Abstract: A tangential on board injector with auxiliary supply of further cooled compressed air, from an external heat exchanger or air cooled bearing gallery for example, serves to reduce the volume of cooling air directed tangentially toward a cooled rotor of a gas turbine engine. The tangential on board injector has an array of injector blades between two injector walls defining circumferential main flow nozzles for directing a main compressed air flow tangentially. Each blade has an interior chamber in flow communication with a source of auxiliary compressed air with at least one bore extending between the chamber and an exterior surface of the blade. The bores eject further cooled air from the heat exchanger and merge with the primary compressed air flowing through the injector nozzles. The bores may also produce a cooling film of air that reduces drag over the injector blades.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a seamless self-supporting metal part using nickel vapor deposition, where the part has a selected minimum thickness, a first aerodynamically contoured surface and a second substantially parallel surface. The method replaces labor intensive welding of individually manufactured sheet metal segments for complex aerodynamic shapes, and produces a part with higher accuracy, less cost, controlled strength and hardness properties. Nickel vapor deposition is commonly used for plating electronic components, and for producing a metallic lining for plastic injection moulds. The seamless sheet metal part is cast by: fabricating a mould with at least one mould surface being a negative of the first surface of the part; enclosing the mould in a nickel vapor deposition chamber; depositing nickel on the mould surface by nickel vapor deposition until a blank of nickel is deposited having at least the minimum thickness and an external deposition surface; and separating the blank from the mould.

Abstract: Plastic articles, especially plastic optical lenses are tinted by immersing the plastic article in an aqueous dispersion of tinting agent and exposing the dispersion and immersed article to microwave radiation to bring the dispersion to ebullition; the ebullition is maintained for at least 2 seconds with transfer of tinting agent from the dispersion to the article to tint the article; the tinted article is removed from the dispersion and rinsed with water. The method achieves tinting in significantly shorter times than conventional methods and employs water-based dispersions thereby avoiding emission of vapors of organic solvents.
Abstract: A method and a device for laser joining of plastics or for joining plastics to other materials, which are brought into contact with pressure, with the workpiece closest to the laser beam source being largely transparent for the laser beam, and the second workpiece being as absorbent as possible. By producing a laser beam shaped in the form of a line on the contact surface between the workpieces and by a relative movement of the laser beam relative to the workpieces, designed according to the desired joint seam structure, the workpieces are bonded together accurately only in the desired joining areas. This permits a highly accurate bonding with the smallest possible joint seam distances, so that even parts for micro-systems engineering can also be produced with a short cycle time.

Abstract: With a turbo machine comprises a trunnion portion and an airfoil portion, the airfoil portion is defined by a leading edge, a trailing edge, and a pair of side edges. One or more of the side edges comprises a fin which extends from proximate to the trunnion portion toward the trailing edge of the airfoil portion. The fin tapers in thickness from the trunnion portion to the trailing edge portion. The fin may extend above and/or below the top and bottom surfaces of the airfoil. The fin may be formed on a portion of one or both of the side edges.
