  • Patent number: 6654034
Abstract: A system and method for GUI on multiple monitors that are located in the same user work space. This invention involves a computer using an external source that is able to keep track of what applications the user has outside of his/her computer. The computer still has all of these applications within it, but when they are not needed they are taken off the screen. Two methods are disclosed to track these functions of the applications. The first method involves using a connection with the Internet with all the users devices. The second method involves using a video camera to conduct a visual search for certain devices that are on the user's desk. Certain of the items on a user's desk such as an Internet picture frame, a television, a telephone, a calculator, etc. are connected to the Internet. Whether or not the item on the user's desk is being used is determined by the Internet connection. Other items such as a clock, radio, etc. could have a separate source to identify the device.

  • Patent number: 6653027
Abstract: An attenuating embedded phase shift photomask blank that produces a phase shift of the transmitted light is formed with an optically translucent film made of metal, silicon, nitrogen or metal, silicon, nitrogen and oxygen. A wide range of optical transmission (0.001% up to 20% at 193 nm) is obtained by this process. A post deposition process is implemented to obtain the desired properties (stability of optical properties with respect to laser irradiation and acid treatment) for use in industry. A special fabrication process for the sputter target is implemented to lower the defects of the film.

  • Patent number: 6646355
Abstract: A new interconnection scheme is disclosed for a tape automated bonding (TAB) package, a flip chip package and an active matrix liquid crystal display (AMLCD) panel, where an electrically conducting adhesive is used to form an electrical interconnection between an active electronic device and its components. The electrically conducting adhesive can be a mixture comprising a polymer resin, a no-clean solder flux, a plurality of electrically conducting particles with an electrically conducting fusible coating which provides a metallurgical bond between the conducting particles as well as to the substrates. The advantages of using the electrically conducting adhesives include reduction in bonding pressure and/or bonding temperature, control of interfacial reactions, promotion of stable metallurgical bonds, enhanced reliability of the joints, and others.

  • Patent number: 6643639
Abstract: An adaptive resource indexing and lookup method for a customer self service system that performs resource search and selection and includes a resource library having selectable resources. The method includes steps of: receiving a current user query for requesting resources; receiving a user context vector associated with the current user query, the user context vector comprising data associating an interaction state with the user; mapping each user query and associated context vector to a sub-set of resources from the resource library; and, generating a response set including the sub-set of resources that are most relevant to the user's query. An adaptive indexing function implementing a supervised learning algorithm is applied for increasing the value of search results for a current user in their context and for enhancing and optimizing the performance of the resource indexing functions by increasing their relevance and specificity for mapping user queries to resources.

  • Patent number: 6632536
Abstract: New etch barriers of indium-tin-oxide in the manufacturing process of thin film transistor-liquid crystal display are self-assembled monolayers, such as n-alkylsilanes. A typical process of applying a self-assembled monolayer is to ink a hydrolyzed n-octadecyltrimethoxysilane solution on to a stamp and then to transfer the solution onto ITO. The surface of the stamp may be polar enough to be wet with polar self-assembled monolayer solutions of an akylsilane. A non-polar stamp surface may be treated with oxygen plasma to obtain a wettable polar surface.

  • Patent number: 6616863
Abstract: Materials containing precursors to electrically conductive polymers and electrically conductive polymers are described which have a high degree of crystallinity. The high degree of crystallinity is achieved by preparing the materials under conditions which provide a high degree of mobility to the polymer molecules permitting them to associate with one another to form a crystalline state. High levels of electrical conductivity are achieved in the electrically conductive materials without stretch orienting the material. The enhanced electrical conductivity is isotropic as compared to a stretch oriental film which has isotropic electrical conductivity.

  • Patent number: 6614935
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for for encoding units of digital information such as pictures, whereby all the data is first analyzed by running a compression pass over all the data, using the in the encoder embedded rate control mechanism. Picture attributes, such as quantization scale setting and bits produced will be extracted from the resulting bitstream, and analyzing this, indiviudal unit (picture) quantization scale and bit allocation settings are prepared for a next pass for either a constant- or variable bit rate, whereby buffer boundaries are observed. In a second compression pass through the same data, a constant- or variable bit rate compressed bitstream is produced, but this time bypassing the embedded rate control mechanism, and using the prepared picture bit allocation and quantization scale settings instead. Additionally, a mechanism will supervise the total bit production accuracy.

  • Patent number: 6606412
Abstract: The invention provides a method for classifying the motion of an object such as a human being in a moving picture. A template is prepared in advance, which includes the Gabor wavelet expansion coefficients of an object image in a plurality of frames of a video image sequence representing each of a plurality of different reference motions of an object in a moving picture. Then, processing is performed to obtain the Gabor wavelet expansion coefficients of an object image in a plurality of frames of a video image sequence representing an unknown motion of the object. Matching factors are calculated based on the expansion coefficients for the unknown motion and the expansion coefficients for the reference motions in the template, and finally the unknown motion is classified based on the matching factors.

  • Patent number: 6603690
Abstract: A static column redundancy scheme for a semiconductor memory such as an eDRAM. By utilizing the existing scan registers for SRAM array testing, the column redundancy information of each bank or each microcell of the memory chip can be scanned, stored and programmed during the power-on period. Two programming methods are disclosed to find the column redundancy information on the fly. In the first method, the column redundancy information is first stored in the SRAM, and is then written into the program registers of the corresponding bank or microcell location. In the second method, the column redundancy information is loaded directly into the program registers of a bank or microcell location according to the bank address information without loading the SRAM. Since the new static column redundancy scheme does not need to compare the incoming addresses, it eliminates the use of control and decoding circuits, which significantly reduces the power consumption for memory macros.

  • Patent number: 6593644
Abstract: A semiconductor or dielectric wafer with conducting vias is used as a substrate in an integrated circuit packaging structure, where high density inter and intra chip contacts and wiring are positioned on the substrate face on which the integrated circuitry is mounted, and external signal and power circuitry is contacted through the opposite face. Use of a substrate such as silicon permits the use of conventional silicon processes available in the art for providing high wiring density together with matching of the thermal expansion coefficient of any silicon chips in the integrated circuits. The use of vias through the substrate allows a high density of connections leaving the silicon substrate and provides short paths for the connections of power and signals.
