In various embodiments, the dashboard includes a weather tab, wherein invoking the weather tab advances to a weather screen. The dashboard also includes an indoor humidity tab. A programs tab and a home tab are also provided. The dashboard further comprises: a) a screen that employs a backlight to display information to a user; b) a backlight, and c) a motion detector, wherein the backlight is turned on by the motion detector upon a detection of motion.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods for presenting speech from a selected text that is on a computing device. This method includes presenting text on a touch-sensitive display and having that text size within a threshold level so that the computing device can accurately determine the intent of the user when the user touches the touch screen. Once the user touch has been received, the computing device identifies and interprets the portion of text that is to be selected, and subsequently presents the text audibly to the user.

Abstract: A digital signage system comprising: a client device associated with a display device and linked to a server through the worldwide network, and having a user input device, the client device being configured to perform the following functions: (a) receiving a signal from the server, the signal corresponding to signage; (b) displaying the signage based on the signal; (c) displaying a window to configure the signage, the window being displayed in front of the signage, the window providing inputs to select content and/or format of the signage; (d) transmitting a selection of the content and/or format to the server when the selection is entered by a user; (e) receiving an updated signal from the server corresponding to the signage modified according to the selection; and (f) displaying the modified signage while the window is displayed, thereby providing the user with near real-time feedback of changes made to the signage.

Abstract: An improved user interface is provided for displaying a gallery of images showing different formatting options combinations that may be applied to a selected object. When a particular image is selected an associated formatting options combination is automatically applied to the selected object.

Abstract: A system and method for controlling media through a user interface integrated within a taskbar is described. This system and method enable a user to control media while a user interface of another application remains in perspective. Further, this system includes a taskbar media player, which can play media and enable a user to control the play of that media from within a taskbar.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus is configured to execute a plurality of operations in parallel. A display unit displays a header identifying each operation in a plurality of operation on a display unit. A control unit switches a current operation based on selection of the header via an input unit and, when switching the current operation, controls display of suspension information to indicate a suspension state of a suspended operation on the header for the suspended operation in addition to the current operation.

Abstract: A system, method and graphical user interface that allows for the intuitive and automatic collection of data using a portable computing device in an operating theater. Such a system may be used in a wide variety of applications in which a large range of data is periodically collected from multiple subjects. The invention may be especially useful in the medical arts—such as anesthesiology.

Abstract: Technologies are described herein for providing a context pane with semantic zoom. A content interface including a content pane and a context pane is provided. The content pane may be adapted to provide content, and the context pane may be adapted to display a richness of contextual data. A selectable interface element is also provided in the content interface. When the interface element is selected, the context pane may be transformed from displaying the richness of contextual data into displaying another richness of contextual data.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a design that employs a system of tabs that have parent-child relationships. Within each tab, compartments containing selectable functionality controls may be included, wherein the compartments are logically and systematically arranged to map to the tabs under which they fall, and are shown in an order that reflects the designer's intent of priority and frequency of use.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention may provide a method for process management. The method may comprise reading information about sub-processes and their respective sub-steps of a main process and displaying a process overview diagram for the main process. The process overview diagram may display a tab for each sub-process and sub-step respectively. Each tab may include an icon indicating the status of a respective sub-process or sub-step. The tab for each sub-step may be displayed underneath and linked to the respective sub-process. The method may further comprise, responsive to a click to select a view level, expanding the tabs for sub-steps to show the person responsible for the respective sub-step, detailed contact information of the responsible person, a description of what needs to be performed and a link to send a quick reminder to the responsible person when the status for the respective sub-step is “in process”.

Abstract: Methods, computer-readable storage mediums encoded with computer programs executed by one or more processors, and systems, for organizing browser windows are disclosed. A selection of one or more tabs of a plurality of tabs arranged on one or more windows of a browser may be received, wherein each of the plurality of tabs corresponds to a web page. The tabs may be grouped based on the selection. The grouped tabs may be arranged on a grouped window of the browser. The grouped window comprising the grouped tabs may be tagged with an identifier that differentiates the grouped window from a remaining one or more windows of the browser not associated with the grouped tabs.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a method, computer system, and computer program for providing grouped tabs in a web browser. When multiple web pages are open in multiple tabs, a user initiated event indicating the creation of a group of tabs can be detected and at least two tabs may be associated with the created group. A group tab representing the group of tabs can then be displayed in place of all the individual tabs.

