  • Patent number: 4665785
Abstract: A multiple station sequentially operating trim press is arranged to receive workpieces for subsequent transfer from a loading station to a treatment station by means of a pivotally mounted workpiece support. After trimming and deburring, the workpiece is transferred to a collection station and the workpiece support is moved to a cleaning station where its surface is washed free of residual trimmings. The workpiece support is then returned to its loading station and the sequence repeated.

  • Patent number: 4522095
Abstract: A punch for a cutting die is provided for forming holes in corrugated board or the like. The hole punch includes a tubular metal member of circular transverse cross section having one end substantially flush with the back surface of a die plate in which it is mounted and the other end extending beyond the front surface of the die plate and terminating in a circular cutting edge. A body of resilient material, preferably molded rubber, is located within the cylindrical member and has one end terminating near the back end of the tubular member and another end terminating near the cutting edge of the tubular member. The purpose of the body is to eject and strip the scrap of corrugated board from the punch and from the rest of the blank being formed by the cutting die. The resilient body has a central, cylindrical recess at one end which enables the resilient material to be deformed inwardly when engaging a corrugated board being cut by the circular cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4480507
Abstract: A cutting die assembly for cigar wrappers is manufactured by rigidly interconnecting a knife blade unit and a die assembly on a common carrier. The die assembly has an opening of particular shape bounded by a generally planar margin over which tobacco leaf may be draped. The knife unit is formed by shaping knife blade strip into a closed form to fit just inside the shaped margin of the die assembly with the knife edge just above same. The shaped knife blade strip is filled with a filling body interiorally to a height substantially below the cutting edge and is internally rigidified thereby. A suction air chamber is defined by the rigidly interconnected units and is bounded by the common carrier, the die assembly and the outer surface of the knife blade strip. Openings are provided through the margin of the die assembly to the suction air chamber to hold the draped tobacco leaf and stretch it over the knife edge.

  • Patent number: 4373413
Abstract: In apparatus for the placement and alignment of punch knives mounted in a knife holder on a punch press, a first swivel arm is pivotally supported at one end on a support for pivotal movement about a vertical axis. A second swivel arm is supported on the other end of the first swivel arm. The second swivel arm is a double-armed parallelogram member pivotally movable about a vertical axis and about horizontal axes at each of the opposite ends. A knife holder is pivotally connected to the parallelogram member at the opposite end from the first swivel arm. Due to the pivotal support of the two swivel arms and the pivotal connection of the knife holder, the knife holder can be moved along horizontal and vertical coordinates. A return member is associated with the second swivel arm for returning it into the horizontal position after the completion of a punching operation.

  • Patent number: 4369682
Abstract: A rotary die cutter comprises a rotary soft anvil coacting with a rotary hard anvil mounting one or more cutting rules, or forms. Each cutting rule has within the area defined by the rule a metal or metal-containing pusher adapted to be moved radially outwardly of the rule at a predetermined location by a magnetic source to eject from the rule any cut waste board contained therein.

  • Patent number: 4295436
Abstract: A cap lining machine includes a circular score cutter and an anvil to produce cap liners in a rapid and dust free manner. The machine is fed by two streams of caps. The first stream is a conventional gravity feed. The second stream indexes a cap into position with a worm screw. The two stream feed mechanism inputs two caps simultaneously to a rotatable plate having receiving pockets therein. The plate presents the caps to the score cutter/anvil cutting station. After the cap liners are formed they are inserted into the cap by a pusher element. The pusher includes an override spring to prevent damage to inverted caps. In order to further minimize dust the web of liner material is cut only after twelve liners have been cut. Critical portions of the machine are enclosed in a dust-free housing. Moving parts are automatically lubricated by a pump mechanism. The machine is able to produce and insert cap liners at a very high rate of speed and in a reliable and dust-free manner.

  • Patent number: 4224851
Abstract: A scrap knockout for use with a rotary punching apparatus includes a knife cylinder equipped with punch blades on the outer peripheral surface, and an anvil cylinder having a layer against which the blades are pressed, so as to punch a workpiece fed in between the two rotating cylinders. The scrap knockout is so arranged that each of the punch blades is formed with a cut or slot, and a scrap knockout lever is engaged with the cut or slot so as to be restricted in its upward and downward movements, with one end of the knockout lever is a free end located in the space surrounded by the punch blade and the other end is pivotally held by a punch blade support, so that the scrap formed by the punching can be removed by the upward motion of the lever.

  • Patent number: 4152959
Abstract: A hot shearing apparatus for shearing heated round or flat section bars or rods, in particular light metal bars, to obtain cut bars or billets comprises a drive unit, fixed and movable shearing members, a drive means for producing the shear forces, an abutment means, an ejector means, and a transfer means for the sheared billets. Shearing rings are used as the shearing members. The ratio of the diameter to the length of the shearing rings is greater than one. Thus the diameter is relatively large as compared to the length. This permits high quality cuts and, at the same time, trouble-free operation of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4030390
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting items, such as individual photographs, from a printed sheet comprising a sliding tray having a lower die to support the sheet and adapted to be moved into a housing containing an upper die. The lower die includes a series of male die members corresponding in shape to the individual photographs and the marginal area bordering the die members is spring loaded and biased to an upper position. The upper die has a series of recesses or female die members corresponding in shape to the male die members of the lower die. As the upper die is moved downwardly, the individual photographs are severed from the sheet by the shearing action of the cooperating die members.

  • Patent number: 3945280
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting threads, particularly threads formed of mineral substances such as glass, are disclosed. A rotating drum carrying a plurality of radially extending cutting blades operates in conjunction with a rotating support drum which carries and supports the thread for cutting by the cutting blades. Ejector elements carried by the cutting drum and positioned in the spaces between the cutting blades are urged radially outwardly by centrifugal force and compress the thread against the surface of the support drum. The ejector elements then serve to strip cut sections of the thread from between the blades as the cutting blades move away from the support drum. Compressed air is supplied to the spaces between the cutting blades to remove waste material resulting from the cutting operation.
