to a data repository where it is entered along with specific site data as a new registered site item for a registering user such that future navigation to the site, auto log-in and data return may be performed automatically on behalf of the user.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for integrating portlets. When viewing portlets within a portal container, a user is presented with a choice of one or more sources of data and, for each source, one or more actions that the user can take regarding the source. When an action is selected, it causes the source data to be transferred to one or more “target” portlets that have also been activated by the user. The set of actions available from a given source is automatically provided given the available target portlets. As each portlet is initialized, it informs a “broker” of the actions that the portlet supports along with the type of data that is used by the action. When a portal page is being constructed, each portlet identifies to the broker the sources of data within the portlet along with the values and data types corresponding to the sources.

Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention provides a method for network management that allows the configuration of IP links in one step, via a GUI form, even though the management protocols available at the two end links (routers) may differ. According to one embodiment, the method comprises gathering information from the user, validating this information, and then sending this information to the appropriate router(s). According to one embodiment, the method enables a user to specify various configurations when provisioning an IP link, for example, the type of IP link (Point-to-Point, Point-to-IP, or Point-to-Subnet), the numbering type (Numbered or Unnumbered), the application type (MPLS and/or IP Forwarding), and the sub-layer interfaces to be used (Packet Over Sonet, Asynchronous Transfer Mode, GigEthernet, and others).

The memory is configured to store first menu configuration information to compose a first menu screen and second menu configuration information to compose a second menu screen. Abstract: A method for transferring Web-based information over a network to a personal information management system includes selecting a set of Web-based information and creating a transfer request. The transfer request includes the set of Web-based information and an address for a server associated with the personal information management system. The server is in communication with the network and has access to calendar and contact data for a set of users. The transfer request is sent to the server and the set of Web-based information is stored at the server and associated with at least one user from the set of users.

Abstract: It was difficult to examine in which location of which device installation map an icon of a desired network device has been arranged. A link to the device installation map is displayed in correspondence to the network device and the icon indicative of the designated network device is emphasis-displayed.

Abstract: The present invention discloses methods and systems for managing data in user-centric environment. In this environment an entity is authorized to receive user data based on the relationship between the entity and a user. A user provides message data for communication to a selected entity by one or more communication channels. Based on privileges assigned to the entity, user data may be retrieved, including a contact method for the entity. In addition a communication template is retrieved based on the communication channel. By populating the template with the first data and the user data; a communication is created and transmitted to the selected entity using the communication method.

Abstract: A plurality of geographic locations can be individually associated with separate web pages by identifying and placing in a database geographic specific content. By linking geographic location to specific content housed within the database and then using that content to populate a hypertext markup language (HTML) web page template, a plurality of individual customized web pages can be created that are both indexable and extractable. Each level of data within the database comprises geographic specific data common to a region or location that is the focus of the web page. The structured nature of the database data enables web crawlers or indexers which are associated with various search engines to identify each specific level by way of the particular file much like that of a link within an existing web page.

Abstract: A method, user interface module, application program interface, computer program product and system that provides access to context information in a display window that remains persistent as the user navigates the application and views application data. The persistent dashboard can be populated from a communications event, such as an inbound telephone call; from data entered by the customer service agent via the user interface, such as a response to one of a series of scripted questions; from search results of a user-initiated search; or from application data displayed in a display window of the user interface. Various types of information from enterprise databases can be captured in the persistent dashboard to address the enterprise's business processes and needs. Information displayed in the persistent dashboard is configurable.

Abstract: A referral sending, tracking and management system for generating, exchanging and managing local referrals based on an input from at least one member in a business network is disclosed. The system comprises a means for searching at least one member, a means for sending referrals to at least one member, a means for receiving referrals from at least one member and at least one referral center for managing all stages of referrals from origination to completion. The system provides full accountability of the status and stages of all referral lead between each member. Each member may access profiles of all members in the business network through links provided in the webpage. Each member in the business network may be from a group of local business professionals and service providers.

Abstract: A method is provided which utilizes a threading service to offer enhanced features for a document management system including an email system. Various enhanced email features may be provided through one or more of the following components: a delete module, a reply module, a profile module, and a search module. The delete module enables a user to delete a selected message, a set of related messages, or the whole set except for the selected message. The reply module enables a user to send a reply message to all addresses associated and involved with an entire set of related messages. The profile module enables a dynamic interest profile to contain all relevant information from an outgoing message and a set of messages related to the outgoing message. The search module enables search results to include documents which match the user's query as well as documents related to the documents which match the user's query.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for producing a list of conversation as the result of a search query. Messages are received and associated with a conversation. Each of the conversations has a respective conversation identifier and includes one or more messages. Messages, and related message information, are indexed for text searching and information about the message is stored in a memory to associate the message to its respective conversation identifier. The index can be searched to identify one or more messages relevant a search query. At least some of the conversations to which the one or messages belong are identified and produced as the search result.

