A gaze direction or a gaze depth is determined. While the gaze direction or the gaze depth is determined to correspond to a gaze at the affordance, a first input representing user instruction to take action on the affordance is received, and the affordance is selected responsive to receiving the first input.

Abstract: An online system receives information describing a collection of objects associated with a third-party system and an objective associated with each object. Upon receiving a request to present content associated with the third-party system to a user of the online system, the online system determines one or more groups in which each object is included based on a condition satisfied by objects included in each group. For each of multiple formats that may be used to present each group of objects, the online system computes a format score indicating a predicted likelihood that the user will perform a set of actions corresponding to a set of objectives associated with the group if the format is used. The online system selects a format for presenting each group of objects based on the format scores and/or a set of format selection rules and generates the user interface using the selected format(s).

Abstract: Method and system for the provision of interactive assistance over a network for a user to complete a desired computing task on a user computing device. Task-guides are generated on task-guide generators operating on author user devices. Each task-guide includes a sequence of processes, each process including an action for the user to perform in association with a graphical user interface (GUI) object displayed on the user computing device. The process obtains information about the GUI object using at least one data-gathering technique. An administrator operating on a server computing device receives a task-assistance request from a task-guide executor operating on an end user device, and sends back at least one suitable task-guide over the network. The task-guide executor executes the task-guide on the end user device, displaying a sequence of instructions for the end user to follow in order to complete the desired computing task.

Abstract: A system for synchronized streaming of media includes a memory and a processor. The processor is operable to establish connections with user applications executing on a plurality of user devices. The processor is further operable to identify a list of user tracks associated with one of the plurality of users stored in the memory. The processor is further operable to stream tracks from the list of user tracks to each of the plurality of user applications synchronously such that each of the plurality of user applications plays the same tracks at approximately the same time. The processor is further operable to receive at least one comment from one of the computing devices. The processors is further operable to send the at least one comment to a remainder of the plurality of computing devices for display through the user applications.

Abstract: A method for displaying a user interface (UI) in an electronic device having a touch screen is provided. The method receiving an input for executing the UI of a first user function. The method further includes, in response to the input, displaying the UI having an object associated with the first user function and first items associated with the first user function and arranged in a radial pattern around the object, and when an item is selected from the first items and is dragged to the object, executing the first user function in connection with the particular item.

Abstract: Enhanced contextual menu technology is disclosed herein. In an implementation, when a user selects content in a user interface to an application, a context associated with the content is identified. A child menu in a contextual menu hierarchy is then selected based on the context and is rendered in the user interface. In some implementations, the child menu includes a navigational element that links back to a parent of the child menu in the contextual menu hierarchy.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are a mobile terminal and a method for controlling the mobile terminal. The present invention includes a display; a sensor; and a controller configured to display content displayed on the display in a virtual area within the field of vision of a user and to display at least one thumbnail image through which a portion of the content exceeding a critical value is selected and played back when a disturbance value sensed through the sensor exceeds the critical value. According to the present invention, it is possible to provide thumbnail images through which a content portion having a high disturbance value can be played back during display of content.

The subset includes content items having the interest score within an interest score range. Indicia of the subset are provided for display.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for an adaptive search user interface is provided. The user interface allows for search results to be customized by the user. The user interface includes a discovery bar of multimedia content that includes additional media content, advertisements, and features that are recommended to users. The discovery bar of multimedia content is customizable based upon user command input. The user interface also includes methods and graphical interface in which to resolve recording conflicts.

Abstract: Context based menus are employed for content management through touch or gesture actions, keyboard entries, mouse or pen actions, and similar input. Context based menus may be deployed using a variety of shapes, forms, and content. Different actions and combinations of actions enable users to activate submenus, execute commands, or collapse context based menus. By enabling viewing of menus and execution of commands through context based menus positioned in relation to displayed content user experience is enhanced when interacting with user interfaces with limited display area.

Abstract: Methods and systems for facilitating the navigation of a list of content items with gestures are described. Consistent with some embodiments, a computing device detects simple gestures, and in response, display a preview of content items preceding, or following a currently selected content item, from the list of content items. Upon detecting a selection gesture, the computing device updates the view of the currently selected content item to display the newly selected content item.

Abstract: An “Interactive Word Lattice” provides a user interface for interacting with and selecting user-modifiable paths through a lattice-based representation of alternative suggested text segments in response to a user's text segment input, such as phrases, sentences, paragraphs, entire documents, etc. More specifically, the user input is provided to a trained paraphrase generation model that returns a plurality of alternative text segments having the same or similar meaning as the original user input. An interactive graphical lattice-based representation of the alternative text segments is then presented to the user. One or more words of each alternative text segment represents a “node” of the lattice, while each connection between nodes represents a lattice “edge. Both nodes and edges are user modifiable. Each possible path through the lattice corresponds to a different alternative text segment. Users select a path through the lattice to select an alternative text to the original input.

Abstract: A method and system that permits a user to navigate or browse a long list on a handheld device with a restricted user interface, such as a limited display and a limited user input device. The user first uses a coarse search to find a generally desired area in the list. Abstract: A method and hierarchical menu is provided for displaying on the screen of a wireless handheld electronic device an extended menu or a short menu, which is a subset of the corresponding extended menu. In some embodiments, a computing device may generate a user interface that presents a selectable control element. Subsequently, the computing device may receive input selecting the control element. In response to receiving the input selecting the control element, the computing device may update the user interface to present a ring that includes at least one band of icons. In addition, the ring may have a first portion that is visible and a second portion, different from the first portion, that is hidden. In some instances, the computing device then may receive a selection of an icon included in the at least one band of icons. Abstract: A segment ring menu is provided that is used to easily access menu items. The segment ring menu includes a number of menus that are located equidistant from an initial mouse position from where the segment ring menu is evoked. Hovering over any of the sections of the segment ring menu displays the menu items hosted in that section. The segment ring menu layout is directed at making it easy for the user to reach any of the menu items with a small amount of mouse movement.

Abstract: Embodiments of a multi-screen synchronous slide gesture are described. In various embodiments, a first motion input is recognized at a first screen of a multi-screen system, and the first motion input is recognized when moving in a particular direction across the first screen. A second motion input is recognized at a second screen of the multi-screen system, where the second motion input is recognized when moving in the particular direction across the second screen and approximately when the first motion input is recognized. A synchronous slide gesture can then be determined from the recognized first and second motion inputs.
