  • Patent number: 4160287
Abstract: The invention concerns an electrolyzer power supply, especially for use in the industrial production of hydrogen. It is constituted by four sub-assemblies placed side-by-side in a filter-press type structure. These sub-assemblies each comprise electrodes coupled two by two, electrolytic compartments being defined between two groups of electrodes. One group of these electrodes, preferably half of them being made of a metal that has a rectifying effect on AC current, and preferably being aluminum, aluminum-zinc alloys, niobium or tantalum. The counter-electrodes are adapted to evolve oxygen. They are preferably iron, nickel or carbon. A generator providing an alternating current is connected between the end electrodes and between the second and third sub-assemblies. DC is taken from between the first and second and from between the third and fourth sub-assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4159533
Abstract: An electronic cash register comprises a read only memory, a central processor unit, entry and function keys, memory means including an entry memory storing input data from said entry keys and first and second data memories storing respectively first and second data, a double function key for transferring first data to the first data memory and second data to the second data memory, and printing means for printing input data, price total and further the first and second data. The memory means further comprises a first flag memory storing a "1" when the entry memory stores the first data and a second flag memory storing a "1" when first data is transferred from the entry memory to the first data memory. When the double function key is operated while first data is stored in the entry memory and a "1" is stored only in the first flag memory, the first data is transferred to the first data memory and the second flag memory now stores a "1". The entry and first flag memories are then cleared.

  • Patent number: 4159039
Abstract: The invention is to drive an article into an object or extract it therefrom by means of strain energy. The article is provided at its top with an elastic part having a reaction material for giving a tensile strain or a compressive strain to the elastic part via the reaction material in order to accumulate the strain energy in the elastic part. For carrying out the driving operation, the strain energy is abruptly released from the top of the elastic part, otherwise the compressive strain is abruptly released from the bottom of the elastic part. The strain energy is transformed into a kinetic energy and the article is struck on its head by this kinetic energy so that a compressive strain wave is generated in the article being driven. For carrying out the extracting operation, the compressive strain is abruptly released from the top of the elastic part, otherwise the tensile strain is abruptly released from the bottom of the elastic part.

  • Patent number: 4157948
Abstract: To provide rapid, external heating of a solid electrolyte body exposed to gases, the solid electrolyte is applied, for example by plasma spraying, to a disk-like metallic carrier plate which has an insulated coating thereover, in which the carrier plate is formed with openings throughout its circumference leaving connecting strips between the openings. Heating current conductors are connected at locations opposite the openings so that the connecting strips will form resistance paths heating the electrolyte body on the plate. A catalytically inactive electrode is applied to the electrolyte at one side of the plate, and a catalytically active coating is applied to the electrolyte at the other side of the plate.

  • Patent number: 4157491
Abstract: The motor is serially connected with a diode and a sensing resistor so that half waves of one polarity, for example negative, can flow through the motor and provide, across the resistor, a voltage drop corresponding to loading placed on the motor. A thyristor is connected in parallel to the diode and reversely poled to conduct the other half wave, then the positive, if triggered. Triggering of the thyristor is controlled by the voltage drop across the sensing resistor so that, under no-load conditions, only the negative half waves will be applied to the motor, thus limiting its no-load speed but, as loading is placed thereon, increasing portions of the positive half waves are likewise passed through the motor.

  • Patent number: 4156393
Abstract: Sluice gate members mounted for swinging movement about a shaft offset from the center of a furnace and arranged to be moved both gradually and discontinuously are interposed between an upper pyrolysis and precombustion chamber and a lower afterburning chamber. The movement of these sluice gate members causes particles of the fire bed supported on them to drop down into the afterburning chamber, largely in the form of embers, at about the same rate as additional waste material is added to the fire bed, so as to maintain a fire bed of approximately constant size. The sluice gate members are hollow and secondary air is blown into them near the shafts on which they are mounted and flows out through holes on their bottom surfaces and in their facing tip edges and then proceeds downward to contribute to the afterburning process.

  • Patent number: 4155497
Abstract: To improve smoothness of tape transport in a spiral path over a guide cylinder, the guide rollers located immediately adjacent the guide cylinder, and journalled to rotate about an axis inclined with respect to the axis of the guide cylinder, can rotate about respective axes of rotation which are variable with respect to the axis of inclination defined by the bearing means journalling the guide rollers to permit self-balancing and self-adjustment of the spiral path of the tape about the cylinder during operation of the apparatus in dependence on the forces applied by the tape on the immediately adjacent rollers. Variation of the axis of rotation can be obtained by providing a central bearing for the roller about its axis of rotation, the bearing having a slight amount of play, and being offset with respect to the center of the tape passing around the roller to direct the edge of the tape against a guide surface and provide a fixed bias force on the bearing.