Abstract: A user interface configured to display a first set of subject data in a first image workspace on the at least one display. Abstract: Electronic equipment is controlled with a touching-type signal input device. An inputted navigator-calling request is received. A request mode of the inputted navigator-calling request is compared with a predefined request mode. It is determined whether the request mode of the inputted navigator-calling request matches with the predefined request mode. A navigator is displayed in response to determining there is a match. The navigator has a set of tabs distributed on at least part of a closed structure.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing a user interface. The disclosed systems and methods may include receiving a request to initiate an application program configured to generate a data file. Furthermore, the disclosed systems and methods may include displaying, by the initiated application program, a property panel in response to the request. The property panel may be configured to receive meta-data to be associated with the data file generated by the application program. Also, the property panel may be configured to provide the only place to receive the meta-data by the application program. Moreover, the disclosed systems and methods may include receiving the meta-data in the property panel.

Abstract: An approach is provided to display a common display page on a variety of display devices using the item's tab order property to determine the display order. Controls that are displayed on a display device typically have a tab order. When a window that has controls is displayed, the cursor is typically placed at the control with the lowest (i.e., first) tab order. When the user presses the tab key, the cursor moves to the control corresponding to the next lowest tab order. This allows the designer to design a single window (or panel) that is displayed differently on constrained devices. However, even though the window is displayed differently, using tab order mapping maintains a consistent visible proximity between controls despite the type of display device being used by the user.

Abstract: A virtual web-based computing platform combining a particular network database hierarchy, graphical user interface, and integrated suite of computational tools accessible on demand, by which users gain access to an integrated Virtual Workspace for organizing emails, contacts, bookmarks, tasks, documents, notes, and all other relevant information. The network database hierarchy employs unique data structure and methods, allowing the user to centrally store and manage all data, regardless of type, as well as activities (actions taken and documented by the user). Nevertheless, the interface to said database offers a familiar folder/sub-folder “look and feel” using a tree data hierarchy, which gives a common, centralized and unified approach for storing, managing, displaying, and various types of data, regardless of object- and data-types.

Abstract: An illustrative embodiment of a computer-implemented method to manage properties in a dialog from various sources creates a widget properties dialog and receives properties and validation rules from each source associated with the widget properties dialog to form received information. The computer-implemented method further creates a group of tabs in the widget properties dialog using the received information, wherein the group of tabs contains a general tab and a group of content tabs, wherein each content tab is specific to an instance of content provider and content type.

Abstract: A method for transforming a virtual object based on user input information including receiving by an input device a user input alpha-numeric input information, correlating, using one or more processors, the user input alpha-numeric information with transformation of one or more characteristics of the virtual object, and transforming, using one or more processors, the one or more characteristics of the virtual object from a first configuration to a second configuration based on the correlated user input alpha-numeric information.

Abstract: Displaying a ribbon user interface in a context dependant fashion. A method includes displaying a ribbon user interface. The ribbon user interface is associated with some set of user data and includes one or more displayed tabs. Each tab includes one or more groups that are displayed for a given tab. Each group includes one or more controls. Displaying a ribbon user interface includes displaying a single set of groups, and one or more sets of controls, one for each group, for a single tab that is selected. The method further includes receiving user input related to the user data resulting in a change of context related to the user data. Membership of at least one of the single set of groups or the one or more sets of controls is changed based on the change of context related to the user data.

Abstract: A method and system for combining tabs of a tabbed document interface (“TDI”) is provided. A combinable TDI system allows tabs of a TDI to be combined to form a single tab of the TDI. To combine tabs, the combinable TDI system generates a combined tab name from the tab names of the tabs to be combined and combined tab content from the content of the tabs to be combined. If the width of the content is greater than what can be currently displayed in the window, the combinable TDI system may add a scroll bar to the TDI so that the user can scroll and make visible portions of the content that were previously not visible. The combinable TDI system then displays the combined tab and removes the tabs that have been combined. The combinable TDI system may also allow a user to split a combined tab into separate tabs.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a web browser user interface includes a subset of selected controls distributed along a single line at the top of the web browser user interface. Layouts of the controls can be in a left-to-right or a right-to-left fashion. Specifically, in a left-to-right layout, selected controls meeting certain criteria can appear to the left of other controls. Similarly, in a right-to-left layout, selected controls meeting certain criteria can appear to the right of other controls. In at least some embodiments, at least some of the controls that appear distributed along the single line are controls that are related to navigation of some type. Such controls can include those that enable textual input to be provided by user.

Abstract: In at least some embodiments, a web browser user interface is designed to enable site branding and functionality. Specifically, websites can provide content that can be utilized in a control layout area near the top of the web browser user interface to reinforce branding through the use of color and/or a site-provided icon, termed a “favicon” that serves dual roles as a branding instrumentality and a site's home button. Further, in at least some embodiments, branding can be reinforced through the use of a site-associated color that is utilized for rendering one or more web browser navigation controls.

