Abstract: An improved progress bar can convey a completion status of a task to a user in a manner that properly manages the expectations of the user. A browser application can overestimate a time to load a web page and thereby cause a completion status indicator in a progress bar to increment at a slower rate. The rate at which the completion status indicator increments can be adjusted as the browser application updates its estimation of the remaining load time. By underreporting the completion status of the task (i.e., loading the web page), the chances of the completion status indicator stalling towards the end of the progress bar are minimized, thereby allowing the user's expectations of completion of the task to be property managed.

Abstract: Systems and methods for an interactive graphical user interface for depicting the status of a claim are provided. The system includes a database for storing claim data and a server in communication with the database. The stored claim data includes a claim workflow associated the claim. The workflow defines the processing steps associated with processing the claim. The server receives a user request to check the status of the claim. The server determines status data of the claim based on stored claim data and outputs the status data to a graphical user interface for depicting a graphical representation of the status data. The graphical representation includes a timeline corresponding to the workflow of the claim and a progress bar indicative of the status of the claim.

Abstract: In addition to conveying a completion status of a task to a user, a progress bar can display a visual indication that the task is substantially complete (e.g., essential elements of a web page are loaded) followed by another visual indication that informs the user that a particular feature or functionality has been enabled. For example, in addition to displaying a visual cue (e.g., a rocket effect) when a triviality threshold indicating that the task is complete to a threshold degree, another indicator can be displayed in response to determining that a status of a feature has been modified. Determining that the status of the feature is modified when the triviality threshold is met and thus displaying the other visual indicator immediately following the visual indication produces a dramatic visual cue in directing the user's attention to the visual enablement of the feature.

Abstract: Some embodiments relate to providing an improved progress indicator in a graphical user interface. In addition to conveying a completion status of a task to a user, an improved progress indicator in some embodiments can convey additional information about the task to the user. For example, some embodiments can display a visual cue when a triviality threshold indicating that the task is “substantially complete” is met.

Abstract: A visualization system that generates customized visualization(s) in an industrial automation environment includes an interface component that receives input concerning displayed objects and information, a context component that can detect, infer or determine context information regarding an entity, and a visualization component that dynamically generates a visualization from a set of display object to present to the entity that is a function of the received information and inferred or determined entity context.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring devices such as servers in one or more data centers. In one embodiment of the method a first graphical user interface is displayed on a computer system such as a desktop computer system. The first graphical user interface may include first and second graphical elements corresponding to first and second system racks, respectively, within a data center. The first system rack may include a plurality of computer systems such as servers. The second system rack may also include a plurality of computer systems such as servers. The first graphical element may include first visual information identifying a location of the first system rack on a floor within the data center, and the second graphical element may include second visual information identifying a location of the second system rack on the floor within the data center.

Abstract: Tracking and monitoring athletic activity offers individuals with additional motivation to continue such behavior. An individual may track his or her athletic activity by completing goals. These goals may be represented by real-world objects such as food items, landmarks, buildings, statues, other physical structures, toys and the like. Each object may correspond to an athletic activity goal and require an amount of athletic activity to complete the goal. For example, a donut goal object may correspond to an athletic activity goal of burning 350 calories. The user may progress from goal object to goal object. Goal objects may increase in difficulty (e.g., amount of athletic activity required) and might only be available for selection upon completing an immediately previous goal object, a number of goal objects, an amount of athletic activity and the like.

Abstract: In some implementations, a computer-implemented method of displaying alert information with a mobile communication device includes displaying device status indicators to a user of a mobile device in a status area; receiving information from an application to display an alert in the status area; displaying in the status area a first level of information for the alert and a user-selectable control; and displaying, in response to a selection of the user-selectable control, a second level of information for the alert that provides greater detail than the first level of information.

Abstract: A method for monitoring an industrial process with a graphical user interface of an operator panel. The graphical user interface is adapted to change between a default mode in which it presents a plurality of objects related to the industrial process, and a user-adapted mode in which a subset of the plurality of objects is presented. The subset of objects is selected based on a parameter value which is associated with each object of the plurality of objects. The graphical user interface enters the user-adapted mode by the method determining whether a time of inactivity of the operator panel exceeds a threshold value, and, provided that the threshold value has been exceeded, removing those objects of the plurality of objects on the graphical user interface which are not included in the subset of objects.

Abstract: A visualization design system is provided. The system includes a metadata component to describe characteristics of data. An analyzer determines attributes of a peer group, where the attributes are related to prior visualization design experiences of the group. A wizard component determines a subset of potential visualization types based in part on the characteristics of data and the attributes of the peer group.

Abstract: In an embodiment, in a graphical modeling environment, users may create models that can be executed. Within the graphical modeling environment, users may use implicit iterator systems to manage multiple iterations of systems whereby the indexing of input and output signals may be defined by a user and state may be managed for an iteration. The number of iterations taken by the implicit iterator system can adapt to input and output signal dimensions.

Abstract: A method and a device for displaying a start-up interface of a multimedia terminal are provided. The method includes: generating start-up interface data according to a picture and configuration information provided by a user and saving the generated data in a storage module; reading by a searching module the start-up interface data from the storage module to a memory; extracting a start-up interface picture from the start-up interface data; and displaying by a display module the start-up interface picture on a screen. The method and the device therefore provide display with different resolutions for a multimedia start-up interface, and realize customization of the start-up interface picture and start-up state information.

