Abstract: A method for personalizing content for a particular user in a computing system comprising a user interface configured to display content. The method comprises identifying one or more features of a short term profile of a user that are not included in a long term profile of the user, using the one or more features to identify one or more third party profiles having features that substantially match the one or more features of the user's short term profile, accessing the identified one or more third party profiles, and providing one or more content items included in the third party profile to the user, the one or more content items having associated features that match the one or more features of the short term profile. An alternative method comprises accessing one or more third party profiles that are not a profile of the user, and using the accessed third party profile to identify a plurality of content items for recommendation to the user based on a feature set of the third party profile.

The profile search engine obtains a target member by searching the user profile storage based on a profile query from a query user. The linkage construction engine constructs a relationship linkage and extracting an optimal path from at least two paths from the query user to the target member according to a relationship linkage. A member searching and analyzing method of social network is also disclosed.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for recommending digital content to a user of a digital content application based on continually learned patterns of behavior. Based on metrics collected from a current session of the digital content application, properties associated with one or more users interacting with the application are inferred. The inferred properties are matched against previously defined patterns of behavior to identify digital content that could be presented to the one or more users for optional selection.

Abstract: A client device, such as a digital video recorder, provides a phrase-based communication system in which users are presented with a dynamic messaging interface of selectable phrases and other elements. At least some of the phrases may be selected using algorithms that identify phrases that are likely to be useful to the particular user and/or the context in which the user is creating a message. In this manner, a user is able to generate useful messages quickly, without being limited to stale and fixed canned messages. Popular phrases may be identified by, for example, a server that relays based on messages exchanged between users. These popular phrases may then be harvested for use in the dynamic messaging interface. Moreover, context-sensitive metadata elements may be added to the dynamic messaging interface based on, for example, content that the user is currently viewing or about which the user is currently accessing information.

Photographs in a poster frame can be previewed by moving a cursor across the poster frame.

In one aspect, a configurable messaging system is provided. The system includes a configuration file to describe interface options of a computerized dialog session, wherein the configuration file specifies interface activities and state transitions between the interface options within the configuration file. A state controller executes the interface options during communications activities with the dialog session. The configuration file can also describe prompt elements to solicit information from users or applications.

Sensors are configured to sense user interaction within the 3-D coordinate system, so that a processor may receive user interaction information from the sensors. The sensors are able to provide information to the processor that enables the processor to correlate user interaction with images in the 3-D coordinate system. The system may be used for interconnecting or communicating between two or more components connected to an interconnection medium (e.g., a bus) within a single computer or digital data processing system.

A cursor over a selected element on the GUI is clicked to display a context window. When scrolling to a chosen option within the context window occurs, the entire context menu moves, thus keeping the selected element aligned next to a scrolled-to option in the context window.

Abstract: Users of a social networking system post questions for other users to answer. Questions are automatically tagged based on keywords extracted from text within the posted questions as well as user-selected tags. Users also browse questions asked by other users on the social networking system using an interface that displays questions by topics and sub-topics. Answers may be voted on and sorted by social information related to the browsing user. Affinities for tags are recorded based on users' interactions with the question and answer service. Affinities for tags may also be used to target questions to other users and sort answers.

Abstract: Electronic device with the user interface in which selectable items are shown on the display and can be selected by a user via an input component. A processor unit in the device organizes the selectable items in groups with a predetermined static sequence. The processor unit also maintains dynamic subgroups of preferred items. When the items in a group are being displayed in an available display area, the processor unit shows the subgroup of preferred items before the group of standard items. The first item in the group of standard items is highlighted and the user can either scroll towards the items in the subgroup of preferred items or to the standard items in the group.

Abstract: A digital asset management system and method is responsive to user interactions with digital assets. A ranking of digital assets is generated based upon user interactions, to reflect the value of the digital assets to the user. The ranking is based in part on access frequency and recency, and the number and types of uses of the digital assets. An access hierarchy is derived from the ranking, wherein higher ranked digital assets are more easily accessed than lower ranked digital assets. Different types of uses can be distinguished, so that some types of uses imbue an asset with greater value than others. The types of uses may include passive viewing or playback, file sharing, transport, and editing. Subjective values may be assigned by the user to each digital asset that can be factored into the ranking independently of usage patterns. A volatility-dampening attribute moderates volatility in the access hierarchy.

An apparatus may comprise a client computer having a processing system with a processor and computer-readable medium. The computer readable medium may store program instructions for a syndication manager component communicatively coupled to a content producing component arranged to be executed by the processor. The syndication manager component may be operative to receive syndication content from the content producing component, and provide a syndication dialog through the content producing component to syndicate the syndication content using a content delivery platform. The syndication manager component may also syndicate the syndication content to form a syndication resource accessible from the content delivery platform over a network using a syndication referent. Abstract: A method and device for temporally sequenced recommendations of activities delivers to users temporally sequenced objects comprising user activities, wherein the delivered objects are selected based, at least in part, on inferences of preferences from usage behaviors. The delivered objects may include activities associated with processor-based devices in addition to human activities. Variations of the system and method include delivering the temporally sequenced objects in accordance with the contents of the objects and user feedback with regard to the objects. Information as to why objects were delivered to users may be provided to the users.

The apparatus obtains, in reference to a table, the total number of times the character input key is to be pressed down before inputting an unconverted character included in each of the searched conversion candidates and immediately following the one or more characters. The table contains characters assigned to the total numbers of times the character input key is pressed down. The apparatus determines the order of display, on a screen of a display device, of the conversion candidates to align with a descending order of the total number of times the character input key is to be pressed down before inputting the unconverted character. On the screen, the conversion candidates are displayed in the determined order of display. The apparatus receives confirmation of one of the conversion candidates.

Abstract: Providing tracking information about events in a virtual world using a computer is presented including: causing the computer to provide a re-usable code portion, the re-usable code portion configured with a unique identifier and an address of an external data storage, causing the computer to configure at least a set of events to be tracked for sending information about tracked events to the external data storage; causing the computer to associate the re-usable code portion with a virtual object to be tracked in the virtual world. In some embodiments, methods are presented wherein the causing the computer to associate the re-usable code portion with the virtual object comprises causing the computer to integrate the re-usable code portion on a source code level into the virtual object.

The method includes expressing the learned preferred descriptive terms as a segmented probability distribution function having at least one fine grain segment and at least one coarse grain segment. In response to subsequent search input, the method calls for selecting and ordering a collection of content items by promoting the ranking of content items associated with the learned preferred descriptive terms of the user according to the differentiation provided by the segmented probability distribution function.

An electronic clinical document having embedded dictation audio and other data types can receive transcribed text corresponding to the embedded dictation audio.

A multi-level GUI that includes a “who” GUI operable to classify a photograph according to a proper name of a person appearing in the photograph and a “what” GUI operable to classify a photograph according to a name or genre of a subject associated with the photograph are provided. A user of the remote control navigates through levels of the GUI to classify photographs provided to the TV without having to manually type in text using alphabet keys.