Abstract: Various embodiments provide message queue management techniques designed to reduce the likelihood of multi-component applications becoming nonresponsive and enable recovery options for individual components if they do become nonresponsive. In at least some embodiments, a message queue manager detects when a component of an application interface becomes nonresponsive and detaches the component from a shared message queue. The shared message queue can continue to process messages for other responsive components while messaging for the nonresponsive component is managed via a separate queue. The message queue manager can also notify a user regarding the nonresponsive component and provide the user with options to facilitate recovery of the nonresponsive component. Further, in at least some embodiments, the message queue manager can monitor a detached component and reattach the detached component when it becomes responsive again.

Abstract: An item display method and apparatus that provides an easier and faster way to locate a desired item on a display. The method and apparatus receive a user gesture on display screen, and display one or both of items of a first category and items of a second category according to the user gesture. Items of the first category and items of the second category are displayed in various ways according to associated user gestures.

Abstract: A freeform selection tool for a computer system with a graphical user interface allows a user to draw a freeform selection path so as to select one or more graphical objects. The user is provided with the freedom to input selection ink, in any orientation, and using any desired selection path size provided by the select tool. The selecting tool may change the visual appearance of any graphical object once selected. The selecting tool provides the ability to select ink or graphical object with a particular property to be used for the selection. The selecting tool can recognize various selection gestures coordinated with a semantic relationship of the ink so that the number of selection ink strokes can be minimized. The selecting tool may change for different selection modes depending on the type of graphical object encountered and change of the context for a particular selection.

Abstract: An Uninterruptible Power System is described that is configured to operate as a buffer between a supplied power and an electrical load such that if line voltage is interrupted power to the load is maintained for a period of time. The uninterruptible power system is characterized in that it has a user interface that includes a touch screen having a display for presenting a graphical user interface and configured for manual user activation upon touching of said screen upon portions of the displayed graphical user interface, and a control module having programming configured to display a graphical user interface on the touch screen.

Abstract: An improved user interface is provided for displaying selectable functionality controls that identifies the context of the object to which the user interface is relevant, which contains rich functionality controls for applying contextually relevant functionality to a selected object, and which may be efficiently switched to a different context for applying a different set of functionalities to a different or neighboring editable object. A context menu of functionalities is displayed adjacent to a selected object where the menu of functionalities includes functionalities associated with editing the selected object. The context menu includes an identification of the object context and a control for selectively changing the context and associated functionalities of the menu to a different object context for displaying a different set of functionalities associated with the different context.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus according to the present invention includes a tab browser that can hold a plurality of pieces of screen information provided by a Web server in different windows and that can switch any of the windows into an active state by a user selecting a tab relating to that window. In the information processing apparatus, a determination unit, if a request for screen information from the user is accepted, determines whether there is any window that is not active among the windows held by the tab browser. If it is determined that a window that is not active exists among the windows held by the tab browser, a control unit closes the window that is not active. After the window that is not active was closed, a request unit requests the screen information requested by the user from the Web server.

Abstract: The disclosure describes improved systems and methods for configuring the layout of a graphical display in a ventilatory system. Specifically, the present methods provide a user interface for configuring one or more layout categories associated with data on the graphical display. Upon selection of a layout category, a clinician is provided with a preview of the layout of the layout category. The preview consists of one or more parameter positions. Each parameter position is associated with a parameter. The clinician is also provided with a listing of possible parameters. The parameter positions in the preview and the possible parameters in the listing are selectable elements. Once a parameter position is selected, a possible parameter can be chosen to replace the parameter associated with the selected parameter position. If this replacement is acceptable to the clinician, the clinician can access an accept button to implement the replacement in the graphical display.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a user interface for information services related to multimodal information on a computer system is presented. A system for providing a user interface for augmenting multimodal information with information services and interacting with the information services is described.

Abstract: A method is provided for displaying subforms in a perspective having areas and portlets. An entity represented by a portlet is configured using a form within the portlet. Sub-entities may require configuration as part of configuring the first entity. When a user configures a sub-entity, a subform is opened presenting means of configuring the sub-entity. The subform overlays most of the parent form, making the parent form inaccessible until configuration of the sub-entity is either accepted or cancelled. Using subforms, it is apparent to a user that configuration of the first entity is not complete until all related sub-entities have also been configured. Use of subforms within a portlet also allows other information necessary for configuration of the entity or sub-entities to be viewed by the user.

