  • Patent number: 6357486
Abstract: In a weaving loom of the Jacquard type comprising electrical actuators for displacing heddles controlling the position of the warp yarns, the following steps are carried out: a so-called “normal effort” is determined, exerted by at least one actuator on at least one harness cord in order to displace, between two positions of its normal stroke, at least one heddle connected to a normally taut warp yam; from this normal effort, at least one threshold value representative of a limit of a range of values of normal weaving effort is determined; while the loom is in operation, a so-called “operational effort” exerted by this actuator on the harness cord is determined; at least one value representative of this operational effort is compared with the threshold value, and a first, so-called “anomaly signal” is generated when the value representative of the operational effort is outside the afore-mentioned range.

  • Patent number: 6345235
Abstract: This invention relates to methods and apparatus for determining the multi-dimensional topology of a substance (system) within a volume (space). A method according to a preferred embodiment of the invention comprises the steps of: acquiring a set of relative values for the density (scalar properties) of the volume, each value for a given location (point) within the volume; interpolating a set of functions to generate a continuous relative density for the volume; identifying critical points of the continuous relative density by using an eigenvector following method; and associating critical points with one another by following a gradient path of the continuous relative density between the critical points, The method is applicable to a wide range of data relating to fields such as crystallography, fluid dynamics, edge detection, and financial markets, to determine the topology of structures contained therein.

  • Patent number: 6343133
Abstract: A loudspeaker system of improved clarity, coherence and uniformity of energy distribution containing mid frequency sound chambers with an annular input and approximately rectangular output for use in multi-way co-axial horn loaded line array systems. The sound chambers propagate the annular mid frequency sound wave co-axially with a high frequency sound wave, gradually changing the cross section of the mid frequency wavefront resulting in co-linear acoustic mid and high frequency wavefronts from multiple devices which range from the shape of a flat ribbon to that of a curved ribbon. The sound chambers may be arrayed contiguously and placed at the entrance of a suitable waveguide to form a wide band width acoustic line source of extended length and controlled beamwidth.
