  • Patent number: 6798813
Abstract: A method of minimizing contamination of optical components of a laser resonator is disclosed. The resonator components are located in an enclosure, which may contain contaminants including water vapor and organic favor released by the optical components, mounts of the optical components, or the enclosure itself. The enclosure may also contain suspended particulate matter. In order to reduce the level of these contaminants, a purging system extracts gas from the enclosure and passes the gas through a desiccant, an organic vapor trapping material, and a particulate matter filter then returns the extracted gas to the enclosure. The purging system is particularly useful for ultrafast lasers and ultraviolet lasers where the power of the laser radiation increases the probability of destabilizing reactions between laser radiation and contaminants.

Abstract: An air purification system comprised of a particulate filter element and activated carbon element that is secured to the vehicle's air inlet grille. Outside ambient air is therefore cleaned prior to it entering the vehicle's cabin. The air purification system is capable of removing allergens, dust, gasoline and diesel odors, particulates, and a wide range of other air pollutants. Purifying the ambient air as it comes into the vehicle's cabin promotes better health for the occupants and also keeps the interior of the vehicle clean. Changing the air purifying member is simple and relatively inexpensive.

Abstract: The filter construction includes a first portion that removes or reduces contaminants entering a disk drive enclosure from the external atmosphere and a second portion that removes or reduces contaminants present within the disk drive enclosure. Air exits the first portion in an area of the disk drive enclosure having a low air pressure. The second portion has an adsorbent filter, such as a recirculation filter, which allows air or gas to flow therethrough with little resistance. The filter construction has an exit positioned approximately parallel to the periphery of a disk in the disk drive enclosure, so that air exiting the filter construction is generally perpendicular to the air currents produced by the spinning disk.

  • Patent number: 6709493
Abstract: A venting device that reduces the moisture of an enclosure containing a heat source and prevents the entrance of water or other liquids and contamination from entering the enclosure. The moisture reducing device comprises a drying agent or desiccant which is adjacent to said heat source (such as an automotive headlamp bulb or thermally cycling device), an air-impermeable, water-vapor permeable layer, a vent that allows bulk flow of air during thermal cycling of the heat source and a internal diffusion tube or channel that limits the entrance of moisture vapor from the external atmosphere to the drying agent or desiccant. The air-impermeable, water vapor permeable layer allows for continuous diffusion of water vapor, reducing the moisture in the enclosure when the heat source is de-energized. The location of the device to the heat source regenerates the drying agent in the device when the heat source is energized.

The vent assembly includes screened ports disposed along a vertical axis of the vent assembly body that allow air to enter and exit the dehydrator breather. The vent assembly, along with a filter placed between a desiccant container and the valve housing, individually and jointly, prevent desiccant that escapes the desiccant container from clogging the valve assembly.

Abstract: An ion exchange scrubber has a housing, and a partition plate installed within the housing. The partition plate partitions an inner space of the housing in longitudinal direction into two chambers that are filled with a predetermined amount of aqueous solution. The upper end portions of the two partitioned chambers communicate with each other. At least one cartridge is installed at the upper portion and has an ion exchange resin. The ion exchange resin removes a harmful substance contained in the gas. By repeatedly pumping the aqueous solution from one side chamber to the other side chamber, and immersing and cleaning the contaminated ion exchange resin in the aqueous solution, the contaminated gas can be effectively processed even with a small amount of water.
