  • Patent number: 7545800
Abstract: Narrowband subscriber terminals (40,52,58) of different narrowband networks are interconnected via a broadband network (48) that supports dissimilar signaling protocols to those maintained on the respective narrowband networks (40,52,58). A call server in a first narrowband network (40), in response to a call (100) from a first subscriber terminal (12) to a second subscriber terminal (68) in a second but different narrowband network (52), selects a phantom trunk (202) between the two networks. The phantom trunk has a unique circuit identity, which circuit identify is used in a first instance to relay to the second network an address of the second subscriber terminal (68). Then, in a second instance, the unique circuit identify is used to relay to the second network an address of the first subscriber terminal (68).

  • Patent number: 7539220
Abstract: The invention provides a data discard signalling procedure in a wireless communication system. If data is discarded by the transmitter, the transmitter needs to notify the receiver of the discard. A shortened move receiving window super-field is used to request the receiver to move its reception window and optionally to indicate the set of discarded RLC SDUs, as a result of an RLC SDU discard in the sender. A move receiving window acknowledgement super-field acknowledges the reception of a MRW SUFI. If various criteria are met, the SDU discard with explicit signalling procedure can be efficiently terminated resulting in increased transmission throughput. Utilizing the data discard signalling procedure of the present invention, transmission throughput is increased and the transmission performance is improved.

  • Patent number: 7535846
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for handling inter-RAT cell measurement in a dual-mode UE in a connected mode, which supports both GSM/GPRS (Global System for Mobile communication/General Packet Radio Service) RAT (Radio Access Technology) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) RAT. A UTRAN (UMTS Terrestrial Radio Access Network) of the UMTS RAT transmits a measurement control message to a URRC (UMTS Radio Resource Control) of a UMTS network layer in the UE. Upon receiving the measurement control message, the URRC sends a measurement request for GSM cells to an RR/GRR (Radio Resource/GPRS Radio Resource) of a GSM/GPRS network layer. The RR/GRR activates a GSM physical layer and sends a measurement request for the GSM cells to the GSM physical layer. The GSM physical layer performs measurement on the GSM cells and reports a measurement value to the RR/GRR. The RR/GRR reports the measurement value for GSM cells, received from the GSM physical layer, to the URRC.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for synchronizing a database related to a first node in a network with multiple nodes. Each node includes a database different from a database on a different node. An inquiry control message is sent to each node in a candidate set of one or more nodes on the network, which are different from the first node. In response to the inquiry control message, the first node receives a first set of one or more messages from a particular node different from the first node. The first set indicates a portion from the database of the particular node. The portion is relevant for the first node. A particular portion of a first database for the first node is derived from the first set of messages. The particular portion is less than all of the first database. These techniques allow the first node to derive its full database from multiple adjacent nodes.

Abstract: A system for key management in sensor networks which takes the location of sensor nodes into consideration while deciding the keys to be deployed on each node. This system reduces the number of keys that have to be stored on each sensor node and also provides for the containment of node compromise. Thus compromise of a node in a location affects the communications only around that location. The location dependent key management system does not require any knowledge about the deployment of sensor nodes. The system starts off with the loading of a single key on each sensor node prior to deployment. Subsequent to deployment a plurality of beacons is transmitted a plurality of different transmission ranges from each anchor node, said beacons containing at least one nonce. Each sensor node receives beacons depending upon its location in the network.

Abstract: An arrangement that allows transmission of client signals with higher clock fidelity is achieved by developing a phase offset measure at an ingress node, communicating it to the egress node, and recovering the client's clock from the received data and from the received phase-offset information. The ability to recover the client's clock with high fidelity is enhanced by adaptive pointer processing in intermediate nodes and the egress node of the network that the client's signal traverses. The adaptive pointer processing filters incoming pointers from upstream nodes and injects new positive and negative pointer justifications in excess of what is minimally necessary to allow them to be filtered by successive nodes and insure proper transmission over a network that employs a protocol involving framing layer frames embedded in communication layer frames. Illustratively, the network protocol is an extended ITU Recommendation G.709 Digital Wrapper protocol, arranged to employ frames of 15240 columns by four rows.

The interface translates messages from either the communications bus or the UWB wireless network adapter so that a software stack is not needed to perform the translation at a later time. This helps to maintain the computer's reliability and performance. The system and method also affords wireless connectivity without the presence of a computer system.

Abstract: Systems and methods for conveying multiple low-bit-rate data streams over a data transport medium which is configured to transport data in a single, high-bit-rate data stream. In one embodiment, a plurality of low-bit-rate signals are received and a corresponding data rate is determined. Each of the signals is formatted in frames comprising a payload and overhead data. The high-bit-rate signal is also formatted in frames comprising a payload and overhead data, but the frames (including payload and overhead) contain more bits than those of the low-bit-rate frames. The payloads of the low-bit-rate frames are mapped into the payloads of the high-bit-rate frames. The overhead and timing data of the low-bit-rate frames are mapped into the unused portion of the overhead of the high-bit-rate frames. After the high-bit-rate signal is transported, the payload, overhead and timing data of each of the low-bit-rate signals is extracted, and the corresponding signals are reproduced.

Abstract: A transmission system for RF signals, power and control signals over RF coaxial cables is disclosed. A coaxial cable line interconnects two devices, such as an instrument and a remote coupler. A control signal (e.g., data bit) and RF signals are multiplexed onto the coaxial cable line using a bias network at each end of the coaxial cable. In certain embodiments, power is generated at the coupler based on the state of the control bits. Each coaxial cable carries one control bit on the center conductor of the cable. A table maps the states of the one or more control bits to the desired states in the remote coupler. The all-zeroes state for the control bits is disallowed, such that at any given time, at least one of the control lines is high (e.g., at +5V). A passive network at the coupler generates the power voltage for the coupler from the control bits. In further embodiments, a power supply filter is provided at the coupler to supply power to the coupler during transitions of the passive network.
