Abstract: A heat pack containing a super-cooled aqueous solution is provided comprising a flexible container having at least two compartments separated by a rupturable seal housing an aqueous solution in one compartment and having the other compartment remain empty.
Abstract: A process for securing a guiding member on a support which includes at least one opening which is substantially greater in dimension than an end of the guiding member which is supported therein. A space provided between the at least one opening and the end of the guiding member is filled with a polymerizable resin which is polymerized to secure the guide member within the opening after the guiding member has been precisely positioned in a predetermined position. A marking apparatus incorporates the guiding member secured to the support, and elements are provided for retaining the guiding member in position within the at least one opening and, in some embodiments, for selectively adjusting or removing the guide bar from the at least one opening.
Abstract: A railway vehicle bogie, including at least two axles, at least one side member being provided to connect the axles to a central part of the bogie. The side member is formed by an elastic blade shaped as a vertically oriented continuous flattened loop which may be made of composite material or of metal. A process for manufacturing a side member of composite material consists in winding a continuous lap of reinforcing fibers over at least one turn around two studs so as to form a loop, and polymerizing a resin-based matrix around the fibers.
Abstract: An implement for use with a bucket mounted to a dipper boom of an earth working machine wherein the implement includes bars slidable mounting within guide elements mounted to the dipper boom such that the bars may be moved by gravity from a first position spaced from the bucket to a second position in generally opposing relationship with respect to an opening in the bucket so as to facilitate the retention of materials within the bucket.
Abstract: Springs associated with a harness of a weaving loom of the Jacquard type are connected on a frame of the loom by an assembly of devices each of which includes a plurality of rods each being connectable with a spring and which rods extend from a common base. Each base is provided with hooks adapted to engage with beaks of corresponding shape for mounting each device on at least one elongated section secured to the frame of the loom.
Abstract: An improved urological or gynecological examination- and treatment bench of the kind which comprises a frame having a lowermost portion and an uppermost portion, preferably designed as a pivotal arm and raisable and lowerable carrying a back cushion (11) that is individually adjustable at least to its angular position with respect to the horizontal plane, and at least one seat cushion (12) which is similarly individually adjustable to its angular position with respect to the horizontal plane. At least one of the pivatal axis for the angular adjustment of the back cushion (11) or the seat cushion (12) may be released and is arranged in such a manner that it is adjustable in dependence of a change of position of the pivotal axis of the other cushion, so that the two cushions are jointly movable under operation of only one of them and while retaining their mutual angular position.
Abstract: This invention is a method for reduction of hair loss and stimulation of hair growth on the scalp of a human patient. The method comprises the step of administering a presynaptic neurotoxin into the scalp of the patient in a quantity and concentration to provide a therapeutically-effective flaccid paralysis of the muscle tissue outside of the skull of the patient. The result is a reduction in tissue tension in the desired area of hair-growth without affecting any tissue not outside the skull of the patient.
Abstract: Method for wet cleaning gases to remove low soluble pollutants such as mercury metal and nitrogen monoxide. An oxidizing agent is released from a compound such as a sodium chlorite, injected into a recycle stream being conveyed for dispensing into a scrubber, by a releasing agent, such as finely divided solids in the recycle stream, so that the oxidizing agent becomes available at the time of dispersion into the scrubber to oxidize the pollutants on the surface of droplets dispersed throughout the gases in the scrubber. The resulting oxidized pollutants have increased solubility and are transferred to a scrubbing liquid.

Abstract: A device for positioning warp yarns of a weaving loom which are controlled by electrical actuators for forming a shed which includes a first detector common to the warp yarns driven by a plurality of different actuators for detecting the passage of at least one warp yarn into a predetermined position, and a second device for determining a value of a control parameter of an actuator for controlling movement of the at least one warp yarn upon passage into the predetermined position. The process consists in displacing a warp yarn and detecting its passage into a predetermined position and selecting a value of a control parameter of an actuator for the warp yarn upon passage of the warp yarn into the predetermined position and in using the selected value as a control point for controlling an actuator for the warp yarn.
Abstract: Factors and methods for disrupting or inhibiting the association of protomers of a multimeric protein are described. Such inhibition reduces the biological disorders. Particularly, novel neurotrophin antagonists are described. Generally, the antagonist comprises amino acids from positions 68-58 and 108-110 of a neurotrophin, in which the amino acid from position 68 is covalently bound to the amino acid from position 108 and the amino acid from position 58 is covalently bound to the amino acid at position 110 to form a bicyclic structure, in another aspect of the invention transition metal ions are provided for selectively altering the geometry of the receptor binding domains of neurotrophins which allows functionality and activity of the neurotrophins to be selectively reduced. For example Zn2+ alters the conformation of NGF rendering it unable to bind to p75NTR or TrkA receptors or to activate signal transduction and biological outcomes normally induced by this protein.

Abstract: An assist step for a stirrup associated with a saddle wherein the step is secured to or formed integrally with an outer side element of the stirrup which is pivotally mounted at a base of the stirrup such that when pivoted downwardly relative to the base, the step provides a platform for assisting a rider in mounting a saddle. The outer side element also functions as a safety breakaway portion for the stirrup to permit release of a rider's foot in the event a rider falls from the saddle.
Abstract: Each element in an array of display elements has first and second limiting positions and in respective limiting positions selectively displays a bright and a dark surface in a viewing direction. A transparent sheet is intermediate the array and the viewer. Conductors on the sheet power light sources in the sheet to thereby direct light toward the array.
Abstract: A method and a device for decontaminating soil on the spot from harmful substances. In the soil one or several horizontally drilled holes (10) are arranged debouching into the ground surface. In the hole a chord (16) is inserted in form of a hose or a number of interconnected sockets, in which reactive sorbents are stored. The chord (16) remains in the ground during a sufficiently long period for achieving a desired decontamination of the soil.
