Abstract: An apparatus for manufacturing a plurality of cores from a workpiece. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a support structure for supporting the workpiece. A cutting assembly includes an arbor with a plurality of cutting blades spaced equidistant apart. Either one, or both, of the support structure and the cutting assembly may be move toward the other such that the cutting assembly engages the workpiece. As the cutting assembly engages the workpiece to cut the workpiece, the workpiece is rotated so that the blades of the cutting assembly cut the workpiece into the plurality of cores.

Abstract: An apparatus for slitting a running paperboard web includes a thin high speed rotary slitting blade that is plunged through the moving web and into a slot between a pair of anvil surfaces supporting the web on the opposite side. Because the slitting blade and the anvil surfaces are vertically separated and pre-positioned before order change, an adjustment apparatus is provided to spread the anvil surfaces apart to provide an open gap with a large target for blade edge when it is plunged through the web and into the slot. The anvil surfaces are then closed to bring the edges of the surfaces against the opposite faces of the blade for running operation. Preferably, the anvil surfaces are mounted on brackets hinged together below the surfaces to move the edges of the surfaces defining the slot between the opened and closed positions in the manner of a clam shell.

Abstract: A cutoff saw assembly incorporates a robot assembly with a compliant cutting apparatus to remove various undesired metal extensions from a casting. The assembly cooperatively and conjunctively controls the position of the casting using the robot assembly and the force exerted by the cutting apparatus on the casting using a compliance control system. The compliance control system includes a compliance actuator that is connected to a compliance regulator. Both the robot assembly and the compliance control system are connected to a system controller. The compliance actuator is connected to the cutoff blade to actively vary the force of the cutting blade with respect to the casting. The compliance regulator, which is connected to the system controller, will measure and regulate the pressure in the compliance actuator, such that the robot assembly and compliance control system can apply the required force to cut the casting.

An agitator confronting the stack of envelopes in the input bin reciprocally displaces the bottom envelope in the stack of mail to provide separation between the bottom envelope and the remaining envelopes in the stack. Abstract: An object of the invention is to provide a blade for cutting a copper foil being capable of further decreasing the amount of slivers generated at the time of processing, e.g., cutting, punching, and perforating a copper foil and also capable of making the size of the slivers smaller. To achieve the purpose, a disk-like blade to be employed for a copper foil-slitting apparatus is coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) or diamond-like carbon soft (DLC-soft) on at least a part to be brought into contact with a copper foil at the time of cutting. The coating reduces the unevenness of a blade surface, thereby providing a face being scarcely scratched with the copper foil. Subsequently, the amount of the slivers generated is remarkably decreased and the cutting property is improved.

  • Patent number: 5020578
Abstract: A woodworking apparatus includes a conventional table saw having a table and a projecting circular saw blade. A stock moving apparatus is associated with the saw table to move a piece of stock material into engagement with the saw blade. The stock moving apparatus includes a pair of longitudinal support members with a forward and rearward plate extending therebetween. The stock material is removably and selectively rotatably mounted between the forward and rearward plates. A guide is provided on the saw table to guide the stock moving apparatus in a straight line across the saw table. A pattern apparatus is provided to impart a particular shape in the stock material when the stock material is passed over the saw blade. The pattern apparatus includes a pair of spaced apart profile boards upon which the stock moving apparatus is supported during its passage over the saw table.

  • Patent number: 5016509
Abstract: The invention consists of a combination safety guide and measuring tool providing a safe, reliable means for advancing wood over or through table mounted wood working equipment, and in addition, providing a measuring tool for many important wood working problems. Among the unique features provided by this device are a conventional push tool, a means for measuring the distance of the cutting tool from the wood piece, and a means for accurately measuring the height of the cutting instrument. Because of the unique design of this invention, the worker can perform many measuring functions without the necessity of several measuring tools and, in addition, have a safe, reliable pushstick for moving the wood piece through the wood working equipment.

  • Patent number: 4957022
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for cutting a slit along the length of a pipe in such a manner that expansion of a diameter of the slitted pipe is possible without creating a gap at the slit. This is accomplished by advancing the pipe to be slit past a cutting edge that non-radially traverses the inner and outer circumferences of the pipe wall. In a preferred embodiment the cutting edge, which traverses the pipe wall, is positioned tangentially with respect to the inner circumference of the pipe wall and extends from the inner circumference to intersect the outer circumference of the pipe wall.

  • Patent number: 4802399
Abstract: The panel saw apparatus includes a pair of laterally spaced H-beams are attached. A first pair of leg portions of one H-beam have slots adjacent its ends so that this H-beam can, by means of bolts passing through the slots, be adjusted into a parallel relationship with the other H-beam. The second pair of leg portions of each H-beam each have a groove formed therein so that a strip portion of a rail member can be press-fitted therein. The rail members have shoulders that bear against the second leg portions of the H-beam with which they are associated. A carriage has wheels complementally grooved with respect to angled surfaces on the rail members thereby constraining the carriage for reciprocal movement. The carriage includes a turntable mounted for rotation with respect to a plate and its circular opening. An electric motor is mounted on one side of the turntable and a saw mount on the other side; a flexible belt extends through a segmental opening in the plate.

  • Patent number: 4697486
Abstract: Paperback books are fed one by one from a supply hopper to a stripper which separates the cover from the rest of the book and directs the book cover to a sorter; while directing the rest of the book for other disposition. A feed device receive each cover from the stripper and moves it to a sorter so that covers are spaced from each other a distance equal to the size of a bin of the cover sorter. Computer and electronic controls interconnect the supply feed, stripper and sorter, and include: a trigger, in the form of a notched wheel cooperating with a photocell circuit, to trigger required cover spacing; a senser to read UPC markings carried by the cover; and control and computer components to divert covers to appropriate sorting bins while counting the covers so sorted. Feed controls are provided to maintain cover feed through the sorter until all covers are sorted, even though feed of books from the supply hopper has ceased.

  • Patent number: 4681005
Abstract: A resaw has twin arbors with one to six blades mounted on each arbor. In addition, the resaw has a rotatable fence with a continuous belt along its periphery. Two side pressure rollers are mounted adjacent to the rotatable fence between an entrance to the resaw and the blades. A workbed of the resaw is made up of a series of spiked rollers. Just prior to an exit from the resaw, there is located a top roller which is mounted normal to the side pressure rollers and can move further away from or closer to the workbed. The arbors are each powered by an electric motor. The rotatable fence, the side pressure rollers and the spiked rollers are all powered by hydraulic motors connected to a single power source and all rotate at the same speed at any given time. The side pressure rollers are automatically adjustable so that they exert pressure towards the rotatable fence on any wood that is located between said rollers and said fence.
