Abstract: The present invention relates to shearing machine in which the upper shearing blade can be easily adjusted and positioned. The upper blade is held on a pivotal plate member which is pivotally held on a ram by means of a hinge to be rotated to adjust of the position of the upper blades. In addition, a hold down member is provided for holding a work-sheet. The hold down member is arranged to be urged by a toggle joint to hold the work-sheet at a reduced speed with an increased force after coming into contact with the work-sheet. A scrap removal member is also included in the shearing machine such that scraps can be easily removed without mingling them with the finished sheets. The scrap removal member removes scrap without idle time between feeding the work-sheets to be sheared. The shearing machine is so arranged that scraps are taken away directly to a scrap box as soon as the work-sheet has been complete sheared into its finished product.

Abstract: A guillotine type cutting machine wherein the length of cuts to be made in stacks of sheets determines the force with which a hold-down device bears upon a stack in the course of the cutting operation to prevent stray movements of the sheets. The force varies as a function of the length of the contemplated cuts and is regulated in such a way that the pressure of the hold-down device per unit area of a larger or smaller stack containing identical numbers and types of sheets is the same.
Abstract: A device for removing the perforated guide edges from computer paper by a shearing action. The computer paper is supported on a support plate of a first frame, with the line of perforations substantially aligned with a shearing edge provided on the distal end of the support plate. A shearing mechanism is slidably mounted for vertical movement in a second frame which is secured to the top of the first frame. The shearing mechanism includes a shear plate which is movable downward for engagement with the computer paper along the line of perforations where application of an additional force to the shear plate results in clearly shearing the perforated edges from the computer paper. Springs bias the shear plate upwardly for another shearing operation.

Abstract: Sheet material spread on a cutting table is clamped to the surface of the table by parallel flexible bands of ferromagnetic material attracted to the table by magnets associated with the table. The bands are threaded under and over rollers journalled on a tool carriage which moves a cutter wheel in cutting engagement with the sheet material in response to command signals received from a programmable computer. The rollers pick up portions of the bands ahead of the carriage assembly and lay down portions of the bands behind it as the carriage assembly advances longitudinally of the table.
Abstract: A method of punching a wheel for a pneumatic tire and wheel assembly manufactured with mounting holes offset from the geometric center to locate the low point of the first harmonic of radial runout adjacent a given angular location, such as the valve hole, so that, when a tire is mounted thereon with the high point of the first harmonic of radial force variation aligned with the valve hole, the respective harmonics cancel each other to provide a tire and wheel assembly with enhanced rotational characteristics. In an apparatus for forming the wheel mounting holes by axially reciprocating a piercing tool against a wheel disc while the bead seats are clamped between wheel locating jaws, axially opposed jaw pairs are centered on an axis offset from the axis of reciprocation such that the centerline of the mounting holes is correspondingly eccentrically offset from the average bead seat axis.

Abstract: Apparatus for cutting web material transversely to form sections has an arrangement for advancing the material a section at a time across a linear cutting edge. A linear guide parallel with the edge carries a circular blade which overlaps the linear cutting edge said blade being reciprocably driven along a linear guide. The advancing arrangement is timed to operate between the ends of the forward strokes and the beginnings of the reverse strokes of the circular blade and vice versa. A preliminary advancing arrangement is provided for advancing a measured amount of web material to form slack which is taken-up by advancement of the material across the linear cutting edge.

Abstract: A wedge lock unit is disclosed for clamping a subsystem chassis with two outwardly extending spaced apart flanges to a system main frame, from which a single flange or tab extends outwardly. The wedge lock unit includes a stationary member which is fixedly attached to one of the flanges of the subsystem chassis. The stationary member has two opposite wedged or sloping sides along which two movable wedging members with mating sloping sides rest. A drive mechanism, in the form of a rotatable screw, is used to apply a force, resulting in a clamping force, which urges the movable wedging members toward the tab of the main frame, which is inserted between the wedge lock unit and the other flange of the subsystem chassis, until the tab becomes clamped between the movable wedging members of the wedge lock unit and the other flange of the subsystem chassis. Spring means are provided which produce a reaction force on the movable wedging members. The reaction force direction is opposite the clamping force direction.
