    Abstract: An engine crankcase breather includes a housing having a lower end including an inlet opening and an upper end including an outlet opening. The inlet opening lies in a horizontal plane and the outlet opening lies in a vertical plane. A mesh filter is positioned within the housing and includes opposing inlet and outlet faces defining a mesh filter thickness. The inlet and outlet faces are parallel to the inlet opening and are positioned below a central axis through the outlet opening. A bottom wall of the housing defines a portion of the lower end and includes a downward slope toward a lip defining the inlet opening. The mesh filter is spaced above the bottom wall. The engine crankcase breather also includes a plurality of oil return openings through the lip.

The ceramic particles are bonded to adjacent ceramic particles with a strength sufficient to render the porous body self-supporting. The porous body may be manufactured by preparing a dispersion comprising the ceramic particles and a polymer matrix material in a solvent, removing the solvent by heating and/or evaporation, forming a preform of the dried material, and firing the preform to remove the polymer matrix material and bond the ceramic particles to each other. The porous body is useful as a filter element in a system adapted to remove nanoscale particles from a fluid stream.

    Abstract: An aircraft has a ventilation system that employs a plurality of nozzles positioned in a cavity between a sidewall of the aircraft cabin and a section of the aircraft fuselage. The jets of air produced by the nozzles create low-pressure areas in the cavity. At least one return air opening in the cabin sidewall communicates the low-pressure areas with the cabin interior, whereby the low pressure areas draw air from the cabin interior into the cavity where the drawn air is entrained with the jets of air produced by the nozzles. Devices inside the cavity remove suspended impurities from the air drawn into the cavity. In this manner, the ventilation system filters or sanitizes the air drawn through the system.

By controlling the diameters and lengths of the PET derived polyester fibers, a non-woven textile based filter media that exhibits a natural Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) of about 8 (without requiring electrostatic treatment) and a pressure drop of 2.9 PSI or less can be achieved. A related exemplary embodiment is an air filter fabricated entirely from recycled materials, including a recycled cardboard frame, the non-woven textile based filter media made from recycled PET derived polyester fibers, and a support structure made of recycled plastic or metal wire.

    Abstract: A dust screen for an inspection hatch disposed in the roof or a side wall of a dry bulk storage unit for use during pneumatic loading of aggregate material from a pneumatic trailer via air pressure ducted into the bulk storage unit. The dust screen includes an elastic cord in a hem surrounding an open end of the screen to secure the dust screen to the inspection hatch. An alternative embodiment may include a binding strap having a ratchet buckle to supplement the elastic cord. As the dust screen extends upward in the presence of said air pressure, the dust is allowed to settle into the storage unit. No separate container to contain the dust is required, and no separate structure is required to support the dust screen during operation. The dust screen is light weight, portable and reusable, and low in cost.
