Abstract: An image-taking apparatus is disclosed which enables the accuracy of re-performance determination of in-focus search control to reliably maintain an in-focus state in response to a condition change after focusing is achieved. The image-taking apparatus comprise a first detector which outputs a focus evaluation value signal and a second detector which outputs a detection signal different from the focus evaluation value signal. The image-taking apparatus comprises a controller which performs a first control for controlling drive of the focus lens such that an in-focus position of the focus lens is searched for on the basis of the focus evaluation value signal. The controller obtains shift information which represents a shift state from an in-focus state based on the detection signal from the second detector after the first control, and performs processing associated with the re-performance of the first control based on at least the shift information.
Abstract: In a digital still camera, it is cumbersome for the camera user to set an image photographing method and saving method of the photographed image, which are suitable for each object. When a photographing mode suitable for a moving object such as a “sports mode” is set, normal photographing is done, and the photographed image is lossless-compressed and saved. When a photographing mode suitable for a still object such as a “portrait mode” is set, a high-resolution image is captured by pixel shift photographing. The photographed image is lossy-compressed and saved.

Abstract: This invention has as its object to prevent a conventional problem in that the focal point position cannot be determined before and after an in-focus point, even in a slow shutter mode. To this end, a camera control microcomputer of a video camera determines the drive amount of a focus lens for one field in accordance with the rotation angle of a manual focus dial when the shutter speed is 1/60 sec, 1/30 sec, or 1/15 sec, and controls a focus compensation lens driver and focus compensation lens motor to drive the focus lens by the determined drive amount in a direction corresponding to the detected rotation direction of the manual focus dial.
