  • Patent number: 5611582
Abstract: An impact resistant armature has an armature plate defining a stepped bore therethrough. The stepped bore defines a shoulder. A mounting assembly having an expanded head portion and a reduced shank portion is positioned in the bore, with the shank portion anchored to the vertical face of a door. The mounting assembly supports the armature assembly in a first position wherein the head portion and the shoulder define an initial gap. Upon impact by an intense force, the armature plate is movable to a second position wherein the head portion and the shoulder engage while the armature retains a bonded relationship with the electromagnet.

  • Patent number: 5609483
Abstract: A process for documenting the position of a dental casting model relative to the mold surface is distinguished by the fact that the position of the model on the gate molder is pictorially recorded prior to it being embedded. This is expediently done simultaneously to the pictorial fixing of a marking which reproduces the position of the surface of an assigned mold in relation to the cast object or to the gate molder. This can be a marking which is physically connected to the gate molder. However, it can also be contained in the recording instrument or stored in the analyzing unit of the recording instrument. Where different sizes are used, the assignment of the respectively pertinent marking to the gate molder of predetermined size can be realized automatically.

  • Patent number: 5606881
Abstract: A key operable electrical safety switch includes a housing and a switch operator that is operated by an actuator. A slot in the housing receives the actuator. A plurality of pin stacks, the stacks having axes that are parallel and perpendicular to the slot, are spring biased to extend into the slot. At least one of the pins engages the actuator to lock it in a fixed position relative to the housing. The actuator is released from the locked position, and displaced a predetermined stroke to actuate the switch operator and thereby change the state of the switch contacts, by a key. The key has a coded pattern of pin receiving holes corresponding to the locking pins to align the pins and release the actuator. The pins are correspondingly codeable.

  • Patent number: 5608298
Abstract: An electronic lock assembly mounts to the opposite sides of a door to provide an electronically operable level of security. An electronic reader generates a signal which is employed to control the operation of a conventional latch installation. A card reader, key pad or contact activatable data port generates a signal to actuate a motor to disengage a locking dog to thereby allow rotation of the latch handle. The motor shaft is connected to a drive screw by a coil spring to permit proper operation if a jamming condition is present. A privacy switch may be operated by an occupant of the room to block actuation of the motor, thereby denying entry to the room. A permanent magnet mounted in the door frame activates a reed switch on opening of the door, disabling the privacy switch and preventing inadvertent disablement of the electronic lock when the room is not occupied.

  • Patent number: 5606825
Abstract: A muzzle loading firearm having a tubular receiver for retaining an axially movable hammer and a cocking handle assembly for moving the hammer to a cocked position. The hammer has a first body portion having a laterally extending slot and an engagement portion for receiving and engaging the sear. The cocking handle assembly is comprised of a cocking handle block disposed in the hammer slot and a cocking handle. A cocking handle return spring biases the cocking handle assembly towards a forward position. A hammer spring biases the hammer towards the percussion cap. The hammer is cocked by moving the cocking handle assembly to a rear position against the force of the cocking handle return spring. The rear surface of the cocking handle block engages the rear surface of the hammer slot, moving the hammer to the limit of rearward travel and allowing the sear to be received by the hammer engagement portion.

  • Patent number: 5605474
Abstract: An electrical harness employs a flexible twisted wire of circular cross-section formed from a multiplicity of electrically conductive strands. Electrical connectors are secured to the wire at equidistantly spaced positions along the length of the wire. Each connector is an integral one-piece structure having a center section and two wing sections. Each connector is crimped in position by folding the wing sections over the wire such that the wire is sandwiched between the center section and the wing sections. A transverse orifice extending through the connector and the wire facilitates forming an electrical connection between a threaded terminal and the wire.

  • Patent number: 5603435
Abstract: A hand-held repointing gun has an inclined feed chamber, which receives the material to be applied, and a driven feed screw which conveys the material from the chamber to an applicator nozzle. The discharge end of the nozzle defines an axis which is oriented at an angle with respect to the chamber whereby gravity feed of the material to the nozzle supplements the delivery action of the feed screw to minimize power consumption of the feed screw drive mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5604587
Abstract: The chemical properties of an aqueous liquid, the liquid comprising a solvent having an index of refraction which is the same as or closely approaches that of water, are determined by Raman spectroscopy wherein a sample of the liquid is delivered into an optical waveguide. The waveguide is in the form of a capillary having a reflective surface defined by a material having a refractive index of less than 1.33. Excitation light is transmitted axially into the liquid at an end of the waveguide. The excitation light is transmitted the length of the waveguide, by reflection from the reflective surface, causing the fluid to emit Raman spectra. The Raman spectra is transmitted along the waveguide, collected and delivered to a spectrometer.

  • Patent number: 5603827
Abstract: A filter element, for use in a plate filter press for example, includes a membrane supported from a plate and captured, about the periphery of an opening in the plate, by a clamping ring which locates a shaped edge bead on the membrane in a complementary shaped groove in the plate. The clamping ring has a bearing surface, which contacts a surface of the membrane edge bead which is oppositely disposed with respect to the portion thereof which cooperates with the groove in the plate, having an angle of inclination with respect to the plane of the plate which directs forces produced by pressure induced expansion of the membrane to the clamping ring in a generally radial direction with respect to the axis of the opening in the plate.

  • Patent number: 5602624
Abstract: A printer for adding accent colors to preprinted documents includes a transport which defines a curvilinear path along which the documents move during the printing of the accent colors thereon. The printing is accomplished through the use of multiple print heads which discharge wax based ink through multiple jets. The documents to which the accent colors are to be added are edge justified and then released in timed sequence to the curved transport path which leads through a printing zone defined by the print heads.

  • Patent number: 5600529
Abstract: An electromagnetic lock employs a pre-wound bobbin which is forced onto the E-shaped lamination stack of a magnetic core. The housing is configured in two longitudinal sections which are relatively pivotal to provide access for circuitry within the housing for both an outswinging and an inswinging door lock installation. The electromagnet also employs a circuit to sense the power supply to the electromagnet and to automatically select the operating voltage of the electrical coil.

  • Patent number: 5597314
Abstract: A ground clamp for clamping to a cable shield to provide a ground connection employs a U-shaped yoke. A keeper has a driver which threadably engages thread surfaces at the interior side of the yoke legs. The keeper has a clamp jaw which may be compressively engaged against a cable shield received in an aperture defined by the yoke. A surface of the clamp jaw and a surface of the driver have complementary radially extending projections and grooves, respectively. The projections are received by the grooves when the clamp jaw engages the cable shield to resist relative movement between the driver and the clamp jaw. The yoke then connects to a common ground point via a flexible ground wire connection. A protective shoe may be inserted between the cable conductors and the clamp jaw to prevent crushing of the connectors.

  • Patent number: 5595858
Abstract: A photosensitive insulation bonding layer is formed on a conducting layer. The photosensitive insulation bonding layer is subjected to exposure treatment to produce an exposed area and an unexposed area. Another conducting layer is formed on the outer surface of the photosensitive insulation bonding layer which has undergone the exposure treatment, then both conducting layers are photoetched to produce desired wiring patterns. In the next step, the unexposed area is removed from the photosensitive insulation bonding layer by development so as to form an access opening for connecting a circuit component to the wiring patterns. Then, the exposed area of the photosensitive insulation bonding layer is turned into an insulating layer by curing.
