  • Patent number: 7832032
Abstract: A multipurpose sleeping bag has an opening in the center that can be drawn around one's neck in an over garment mode, or closed in a sleeping bag mode. A draw cord is employed to compress a foot portion and, optionally, a foot draft tube, into a knot-like configuration for the sleeping bag mode. For operations other than the sleeping bag mode, the foot portion is left open to form a skirt-like configuration. Another embodiment configures a multipurpose hypothermia sleeping bag, which includes flap panels positioned on the top side thereof to provide an opening for IV or catheter administration to a hypothermia patient. Each flap panel can also accept a heating device. Chest and back pockets, respectively above and below the head opening, accept heating devices to provide warmth while using the sleeping bag in an over garment mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 7811243
Abstract: A system and method for applying therapeutic forces to the vertebrae contained within a section of a patient's spine. The system utilizes a flexible pressure blanket having two ends and both a top surface and a bottom surface that extend between those two ends. A patient is asked to lie in a supine position on an elevated platform. The flexible pressure blanket is draped over the patient, wherein a central section of the flexible pressure blanket contacts the patient and end sections dangle freely on opposite sides of said patient. Weight elements are attached to the flexible pressure blanket to effect therapeutic forces upon the spine of the patient. The weight elements can be attached in-line with individual vertebrae in the spine. In this manner, forces acting in different directions can be experienced by the spine, thereby manipulating the spine from the benefit of the patient.

  • Patent number: 7802334
Abstract: The pest proof bed cover apparatus provides a flexible, sealable, bug proof cover for both a mattress and a mattress support, such as typical box springs. The first end of the cover provides a zipping lock that properly seals against pest invasion and escape. Importantly, the apparatus also provides a properly supported fan mechanism for evacuating inside the cover so that air is removed from the mattress, mattress support, and from around and between the two, thereby suffocating pests. Additionally, pesticides can be used within the cover for even more positive pest control. The apparatus is cost effective in providing both pest control and in providing a means for sanitarily storing and transporting mattresses and mattress supports.

The removable mattress sheet covers the core and includes a breathable material that forms a hammock over a depression in the top surface. The subject rests at least partially on the hammock. One or more sidewalls of the mattress depression may have one or more openings to facilitate air circulation within the depression. The external ends of the openings may connect to an air or aerosol source to inject air or aerosols into the depression cavity. The core may be coated with a fire retardant, impermeable water-proofing or gas impermeable layer. A ventilator may be adapted within the mattress.

  • Patent number: 7787726
Abstract: A blanket or article of wearing apparel for a subject such as an infant. A fiber optic temperature sensing element is integrated into the fabric by a process such as weaving. The temperature sensing element is a optic fiber having inscribed therein one or more fiber Bragg grating sensors such that a light is introduced into the optic fiber and that light directed onto the subject at a grating interface. A return light signal is received, either by a reflectance mode or a transmission mode, where the return light signal has a wavelength shift indicative of the temperature of the subject by Bragg resonant effect. Higher temperature sensitivity is obtained with a metal material of a high thermal expansion coefficient that is coated around the fiber sensor cladding.