Abstract: A predictive travel log system using one or more ranking schemes to predict the location that a user would seek to navigate to through back and forward navigation in a web browser is provided. The navigation functionality can be exposed through traditional back and forward buttons with drop down travel log menus found in a browser user interface.

Abstract: A reseller program may be used to increase the number of Customer desired domain names that are registered by a Registrar. There are two main embodiments of this reseller program. In the first embodiment, Resellers guide Customers to a Registrar web site through the use of advertisements, links in various web sites and/or links from search engines. The Registrar web site communicates directly with the Customer and registers the Customer desired domain names and compensates the Reseller for guiding the Customer to the Registrar web site. In the second embodiment, Resellers have their own reseller web sites that communicate directly with the Customers and communicate the desired domain names to the Registrar web site so the Registrar web site can register the Customer desired domain names. In this embodiment, the Customer may compensate the Reseller and the Reseller may compensate the Registrar for the services rendered.

Abstract: A system and method for defining a segment for filtering website visitation data is disclosed. The method allows for creation and editing of a segment using various rules. The rules are defined using events and containers, which act as criteria by which the data is filtered. The system displays the segments and allows the user to apply them to stored data.

Abstract: An interface for enabling a user to quickly access contact information automatically displays a list of expected contacts that are most likely to be selected by the user when attention is directed to an appropriate object requiring contact information. When a contact is selected, the corresponding and appropriate contact information is automatically entered. If a user does not select a listed contact, but instead begins manually typing in the contact information then the interface performs a search and displays a list of unexpected contacts having contact information matching the typed input from the user. Various criteria can be used to identify which contacts will be presented to the user and how they will be presented.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for displaying menu lists and activating applications in conjunction with electronic devices that respectively load contents and an information device that reproduces the contents stored in the electronic devices. Connection to the electronic devices is detected, and a menu list is generated. The menu list automatically updates to include additional applications corresponding to electronic devices when connections to the electronic devices are respectively detected. This provides an updated menu list from which selection is made to activate a predetermined application to perform an operation related to the relevant electronic device.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a user interface design for telecommunication systems. In a particular embodiment, the user interface includes a first level interface organized by data communications network technology area and a second level interface grouped by operational function. The first level interface identifies a plurality of different data communications network technologies. Each of a plurality of operational functions identified by the second level interface includes a summary view and a detailed functional view. Each summary view is organized as a drill down view based on a set of view detail levels.

Abstract: A mobile terminal has a controller, a display and an input device connected to the controller, and a digital object browser for browsing among a plurality of available digital objects. A first representation and a second representation of each of the digital objects are presentable on a display screen. The first representations of the digital objects are presented along a predefined path on the display screen, the first representation of a focused one of the digital objects being shown in a focus area on the display screen. For the focused digital object, the second representation thereof is presented in a preview area on the display screen.

Abstract: Techniques are described for displaying a representation of a list of electronic search results while a user is reviewing content linked to by electronic search results included in the list. While the user is reviewing the search results, the user may jump between content linked to by different search results using the representation of the list of electronic search results displayed. The displayed representation of the list of search results may be updated based on the user's browsing activities in reviewing the search results, user input manipulating the list of search results, and supplemental information added to the list of search results by the user.

Abstract: Strings are recognized and annotated, or labeled, with a type label by a recognizer plug-in. Application program modules may use the type label and other metadata to provide users with a choice of electronic commerce actions. In addition, the user may be provided with a download Uniform Resource Locator (URL) and download action plug-ins for that type label. An ActionGUID may be used to specify the class ids (CLSIDs) of the action plug-ins that may provide actions for a particular semantic category type label. Each DLL has a class id (CLSID), which is a GUID. The ActionGUID is a GUID that is specified by the recognizer plug-in and which corresponds to the CLSID(s) of the only action plug-ins that should be permitted to provide actions for the semantic category type label provided by the recognizer plug-in.

Abstract: A method and system of adding functionality to an Internet browser interface. In one embodiment of the present invention, the added functionality may facilitate automatic login to a web site using an Internet browser. In another embodiment, the added functionality may enable the user to perform various tasks using the Internet browser such as, by way of non-limiting example, performing various tasks required to navigate one or more web pages, or to retrieve information desired by the user from one or more web pages or web sites.

