  • Patent number: 4346395
Abstract: A light detector device comprises at least one pair made up of a light sensitive photodiode and a light signal reading MIS transistor switch. The pair is formed on an insulating substrate such as sapphire. The source region of the MIS transistor switch is contiguous with a photosensitive pn junction of the photodiode. The source, drain and channel regions of the MIS transistor switch reach the insulating substrate, thereby reducing the area of pn junction of the MIS transistor and hence the junction capacitance so that high signal output is available from the photodiode with high S/N ratio.

  • Patent number: 4346473
Abstract: In typical error correction coding techniques for use in multilevel signalling schemes, such as M-level QAM signalling, the full data stream is encoded. In order to eliminate the need for such extensive coding while still allowing for accurate decisions as to the received data, the present system and method provide techniques for only encoding the lower significance bits of the multi-bit signal. The more significant bits are left uncoded. Accurate decisions are still possible in the majority of cases with this technique inasmuch as the most likely errors in uncoded transmission occur in deciding between adjacent received signal levels. These errors are eliminated by encoding the lower significance bits without the need for encoding the more significant bits.

  • Patent number: 4345471
Abstract: A light source for forming an optical path extending across a closed vessel and a light receiving unit for receiving light from the light source are disposed outside the closed vessel. A portion to have its temperature measured as lies in the closed vessel is provided with a temperature detecting device which consists of a temperature sensor and a light interceptive plate. The temperature sensor is formed to be downwardly convex by sticking two members of different coefficients of thermal expansion one over the other (the member of the larger coefficient of thermal expansion being arranged over the member of the smaller coefficient of thermal expansion). The light interceptive plate is arranged over the member of the larger coefficient of thermal expansion. When the portion to have its temperature measured has reached a predetermined temperature, the temperature sensor inverts the downwardly convex state into an upwardly convex state.

  • Patent number: 4346472
Abstract: A code converting circuit of simple construction composed of an exclusive OR circuit and a flip-flop circuit is provided on each of transmitting and receiving sides of a digital data transmission system according to a differential phase shift keying system, to convert two consecutive errors on adjacent bits peculiar to the differential phase shift keying system into only an error on a single bit. As a result, it is not required to employ a code having an excellent error-correcting capacity in the digital data transmission system, and thus a high transmission efficiency is attained by the use of a code which is relatively deficient in error correcting capacity.

  • Patent number: 4344741
Abstract: A water supplying system has a pneumatic tank storing water and confining compressed air therein. The pneumatic tank is adapted to be charged with water by a pump. The supply of compressed air into the pneumatic tank is controlled in such a manner as to maintain a constant amount of compressed air in the pneumatic tank. A pressure-responsive device is attached to a water service pipe through which the water is discharged from the pneumatic tank and delivered to faucets or the like. The pressure-responsive device has a pressure-responsive valve adapted to break the communication between the pneumatic tank and the water service pipe when the water level in the pneumatic tank has come down near the port of the tank connected to the water service pipe, and a pressure switch adapted to control the operation of the motor for driving the pump in relation to the operation of said pressure-responsive valve.

  • Patent number: 4345215
Abstract: An audio frequency power amplifier circuit comprising a voltage detector for detecting the voltage between the gates of output MOS FETs in Class B push-pull connection, and a bias generator for applying a quiescent bias voltage to the MOS FETs. The bias voltages applied to the MOS FETs are changed in proportion to the output current in such a manner that the output MOS FET to be cut off is impressed with a substantially equal bias voltage in the absence of signal. In this way, the cut off of the push-pull transistor of Class B operation is prevented, thus preventing a switching distortion.

  • Patent number: 4344521
Abstract: Apparatus for conveying rod-like articles, especially cigarettes, includes parallel conveyors for streams of articles and two transfer conveyors which together re-orientate articles in one stream for combination with articles in the other stream. The transfer conveyors each convey articles on a curved path having a substantially vertical axis and include guide means for elevating the outer ends of the articles on the path. In another arrangement parallel opposed conveyors deliver articles to a downwardly-extending junction provided with retractable conveyor bands which may initially extend across the junction to aid filling. The stream on one of the opposed conveyors may be delivered from a further parallel conveyor by a rotary disc transfer conveyor which turns articles through 180 degrees for delivery to the one conveyor. The apparatus is particularly useful for tip-turning of cigarettes at the exit on a filter cigarette assembling machine.
