    Abstract: A large nozzle is provided which may be used in a distribution system comprising multiple nozzles to uniformly distribute fluid to an underlying surface. The nozzle is non-clogging, operates at very low spray pressures, and evenly distributes fluid over a wide area. The nozzle comprises a main body and an underlying dual pyramid shaped deflecting means. In operation, the nozzle produces multiple uniform flat planes of fluid. When used in a distribution system comprising a plurality of nozzles, the planes of fluid from one nozzle intersect with planes of fluid from other nozzles multiple times in all directions about the nozzle to disperse the fluid. The nozzle is also provided with a flow reducing insert means and a flow directing device. A novel method of fastening the large nozzle to the header pipe is also provided.

    Abstract: A spray nozzle to discharge liquid material in a pattern which has the same quantity of liquid material in each increment of the pattern. The nozzle may be used in various orientations in which a supply of pressurized liquid is available with the liquid being discharged generally in a lateral direction in relation to the path of movement of the nozzle thereby rendering the nozzle quite effective for use in discharging liquid fertilizer, growth retardant, insect sprays, orchard spray material and the like in an effective manner. In one embodiment of the invention, a nozzle is provided with a discharge passageway, a downwardly opening, inverted U-shaped extension of the passageway and a curved blade diffuser in the inverted U-shaped extension of the passageway to break up the liquid flow into droplets and to cause the droplets to be discharged in a lateral pattern so that a substantial equal quantity of liquid material is discharged in each increment of the path being traversed by the nozzle.

It also comprises a spray diffusion flange assembly extending from the pipe member adjacent each of the spray holes and further includes apparatus for impermanently attaching the diffusion flange to, and detaching the diffusion flange from, the pipe member, preferably to the exterior of the pipe member. These attachment and detachment steps are carried out without the use of auxiliary internal connecting apparatus which are not part of the diffusion flange structure.

    Abstract: A fire suppression system for use with ducts carrying corrosive gases has a multiplicity of sprinkler assemblies, each having an easily replaceable adapter with a sprinkler head having a fusible alloy fill. The head is screwed into one end of the adapter which has an integral flange at its opposite end. The adapter is inserted in a flanged nozzle which is part of the duct. The adapter flange is bolted to the nozzle flange which has a central opening adapted for connection to a source of extinguishing fluid. A continuous passage for fluid is provided through the adapter and the flanges together with a passage through the sprinkler head, the latter being opened when the system is activated. Only the face of the adapter and a small protruding portion of the sprinkler head are exposed to the corrosive gases. The sprinkler head has a corrosion-resistant body and has a central passage containing a seal plug and a fusible fill at opposite ends and a piston between the fill and the plug.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a fluid nozzle wherein the formation of eddy currents is reduced to a minimum in the area of laminar flow and the velocity of the fluid is increased to a maximum. This is accomplished by the use of a convergent nozzle wherein the fluid is accelerated and pressure is decreased, then directed over an atomizing body having a convex outer surface where the fluid is allowed to expand and increase its velocity with a further reduction in pressure. Protrusions in the form of a plate or other projections extend from the surface of the convex outer surface to produce fluid flow detachment, separation and high velocity fluid spraying. Adjustment means are provided whereby the axial distance between the nozzle orifice and the atomizing body can be varied according to the desired fluid flow patterns.

    Abstract: One piece spray structures can be constructed so as to include a body shaped so as to hold a slotted nipple which directed toward a deflecting surface in the body. The body is preferably integral with a stake capable of supporting the body and the nipple in such a manner that when a tube is located on the nipple water will pass form the tube against the deflecting surface and be deflected outwardly away from the body. Diverging side walls are located along the deflecting surface so as to define a control slot through which the water has to pass in combination with the end of the tube on the nipple and the deflecting surface. If desired walls may be located so as to overhand the cavity generally above the defecting surface. Several nipples may be located on the body. When this is done preferably each nipple is used so as to distribute water differently than the other nipple on the body.

In this manner one or a number of orifices may remain blocked making it possible to, for example, water a thirty degree arc, skip sixty degrees, water another thirty of sixty degree arc, etc. Many such patterns become possible.

Hot water is initially passed downwardly through the conduit for impingement on the target structure, which serves to create a relatively even dispersal of water over a large area beneath the target, thus enhancing cooling of the water.

The particulate material may be fed into the feeder entrained in air. The material leaving the second spreader is uniformly distributed and may form a hollow curtain of uniformly distributed particulate material. The curtain may fall into a spray mixing vessel, and a circular baffle may contain the curtain.

Precise spray direction is achieved by relative rotation between the tabs and serrations. A seal is fitted in the housing so as to surround the riser and so as to engage the riser as it is moved upwardly to extended sprinkling positions.
