Abstract: Software is provided to handle the playback of media in browsers that in addition may use second display protocols to instruct a separate display device to play the media. The software can transmit the content or specify a network location of the same for subsequent playback on a content playback device. The software may be in the form of a web browser or other application that is configured for the playback of selected media types. The browser maintains a list of favorite and/or recently viewed services and content items and is configured to filter the list to eliminate those content items or services which are no longer available. In this way, favorite content items and services and/or recently viewed content items and services, as available to the user, are made accessible using the second display.

Abstract: A ranked set of users may be calculated from an expertise categorization for each user and a person's trust in the users for specific categories. The ranked set of users may be used for presenting search results, recommendations, social marketing, or other uses. A person's expertise may be determined through various online activities. A person's trust in another person may be related to their proximity and activity in one or more social networks.

Abstract: Enhanced presentation techniques for modeling a connectivity universe associated with a particular user or device are provided. Example embodiments provide a WorldView Display System (a “WVDS”), which automatically organizes a user's online relationships with entities, such as devices, data collections, services, and people, and provides a user interface for accessing and interacting with these entities. The WVDS automatically determines the universe of objects that the user has relationships with, automatically groups objects having similar measures of access proximity, displays a multi-dimensional representation of these groups of objects on a display device, and provides a uniform user interface for initiating an interaction with any represented object. Abstract: A computer based system and method of audience-based suggestion for content creation in social media is disclosed. The content suggestor system and method receive user requests including title of content that the requester would be interested in viewing/reading. The system routes the request to any number of target users that would be likely to responsively create/upload such content, including both users the requester has deemed appropriate as well as any the system deems appropriate. A user interface displays topic requests to the target users (users the request was routed to). Upon content being uploaded in the global computer network in response to the request, the system notifies each requesting user. The content responsively created and uploaded may be in media different from the medium of the initial request.

Abstract: Methods and systems for disambiguating entries within a contacts listing database of a mobile device detect newly created contact records having a same data element (e.g., a telephone number) and alert the user. Other contact records storing the same data element may be identified. Matching contact records may be grouped and provided a group label so that when a call is received from a member of the group, the mobile device can identify the caller using the group label. Call logs can similarly be disambiguated by informing a user when a call has been made to or received from a number that matches values in data fields of more than one contact record and enabling the user to edit or augment information recorded in the call log to properly reflect the identity of the other party to the call.

The unified resource graph includes a common root node and a plurality of subtree nodes corresponding to each of a plurality of nodes internal to the plurality of storage controllers. The common root node and the plurality of subtree nodes are ordered in a top-down orientation. Scalable volume provisioning of an existing or new workload amount by graphical manipulation of at least one of the storage components represented by the unified resource graph is performed based on an input.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for previewing new events in a computing device having a plurality of applications for managing respective events are described. Individual applications are each represented by an application icon on a screen of a graphical user interface for the device. When a new event occurs, particularly when the new event relates to a specific one of a plurality of similar applications, the invention provides a convenient way to denote which application relates to the event. In response to a new event of a one of the applications, the application's icon is visually modified to notify of the new event. A visual modification may be determined in response to the new event, for example, to preview a content of the event. The visual modification may include a count of all new events that remain to be disposed. On a selection of the visually modified icon, additional previewing may be provided.

Abstract: Concepts and technologies are described herein for interacting with contextual and task-focused computing environments. Tasks associated with applications are described by task data. Tasks and/or batches of tasks relevant to activities occurring at a client are identified, and a UI for presenting the tasks is generated. The UIs can include tasks and workflows corresponding to batches of tasks. Workflows can be executed, interrupted, and resumed on demand. Interrupted workflows are stored with data indicating progress, contextual information, UI information, and other information. The workflow is stored and/or shared. When execution of the workflow is resumed, the same or a different UI can be provided, based upon the device used to resume execution of the workflow. Thus, multiple devices and users can access workflows in parallel to provide collaborative task execution.

Abstract: Methods and systems for connecting to a network, such as a wired or wireless network, are provided. A method may include displaying a menu with one or more menu options in response to a user indication. Each menu option may indicate an available network and the status of the available network. Upon receiving a user menu selection indicating a selected available network, an authentication input field may be provided with the corresponding menu option in the displayed menu. The user may enter authentication information in the authentication input field in order to be connected to the selected available network. The corresponding menu option may display further status information upon successful connection to the selected available network.

Abstract: A computer implemented method for intelligently enabling menu choices includes rendering, on a client system, an address book user interface comprising information related to one or more contacts, selecting a contact from the address book user interface, determining an online presence state for the selected contact, enabling one or more menu options based upon the determined online presence state, with the menu options enabled for a first online presence state differing from the menu options enabled for a second online presence state, and presenting the enabled menu options to a user in a user interface.

An indication of a user selection of at least one criteria is received, the user selection received through a user interface. A degree of correlation is determined between each digital resource in the plurality and each of the criteria. Data is sent that is configured for use in presenting, in a window of the user interface, a plurality of graphical resource objects and at least one graphical attractor object, each graphical resource object representing a digital resource in the plurality of digital resources and each graphical attractor object representing one of the criteria. Each resource object is presented a distance from each attractor object, the distance based at least in part on the corresponding degree of correlation between the digital resource represented by the resource object and the criteria represented by the attractor object.

