Abstract: A fuel assembly spacer grid including swirl deflectors respectively arranged at interconnections between interconnecting longitudinally and laterally-extending straps on upper ends of the interconnecting straps adapted to support fuel elements of a nuclear fuel assembly. Each of the swirl deflectors has four vanes bent to have an air vane shape. By virtue of this configuration, an improvement in the efficiency of the spacer grid cooling the fuel elements. The spacer grid also includes springs each configured to generate not only a main spring force caused by a displacement of the spring occurring when the spring comes into contact with a fuel element placed in a reactor core, but also an additional spring force caused by hydraulic pressure applied to the spring. Each spring, which is in a fixed state at one end thereof, has a free bent portion at the other end.

Abstract: A plasticating screw having improved mixing capability for polymer blends comprises a feed zone having a helical flight defining a solid material feed path, a compression zone for converting the solid material into molten material having a helical channel of variable depth, a waved melting zone for breaking up solid agglomerations and distributing them equally in the liquid melt, a spiral mixing zone that traps large agglomerations and contaminants, and a second melting zone for completing melting the material and for creating a substantially homogeneous melt. A method for mixing plastic material that has been at least partially plasticized and contains inhomogeneities is also described.
Abstract: A process is provided for obtaining diterpene glycosides which process extracts such diterpene glycosides from plant or botanical material so as to provide a product which is high in content of such diterpene glycosides, and substantially free of bitter tasting tannins. This advantageously provides a product which can be used as a sweetener material.
Abstract: Disclosed is an alloy steel of high corrosion resistance to hot molten salts containing chlorides and/or alkali oxides. The alloy steel is manufactured from a composition comprising 20-40 weight % of Ni, 0-8 weight % of Cr, 0.05 weight % or less of C, 0.5 weight % or less of Si, 1.0 weight % or less of Mn, 0.05 weight % or less of S, and the balance of Fe to total weight. With a low Cr content, the alloy steel is superb in the corrosion resistance to chloride and/or alkali oxide-containing molten salts, including LiCl—Li2O. Also, the alloy steel shows stable corrosion resistance to molten salts even at high temperature as well as low temperature in addition to being superior to workability. Thus, the alloy steel can be processed into plates, bars or pipes which are used for structural materials and structural components for treating molten salts.

Abstract: On a container for collecting contaminated liquids which has container walls surrounding the base of the container or on a collecting vat for liquid dielectric of a transformer, at least one detachable container part being joined to the collecting container in a liquid tight manner, or at a joining area for two parts that are tightly assembled but detachable from each other, at least one monitoring chamber (46) is provided between the parts (56, 58) that are tightly assembled. The monitoring chamber (46) is connected to a current source at one end and to pressure monitoring device at the other end. The detachable container part (58) should be joined to a section (56) of the collecting container so as to form at least one chamber-like hollow (46). The hollow which serves as a monitoring chamber is tightly bordered by scaling elements (60c) and by the surface of the detachable container part and by the surface of each section of the collecting tank which run between the sealing elements.
Abstract: An apparatus and process for injecting molten plastic material includes a nozzle assembly through which plastic material flows and including a nozzle body with a heater affixed thereto. A mold cavity plate is positioned adjacent the nozzle body and is separable from the nozzle body so that separation of the mold cavity plate from the nozzle body exposes the nozzle body and permits removal of the nozzle body and the heater.
Abstract: A process and catalyst for the conversion of contaminants in an oxygen containing contaminated stream comprises passing the oxygen containing contaminated stream over a photocatalyst comprising titanium, zirconium and silica while irradiating the foregoing catalyst with ultraviolet light.
Abstract: A substrate with an organic undercoat as bonding layer for a printing medium to be deposited subsequently on the substrate in a printing process is such that the organic undercoat contains fine grained constituents of organic and/or inorganic substances, whereby the surface of the inorganic constituents is treated or provided with a coating of organic substances. Suitable inorganic constituents are e.g. highly dispersed silica, the surface of which is treated with a resin or a polymer. Suitable compositions for the organic undercoat layer on the substrate are organic coatings based on many commercially available organic coating materials with an addition of e.g. 0.3 to 20 wt. % silica. By adding highly dispersed silica to the undercoat the adhesion between the undercoat and the printing medium can be greatly improved, also in the case of laser printing methods with small thermal energy.
Abstract: In a drainage system for a conduit having a conduit inflow and a conduit outflow, the intention is that at least one drainage obstacle which can be moved in the direction of flow (X) is provided for limiting, directing, regulating or influencing a stream of water.
Abstract: A multi-layer preform, includes: (a) a plastic inner liner, comprised of a cylindrical walled body, which may or may not include a tapered annular shoulder portion, and a cylindrical walled neck portion extending upwardly from the body, and (b) a molded outer layer. Prior to the outer layer being molded over the plastic inner liner, at least a portion of the liner is crystallized by a heat treatment process. The molded outer layer may include a means to receive a closure device. When the preform is at an acceptable temperature range for orientation, the multi-layer preform can be blow-molded to form a multi-layer container having improved properties.
