Patent number: 6350321Abstract: A cluster system controls the interface properties of the films that deposit or grow on a silicon substrate. The system comprises a plurality of horizontal quartz chamber or tubes each of which can hold a large quantity of wafers, a transfer chamber and a load/unload chamber. Several process steps can be executed sequentially in different tubes without intermediate exposure to ambient air. A transfer chamber connects them and allows wafer transportation from one tube to another in an absolute controlled UHV environment which limits any contamination such as H2O, to less than a monolayer level. In addition, each tube can be pumped down to UHV pressure regime to avoid further cross contamination between tubes or particle generation. Since some of the process requires elevated temperature, all wafers are placed vertically on the quartz boat to prevent any wafer sagging as in a vertical furnace.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1998Date of Patent: February 26, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Kevin K. Patent number: 6339512Abstract: A hard disk has a servo loop and a rotating storage medium. The rotating storage medium has one or more significant flutter modes at frequencies below a zero cross frequency of a rejection transfer function of the servo loop. The effect of the forgoing is to allow the servo loop to better track a rotating medium that is subject to significant flutter. Peak filters with frequency bands that substantially overlap frequency bands of the significant flutter modes can also be added to the servo loop to further improve tracking. Multiple narrow band filters with frequency bands overlap can be used to cover the spectrum of a single flutter mode. Two lag-lead filters, the frequency responses of which overlap can be used to cover two adjacent significant flutter modes. At frequencies intermediate to the two adjacent flutter, modes, the lead caused by one filter, will be cancelled by the lag caused by the second.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1999Date of Patent: January 15, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: S. Patent number: 6327671Abstract: A data storage facility provides a remote copy operation that copies data write updates from a primary data store to a remote site by identifying which bytes in a block update have changed and sending only the changed bytes from the primary data store to the remote site. An exclusive-OR (XOR) logic operation is used to identify the changed bytes by XOR'ing the original data block with the changed block. Data compression can then be used on the XOR data block to delete the unchanged bytes, and when the compressed block is sent to the remote site, only the unchanged bytes will be sent, thereby reducing the bandwidth needed between the primary store and the remote site.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1998Date of Patent: December 4, 2001Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Jaishankar Moothedath Menon

Patent number: 6327003Abstract: A method is provided for correcting flicker and flutter of an OSD on a video image. According to the method, values of pixels of the OSD are stored, pixels of lines of the OSD that are to be displayed without processing are substituted for pixels of the video image, and pixels of lines of the OSD that are to be displayed after processing are subjected to a mathematical filter. In the subjecting step, the value of another pixel of the video image is assigned to each pixel of the video image that is required by the mathematical filter but presently unavailable, with the other pixel belonging to the same column as the required pixel. In a preferred embodiment, the required pixel is a pixel of the video image that is not covered by the OSD, and the other pixel belongs to the closest line of the video image that is covered by the OSD. This makes it possible to simplify the use of mathematical filters associated with a unique equation for all of the lines of the overlaid OSD.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1999Date of Patent: December 4, 2001Assignee: STMicroelectronics S.A.Inventor: Mark Vos