Abstract: Methods and systems for connecting to a network, such as a wired or wireless network, are provided. A method may include displaying a menu with one or more menu options in response to a user indication. Each menu option may indicate an available network and the status of the available network. Upon receiving a user menu selection indicating a selected available network, an authentication input field may be provided with the corresponding menu option in the displayed menu. The user may enter authentication information in the authentication input field in order to be connected to the selected available network. The corresponding menu option may display further status information upon successful connection to the selected available network.

The image data storage unit stores plural pieces of image data. The operation unit allows a user to input an instruction. Abstract: The rendering of portal pages on can be sped up by allowing individual portlets to be displayed while other portlets of the page are still waiting to finish rendering. Temporary messages can be displayed for the portlets that are still rendering. This temporary content can be replaced by the finished portal rendering for the slow rendering portlets. Additionally, a timeout feature for the portlets can be used. The timeout feature allows the rendering of the portlet to be stopped after a certain period of time.

The welder includes a communication logic that receives signals from the user interface indicating the selection and receives from the data store the welder data and the entity data. The communication logic also generates the help request in at least one format corresponding and directed to a communication mode correlated to the selected entity. The welder further includes a processor that causes the network interface to transmit the help request in the network.

Abstract: A visual mapping system and method facilitate communication and collaboration among users sharing visual maps or topics in visual maps. The visual mapping system tracks user presence in individual topics in the visual mapping system. User presence is tracked for users that are online. If an online user is present in a topic, the system displays an indication of such presence in the topic to other online users currently sharing the same topic. The visual mapping system also provides an interface in the visual map through which an online user can initiate communications with other online users that are present in a shared topic. Types of communications that can be initiated through the visual map include chat sessions, instant meetings, telephone calls, and email messages.

Abstract: A geospatial platform for building applications involving location and time is disclosed. The applications allow users to analyze and make sense of the location and time-based data generated by a wide variety of devices in real time, as it is generated. The platform in one example features a dashboard for associating code statements with a variety of data visualizations. The code statements access real-time and/or location based data and generate a result set that is optimized for displaying a selected data visualization in the dashboard. The code statements are ideally executed on a server so that large quantities of data can be manipulated as it is generated by various devices in real-time.

A set of resources required by each action choice is identified. The set of resources is associated with a decision context. The decision context exists for a period of time. The set of resources are allocated to the user for a duration of the decision context. The allocating prevents the set of resources from being allocated to other users for the duration of the decision context irrespective of a set of actions performed by the other users.

In use, different users are provided access to a plurality of sections of a file selected by the different users based on a community value for at least one community dimension assigned to each section of the file selected by the different users. In particular, a user is conditionally provided access to a section of a file selected by the user, based on a comparison of a user value indicating a community with which the user is associated to the community value for the at least one community dimension assigned to the section of the file selected by the user.

Abstract: Various embodiments can provide a virtual online robot (bot) or security agent. The agent or guardian can monitor on line conversations and can act to intervene in an event a conversation's content meets certain definable criteria that indicates that the content might be inappropriate or possibly harmful or risky. In at least some embodiments, the agent or guardian is configured to utilize natural language processing techniques to evaluate the context of a conversation across its span and/or conversations across individual users. Using natural language processing techniques, the agent or guardian can then present notifications or warnings to individual users (or others) when a particular conversation or portion thereof is deemed problematic.

These methods include: an advanced bookmarking method, a social network, time-management tools, a personal media, and simple mail transfer protocol tool. WebConnect allows easy access to websites, specifically those that require accounts with passwords. When a user has bookmarked a website, websites over an https require you to log in; even when the user has exercised the option of having the browser remember the username and password. The application provided by WebConnect gives the user the option of saving the website in memory even while logged in. So the next time the user wants to visit that specific web page, they can simply navigate to the website without signing in. This application is referred to as trapping, and it is the central part of WebConnect that eliminates having to memorize various logins.

Abstract: A resource selection system is described for assisting a user in performing a task that includes multiple actions. At each stage of the task, the system presents a set resources from which the user may select to perform a subsequent action in the task. The system implicitly selects the set of resources based on context information that identifies the user's current informational needs. For example, the context information may be derived from textual information that is being presented on a user device, which the user is presumed to be viewing at the current time. In one implementation, the system selects the set of resources by computing language models for respective domains and respective entities. The system uses the language models to determine the relevance of the context information to each of the domains. The system then selects resources associated with domains that have been assessed as relevant.

Abstract: As a user navigates through a sequence of screens by selecting certain “aid” keys, a graph will be built reflecting the navigation history of the user. When a user requests a certain screen by selecting a particular key, screen data is received from a host on a web server. The screen data for the requested screen is compared to the screen data for the screen(s) in the graph associated with the selected key. If a match is established, the user has visited this screen before and its data has already been converted (e.g., scraped). As such, the screen can be retrieved from storage and served to the user. If, however, a match cannot be established, the requested screen will be converted and stored, and the graph will be updated.