Abstract: A method is provided for creating a floating window in a perspective view of data, such as network management data. The floating window can be moved freely about the perspective and resized, thereby allowing other data of importance which is tied to areas of the perspective to be seen. Portlets, containing aspects of data, can be located in the floating window. The floating window in modal mode is particularly useful for requiring a user to interact with or view data without being able to interact with data in the rest of the perspective. The floating window can also be created in non-modal mode, which allows a user to move portlets from existing areas to the more flexible floating window.

Abstract: A method for managing and displaying related information in a graphical user interface includes storing each of a plurality of related datasets in a discrete file. A compound file is stored linking the discrete data files to each other. A common window for the combined file is displayed in the graphical user interface. A discrete window for each discrete file is displayed within the common window.

Abstract: A system allowing a user of a browser program on a computer connected to an open distributed hypermedia system to access and execute an embedded program object. The program object is embedded into a hypermedia document much like data objects. The user may select the program object from the screen. Once selected the program object executes on the user's (client) computer or may execute on a remote server or additional remote computers in a distributed processing arrangement. After launching the program object, the user is able to interact with the object as the invention provides for ongoing interprocess communication between the application object (program) and the browser program. One application of the embedded program object allows a user to view large and complex multi-dimensional objects from within the browser's window. The user can manipulate a control panel to change the viewpoint used to view the image.

Abstract: Method and system for operating tabbed browsing with anti-spoofing protection. Tabbed browsing operates to detect pop-up dialogs sent from malicious web pages operating in a background browser. Keystrokes and keyboard messages are prevented from being delivered to background browsers. Unauthorized movement of background browsers are detected. URLs are inspected before being saved or restored.

Abstract: Embodiments provide aspects of a workspace interface that includes a number of customizable business role workspaces, but are not so limited. In an embodiment, a computer-implemented method provides a number of role-specific workspaces as part of an integrated business development application, each role-specific workspace including role-specific ribbon tools, gadgets, and/or tabs tailored to address particular aspects of a business or business role. In one embodiment, a number of customizable role-specific workspaces are combined with personal information management features as part of providing an integrated business management solution. Other embodiments are included and available.

Abstract: A multi-document application that includes a multi-document interface that includes a view area that displays one document at a time and includes a tab group element that displays tabs, each tab having a control that permits a corresponding document to be visualized in the view area. When a new document is opened in the multi-document application, the multi-document interface adds a new tab to the tab group element to represent the newly opened document. The color coding of the tabs and/or the tab sizing is configurable by a user rather than being predetermined. Other visual properties may also be configurable.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for providing additional data within a document. Such techniques include providing a first document with a sub-region on a user interface, wherein the sub-region is associated with additional data. Techniques further include identifying an action to zoom-in on the sub-region and loading a zoomed-in version of the sub-region when the action is identified. Moreover, the techniques also include displaying the zoomed-in version of the sub-region, including the additional data, on the user interface, wherein the zoomed-in version of the sub-region is a separate document than the first document.

Abstract: A system allowing a user of a browser program on a computer connected to an open distributed hypermedia system to access and execute an embedded program object. The program object is embedded into a hypermedia document much like data objects. The user may select the program object from the screen. Once selected the program object executes on the user's (client) computer or may execute on a remote server or additional remote computers in a distributed processing arrangement. After launching the program object, the user is able to interact with the object as the invention provides for ongoing interprocess communication between the application object (program) and the browser program. One application of the embedded program object allows a user to view large and complex multi-dimensional objects from within the browser's window. Abstract: Systems and methods for displaying tab elements representing viewable page elements. A set of one or more main tabs are displayed on a first portion of a display, each main tab defining a link to a database object stored in a database. A user selection of a first one of the main tabs is received (e.g., to determine which tab provides default display), and two or more side tabs are displayed in a first, default order on a second portion of the display, each said side tab defining a link to an element or portion of a first object. In certain aspects, a user selection of a new order for the two or more side tabs is received, and thereafter the two or more side tabs are displayed in the new order, and the new order is stored to the database, wherein upon later access of the first object by the user, the two or more side tabs are automatically displayed in the new order.

Abstract: A web application dialog user interface is provided for presenting users with controls for viewing, editing, and otherwise managing content through the web application. Consistency in style and order of control elements in the user interface with control elements of a standard application user interface, launching of the dialog without a page refresh, and maintenance of task continuity provide users a seamless experience in managing their documents through the web application without loss of context.

Abstract: A data processing device for providing access to information related to a digital image record includes a display for presenting the digital image record. A user interface system receives an indication of user interaction with the displayed digital image record. A data processing system responsive to the received indication presents tab on the display. The tab displays or emanates near or from an edge of the displayed digital image record or from an edge of a displayed digital image record container including the digital image record. The tab includes an access point configured to allow a user to access a category of information related to content contained within the digital image record, and the tab is labeled according to the category of information for user access.
