  • Patent number: 4291615
Abstract: The present linear air outlet comprises a tubular member provided with an air outlet channel formed by two side walls arranged in parallel to each other and reaching into the tubular member. One side wall is perforated. A closure member is movable up and down, for example manually, in the air outlet channel. The closure member has slanted wall surfaces facing alternately into opposite directions inside the air outlet channel so that the slanting surfaces face the respective perforated side wall. Thus, the closure member performs two functions. It opens or closes the perforations in the side walls and with its slanted surfaces it directs the air in a desired direction.

  • Patent number: 4292009
Abstract: The present hingeless rotor system for helicopters has carrier spars or b each of which is subdivided into three functional sections substantially forming the blade neck connecting the lift producing portion of the respective rotor blade to the rotor mast. The carrier spar sections form a single structural blade neck member extending for about two tenths of the rotor radius from the rotor mast to the lift producing blade portions. About one half of the length of the blade neck adjacent to the rotor mast form the connecting zone proper. The spar sections comprise bands forming respective loops in the connecting zone proper. Two of the band loops are connected one above the other and a third band loop is displaced in the direction of rotation of the rotor from the first mentioned band loops. The third band loop is releasably connected to the rotor mast to allow a folding of the respective rotor blade. The spar sections are interconnected by shear resistant bridging webs having a T- or X cross-section.

  • Patent number: 4286490
Abstract: A force may be applied to any point along a line which may be straight or curved in a plane or in space. For this purpose a force applicator is used which includes a pressure expandable hose section closed at its ends, a reaction member against which the hose rests, and a pressure transmitting plate moving in response to an expansion of the hose. These three elements are held in an operative position relative to one another by a modular frame section which also holds a guide member and a reset element for restoring the hose section to a starting position when no pressure is applied inside the hose. A piston rod extends through the guide member and is operatively connected to the pressure transmitting plate. The modular frame section, the guide member and preferably also the reset element form a modular unit.

  • Patent number: 4286306
Abstract: The synchronism or tracking between two analog signals is compared by a cuit arrangement having two inputs to which these analog signals are applied. A comparator circuit compares the two signals and provides a trigger or energizing signal to a switch which in turn produces an error signal when the two compared signals deviate from each other to an extent larger than a predetermined limit. One input is connected to the comparator circuit through a heterodyning circuit wherein the respective analog signal is heterodyned by a heterodyning signal which varies in its polarity. The comparator circuit includes a polarity detector which provides a signal signifying a positive or a negative difference between the amplitudes of the two polarity signals. A discriminator circuit is operatively connected to the comparator to provide a switch energizing signal when the difference signal does not have any zero transitions or passages with the frequency of the heterodyning signal.

  • Patent number: 4285411
Abstract: An electronic weighing apparatus comprises a load cell which provides an analog voltage associated with the weight of an article being placed on the apparatus. The analog voltage is converted into digital data responsive to each timing pulse by means of an analog/digital converter. The digital data is loaded in a digital display buffer responsive to each timing pulse and is then displayed in a digital manner by a display. On the other hand, a stable state detecting circuit compares the current digital data obtained from the analog/digital converter with the preceding digital data and determines the weighed value having reached a stable state upon coincidence of both the current and preceding pieces of the data. The timing pulse and thus the digital data is prevented from being loaded in the display buffer responsive to the output from the stable state detecting circuit, whereby the display buffer continues to maintain the digital data at the time point when the stable state is reached.

  • Patent number: 4282748
Abstract: The moment sensitivity of shear beam transducers is mechanically compensated to make such transducers relatively insensitive to load applications which are off-center relative to an optimal point of load application. Such shear beam transducers have a free end forming a load application section, a mounting section, and a fillet located substantially where the sections merge. The compensation is made by providing the fillet initially with a larger radius than the final compensating radius. The compensation is made by gradually changing the fillet radius until the transducer output shows substantially no difference between the measurement resulting from applying a defined load in the optimal loading point and the measurement resulting from applying the same load off-center the optimal loading point whereby the transducer becomes substantially insensitive to such off-center load applications.

  • Patent number: 4281934
Abstract: The present mixer for construction materials, such as a bituminous sludge, has a trough with an inlet and an outlet and two mixing shafts equipped with blades rotatably supported in the trough in parallel to each other. The blades are uniformly spaced along both shafts and staggered by 90.degree. around each shaft whereby the blades of each shaft follow one another in helical succession. Simultaneously the blades form four in line rows on each shaft. The arrangement of the blades is identical on each shaft except that the helix formed by the blades on one shaft has preferably a pitch direction opposite to that formed by the blades on the other shaft since the shafts rotate in opposite directions but convey in the same direction. The spacing between adjacent blades on both shafts is the same. However, blades located in the same plane extending perpendicularly to the longitudinal axes of the shafts are always spaced by 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 4277996
Abstract: The present apparatus applies force along a line or to a surface through one or more linear or rather longitudinal, elastically expandable or deformable members. The expansion of the elongated member, such as an elastic, reinforced hose or membrane, is transmitted to the tool proper, for example, a strip steel knife or a clamping device, along the entire length of the tool, whereby a linear force application is achieved. Several of such members may be arranged in parallel to obtain substantially a surface area force application. The force application member may also be curved for applying the force, such as a cutting force to an equally curved tool such as a strip steel knife. The force application member is returned to its starting position after a work stroke is completed. The work stroke is performed by expanding the member with the aid of a medium under pressure. The return is accomplished by a spring force or by a similar expansion member.