The method can include receiving an identification for a wireless device at an access gateway and determining that the wireless device is not authorized to access a communication network based on the received identification. The method can further include sending a rejection notification to a messaging node indicating that the wireless device is not authorized to access the communication network and sending an access notification from the messaging node to an authorization device when the rejection notification is received at the messaging node. The access notification can include network access information to enable the wireless device to access the communication network. The authorization device is determined based on the identification. The method can also include receiving a response from the authorization device based on the network access information, and enabling access from the wireless device to the communication network.

Abstract: This disclosure describes systems and methods for reducing nuisance alarms associated with monitoring non-physiological parameters in a ventilatory system. Non-physiological parameters may include, but are not limited to, parameters that are internally monitored by the ventilator based on pre-configured ranges dictated by the manufacturer, by an applicable protocol, or by the clinician. Embodiments described herein seek to mitigate nuisance alarms by basing alarm conditions, at least in part, on an integral threshold such that an alarm is not generated when a monitored parameter briefly falls outside an acceptable range by a slight degree, but such that an alarm is generated when a monitored parameter falls outside an acceptable range by a more significant magnitude and/or duration.

Abstract: Providing data to portlets can include a step of registering a plurality of portlets to determine a type of data required by the portlets. The registering can establish a portlet context for handling future data requests for the portlets. A type of information associated with one of the portlets can be determined. A data acquisition process can be initialized to obtain the determined type of information from a data source. A data request can be received for data of the determined type from the associated portlet. Data can be acquired from the data source using the initialized process. The data request can be responded to using the acquired data. In one embodiment, the acquisition of data from the source and the updating of the portlets can occur asynchronously, where a cache is used to temporarily store data acquired from the data source that is used to update the portlets.

In addition, a grouping module can be used to identify groups of messages that are related and to highlight relationship arc icons which are part of a group.

The user can specify conditions for displaying graphical indicators instead of actual data by specifying a test, values, and an image. The graphical indicators can be pre-assigned images that are dynamically applied based on the underlying text or numeric data values. Graphical indicators allow the user to visually represent data types or categories with graphics, based on the user's conditions. Different conditions can be specified for a given data field and each condition can be associated with a particular graphical indicator. Prioritized processing of data conditions allow for complex control of which indicator will be displayed to visually represent the data. When the underlying data in a field changes, the criteria can be reapplied and the field dynamically updated to the appropriate indicator.

The original entry is not discarded from the natural language interface as a result of processing. After processing one or more received natural language entries, the entries remain in the natural language interface to be viewed and managed. The entry is maintained so it can be managed with other natural language entries provided in the interface.

A “doodling” zone or pane is provided in association with an electronic task interface that allows for entry of sketches, notes, the playing of games, and the like in association with entry, editing and use of task or list items in the task interface. In addition, task items entered into the task interface may be associated with other information, including previously entered or accomplished tasks, third party task content, enterprise task content, or other content. As tasks are completed, a completing user may be rewarded with a variety of on-display animations, gifts, reward items and/or other positive feedback.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for substantially automatically generating a device capabilities file for a device in a printing environment. Features and aspects hereof provide for providing an XML schema (XMLS) file representing the available features of the device and then substantially automatically generating a device capabilities file from the XMLS file. The XMLS file may be substantially automatically generated by appropriate computing tools based on provided JDF job tickets for the device or may be generated by any other means and provided for generation of the device capabilities file. The device capabilities file may be generated by parsing the hierarchical tree structured XMLS file to identify attributes and elements therein. Each attribute is then translated to a corresponding device capabilities entry representing the available features of the device and setting values for each feature to generate the device capabilities file.

Abstract: A handheld communication device is used to capture a video and stabilize the video during a video chat session. The device has a camera to capture a video during a video chat session that is conducted between a user of the device and a far-end user. The video includes images frames, each of the image frames containing an image of a face of the user. The device detects the position of the face in each image frame. Based on the detected position of the face, a boundary area of each image frame is cropped to produce an output video while the video is being captured. The image of the face stays substantially stationary in the output video. The output video is transmitted to the far-end user during the video chat session. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Abstract: A timeline visualization system displays one or more groups of related events over a specified period of time within a timeline, where each group of related events is represented within the timeline as an event group. When a user interacts with the timeline, the event group expands and displays all the related events within the event group in a layer on top of the timeline. When a user interacts with the timeline a second time, the event group collapses, and the timeline (including the one or more event groups), is once again displayed.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method for graphically indicating a progress of multiple parts of a task involves 1) dividing the task, as a whole, into a plurality of work units, and 2) as the task is executed, and for each of the work units, separately indicating, via a graphical user interface, whether work was performed for each task part during each work unit. Abstract: Methods and devices provide an efficient user interface for initiating a function by detecting an ellipsoidal continuous touch path on a touch surface of a computing device. In an embodiment the initiated function may end an application. A user may initiate the function operation by tracing an ellipsoidal shape (e.g., a circle) a touchscreen or touchpad. A display image may be contorted to inform the user about the progress towards accomplishing the function. The function operation of contorting the display image may begin at a minimum measure of the traced path and complete at a maximum measure of the traced path. In an embodiment, terminating an application and returning to the home display may be achieved in response to a clockwise path trace and minimizing of an application and returning to home display may be achieved in response to a counterclockwise path trace, or vice versa.
