Abstract: A method of manufacturing a composite wall with an open cell metal foam core layer bonded to an inner cladding layer and an outer cladding layer. The method involves: creating a core substrate of open cell gas permeable foam in a chosen shape; impregnating the open cell foam substrate with metal vapour and depositing a porous layer of metal on exposed internal and external surfaces of the substrate thereby forming the open cell metal foam core through metal vapour deposition; and forming the inner and outer cladding layers upon the metal foam core through spray application of metal or ceramic.

Abstract: A subsequence matching method in time-series databases, reduces the number of points stored in the multidimensional index and can store individual points directly in the index by dividing the data sequence into disjoint windows using duality in constructing windows. The method reduces false alarms and improves performance by searching the index using the individual points that represent sliding windows of the query sequence and by comparing the points used in the query and the points stored in the index. Moreover, the method can create the index much faster than the previous method by reducing the number of calls to the feature extraction function that is a major part of CPU overhead in the index creation.

Abstract: A method for repairing a turbine blade having a crack in a trailing edge portion of the blade includes the steps of cutting back a first surface of the turbine blade adjacent the blade trailing edge portion where the crack is located, and cutting back a second surface of the turbine blade adjacent the blade trailing edge portion where the crack is located. Each cut back step comprises cutting back the respective surface by a depth greater than the length of the crack and less than the trailing edge radius to remove the crack and form a cut back trailing edge portion. A compound radius is used to prevent a blunt transition into the trailing edge that would result in aerodynamic losses and to reduce the airfoil root stresses. The method also includes applying a thermal barrier coating to the turbine blade to increase service life. Prior to applying the coating, the tip portion of the turbine blade is modified to account for the change in the thermal characteristics of the turbine blade.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved attachment air inlet configuration for a turbine blade. It defines several modifications that reduce attachment rib concentrated stresses in highly loaded, single crystal turbine blades that cause cracking in conventional blade inlet configurations. It desensitizes rib concentrated stresses to variations in secondary crystal orientation, permitting highly loaded single crystal blades to have random secondary crystal orientation for lower cost, or seed with any secondary orientation needed to solve other blade or manufacturing problems.