Abstract: Enhanced presentation techniques for modeling a connectivity universe associated with a particular user or device are provided. Example embodiments provide a WorldView Display System (a “WVDS”), which automatically organizes a user's online relationships with entities, such as devices, data collections, services, and people, and provides a user interface for accessing and interacting with these entities. The WVDS automatically determines the universe of objects that the user has relationships with, automatically groups objects having similar measures of access proximity, displays a multi-dimensional representation of these groups of objects on a display device, and provides a uniform user interface for initiating an interaction with any represented object. Abstract: Methods and apparatus for configuring a bookmark are disclosed. A bookmark is configured such that the bookmark has one or more variables and/or one or more commands associated therewith. Abstract: A generic IM device/server protocol permits a single implementation of a IM application on client devices for communicating with different enterprise IM servers types. The protocol defines a server maintained tag to identify the currency of a contact list it is managing for a client device. The client device receives and persists the tag and provides it at login. The server automatically sends a contact list update only if the tag indicates the client devices contact list instance is not current. Presence updates may also be sent automatically at login and the client device need not separately request contact list or presence updates at login. The client device may be pre-provisioned with respective graphics, text and server capabilities for multiple server types. A specific IM configuration may be selected in response to service information.

Abstract: A system for navigating among resources includes a target detection module detecting whether a first resource has been branched from to two other different resources and a backward navigation module operable to detect selection of a backward navigation button and cause navigation to the first resource. A method includes designating a target resource accessible via a backward navigation button in a first browser session, detecting selection of the backward navigation button in a second browser session, and navigating to the target resource in the second browser session. The method can involve detecting hovering of a pointer icon over the backward navigation button and responsively presenting a thumbnail of a resource associated with the backward navigation button.

Abstract: A method and system for express execution of multimedia playing is provided. A computer system is installed with a first operating system and a second operating system in a data storage therein. The method includes the following steps: the computer system finishing basic booting process; the computer system loading and executing a driver to activate a touch-control display device; the touch-control display device displaying icons representing detected audiovisual players; detecting the icon selection by the user; based on the selection, loading and executing the corresponding operating system; and executing the application program corresponding to the selected audiovisual player.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for extracting and maintaining in a virtual address book one or more electronic mail addresses from one or more of the various address fields (e.g., “From,” “To,” “Cc,” “Bcc”) of one or more e-mail messages either transmitted from or received at a predetermined network node (e.g., a client or server). Electronic mail addresses stored in the virtual address book may be made available to “auto-complete” capabilities utilized during the addressing of electronic mail messages.

Abstract: Methods are provided for searching at least one directory that is external to an address book architecture including a client and a server. In one embodiment a client may communicate a contact search request that specifies an external directory which does not support a standard search format, the request causing the server to translate the request to an external search request in another format supported by the external directory. In another embodiment a server may translate a contact search request received from a client when the request specifies an external directory which does not support a standard search format. In yet another embodiment an interworking function, which is operable to import contact information from a legacy address book storage to a converged address book storage, of an address book server is adapted to query an external directory which does not support a standard search format.

Abstract: An application program is disclosed for execution on a computing device capable of supporting network communications via multiple differing communication modes. The application includes a set of user interface elements facilitating easy user selection of one of a set of communication modes supported by the computing device. Thereafter, the selected communication mode is utilized to support communications for the application. The application program also includes an interface to a transport layer component. The interface initiates binding a network interface to an endpoint opened by the application in accordance with the designation of the communication mode. Furthermore, the interface passes transmission requests to the interface identifying the endpoint. Therefore the interface facilitates forcing use of the designated network interface to complete the transmission requests of the application.

Abstract: An instant messaging (IM) system has an IM server connected to a communication network, and logic operable on the IM server enabling a first user to browse contacts associated with a second user. In some cases the first user can add and list contacts accessed by browsing the contacts associated with the second user.

Abstract: Content may be displayed on a touch-screen display of a device as part of a graphical interface in which the content is divided into categories or sections, and each category/section is associated with a graphical tab. The device may detect a selection of one of the graphic tabs based on a touch gesture received by the touch-screen display and display, on the touch-screen display, content items corresponding to the subset of content items for the selected tab.

Abstract: A CRM server sends to a client terminal activity data that has been read from a DB server, and directs the display thereof. When the activity data has been received from the CRM server, a client terminal obtains the screen data of a calendar screen is generated. Then a screen data for the activity detail screen that displays the activity data, screen data for an activity calendar screen is generated after display data for displaying information about a portion of the content of the activity has been added to screen data for a calendar screen in a field corresponding to a date and time shown by the activity data, and these generated screens are output on one screen.
