Abstract: 6-Alkoxy derivatives of Ara-G, and pharmaceutically acceptable esters thereof, are described as being useful in tumor therapy. Novel pharmaceutically acceptable esters, their preparation and pharmaceutical formulations containing them are also disclosed.

Abstract: An overhead support for carrying medical appliances and providing supply lines in the medical field comprises support arms and a support column. In order to allow a simple and cheap manufacture of such an overhead support, the support arms are made of an extruded profile having a substantially rectangular cross section, side walls, a top wall, a bottom wall, longitudinal webs extending between the top wall and the bottom wall in a direction substantially parallel to the side walls in spaced relation thereto, and a channel for the supply lines, the channel being defined by the top and bottom walls and the webs.

Abstract: An orthesis joint is provided which has a first support plate, a thigh attachment part hingedly connected thereto through a first bearing bush, a lower leg attachment part connected with the first support plate through a second bearing bush and a connecting member hingedly connected with both attachment parts through a third and fourth bearing bush. Such an orthesis joint is in particular used for knee ortheses. In order to prevent the orthesis joint from chafing at the knee when flexing or stretching the joint a pressure cushion is provided which is carried by the connecting member.

Abstract: A method for treating or preventing a Pneumocystis carinii infection in a mammal by administering a certain naphthoquinone compound or physiologically acceptable salts thereof.

Abstract: Exercise aids for doing inclined pushups which may be positioned on the top of an elevated surface e.g. a table top. The handle bar of each aid is held in one hand and the person plants the bottom of the feet on the floor and does the pushup. The aid has a handle bar which is inclined at an angle of about 30.degree..+-.5.degree. with respect to the bottom surface of the aid which supports it to permit back and forth push up type motion.

Abstract: A shock and vibration isolator having a diaphragm and a bumper attached to the diaphragm. The bumper is also provided with a damper attached to the bumper. The isolator has an internal chamber in which an incompressible fluid and a compressible fluid within the chamber are in contact with each other and in which the damper is submerged. The diaphragm has a flexible fabric imbedded in the diaphragm and extending into the sidewall.

Abstract: 1R-cis,1'R-cis isomer of a 2',2'-(3,11-dioxo-4,10-dioxatridecylene)-bis(1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6, 7-dimethoxy-2-methyl-1-veratrylisoquinolium) said, substantially free from other geometrical and optical isomers thereof. The 1R-cis,1'R-cis isomer has been found to have an advantageous combination of pharmacological properties, notably greater neuromuscular blocking potency, weaker histamine-releasing potency, and at equivalent levels of neuromuscular blockade, fewer potential adverse effects on the autonomic nervous system (sympathetic and parasympathetic blockage), in comparison with the known mixture of geometrical and optical isomers.

Abstract: Use of Methyl N-[6-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyloxy)imidazo [1,2-6]pyridazin-2-yl]carbamate or pharmaceutically acceptable salt to treat lymphocytic leukemia is disclosed.

Abstract: A bone screw comprises a receiver member (5) and a screw member (1) having a threaded portion (2) and a head (3) having a spherical segment-shaped portion. The receiver member (5) comprises an internal thread (10) for allowing a relative adjustment of receiver member and screw member and the connection of the receiver member with a round rod. A pressure means (12) acts onto the head (3) and the rod (16) is placed on top of the pressure means. The arrangement is locked by means of a rod locking nut (13) and a lock nut (14) is screwed onto an external thread (11).

Abstract: A device for manufacturing bifocal contact lenses is provided. It comprises a rotating head stock provided with an eccentric head supporting a lense holder for holding a lense blank. The lense holder is displaceable with respect to said eccentric head in a radial direction perpendicular to the axis of rotation. A sled is provided for supporting a cutting tool. Said sled pivotable around an axis which coincides with said axis of rotation and in addition displaceable to change the radii.For avoiding a step which would result at the junction line dividing the distant vision segment and the near vision segment, a control is provided for adjusting the tool to a first radius R1 for cutting the distant vision segment and for adjusting said tool to a second radius R2 for cutting said near vision segment. After cutting the distant vision segment during a first operation, the near vision segment is cut during a second operation such that a continuous transition is achieved between both segments.

Abstract: A packaging machine comprises a frame, at least two work stations arranged behind each other and carried by the frame and transport means for advancing the packaging material. In order to simplify the manufacture and to reduce the weight of the frame parts the lateral frame parts have a substantially U-shaped cross-section having an upper cross-link and two downwardly directed sidewalls. The free ends of the sidewalls are connected by connecting members.

Abstract: A controlled sustained release tablet having at least one year shelf life and containing bupropion hydrochloride, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose and cysteine hydrochloride or glycine hydrochloride with the tablet having a surface area to volume ratio to effectively control bupropion hydrochloride release in the body.
