Patent number: 6512608Abstract: There is disclosed an optical device in which a first light source for outputting a first wavelength light is apart from a second light source for outputting a second wavelength light by a predetermined distance. An information recording medium is irradiated with the first and second wavelength lights transmitted through a holographic optical element having first and second diffraction areas. The first and second diffraction areas are provided with grating arrangements in which grating axis directions are parallel to each other and grating pitches are different from each other. The first and second wavelength lights reflected by the information recording medium are transmitted through the holographic optical element and diffracted by the first and second diffraction areas.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2000Date of Patent: January 28, 2003Assignee: Victor Company of Japan, LimitedInventor: Minoru Ohyama

Patent number: 6507843Abstract: Emerging patterns (EPs) are itemsets having supports that change significantly from one dataset to another. A classifier, CAEP, is disclosed using the following main ideas based on EPs: (i) Each EP can sharply differentiate the class membership of a (possibly small) fraction of instances containing the EP, due to the big difference between the EP's supports in the opposing classes; the differentiating power of the EP is defined in terms of the EP's supports and ratio, on instances containing the EP. (ii) For each instance t, by aggregating (124) the differentiating power of a fixed, automatically selected set of EPs, a score is obtained for each class (126). The scores for all classes are normalized (144) and the largest score determines t's class (146). CAEP is suitable for many applications, even those with large volumes of high dimensional data. CAEP does not depend on dimension reduction on data and is usually equally accurate on all classes even if their populations are unbalanced.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2000Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Kent Ridge Digital LabsInventors: Guozhu Dong, Jinyan Li, Limsoon Wong, Xiuzhen Zhang

Patent number: 6492065Abstract: A thickness of each hologram lens for forming a hologram color filter is set so as to be smaller as the wavelength of light to be diffracted by each hologram lens is shorter. A thin plate glass layer is bonded to a surface of the hologram color filter such that it is in a firm contact therewith by adhesive agent and a sum of the thickness of the thin plate glass layer and thickness of the adhesive agent is smaller than the shortest focal length of the focal lengths in glass of a plurality of the hologram lenses. As a result, light diffracted and divided by the hologram color filter is focused on a picture element electrode of a corresponding color properly thereby eliminating deterioration of color reproduction due to mixing of colors. Further, upon production of the hologram color filter from hologram recording material, an influence of a fringe rotation is compensated.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 1998Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: Victor Company of Japan, LimitedInventors: Shintaro Nakagaki, Shigeo Shimizu, Hirofumi Imaoka

Patent number: 6492920Abstract: A coding table portion includes six coding tables each storing a code word and status information indicating a coding table for use in modulating a next input data word in order to obtain a next code word which satisfies a predetermined run length restriction rule even if the next code word is coupled directly with the preceding code word, corresponding to each input data word. In the coding table portion, the code words and status informations allocated corresponding to input data words of a number set up preliminarily in succession from the highest appearance frequency to a lower one in one or more coding tables of the plural coding tables are replaced with code words having smaller RDSs and status informations allocated corresponding to other input data words in the same coding table. Consequently, the input data word is modulated using the six coding tables.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2001Date of Patent: December 10, 2002Assignee: Victor Company of Japan, LimitedInventors: Tsuyoshi Oki, Atsushi Hayami

Patent number: 6483944Abstract: A picture target amount-of-code calculating unit calculates a target amount of codes for each picture type that corresponds to an encoding rate that has been determined by an audio/video encoding rate determining unit. An amount-of-code controlling unit controls the quantizing scale of a quantizing unit so as to make the target amount of codes for each picture type match with a total amount of codes of a unit as a whole. A unit address calculating unit calculates the addresses used when a search is made, as navigation data, on the basis of the target amount of codes for each picture type and the encoding rate. A unifying unit makes a construction of the unit while, on the other hand, a navigation data producing unit depicts navigation data at a foremost position of the unit.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1999Date of Patent: November 19, 2002Assignee: Victor Company of Japan, LimitedInventors: Takayuki Sugahara, Junzo Suzuki

Patent number: 6480756Abstract: A method for monitoring the real-time production operation is disclosed. The used stage time, the used waiting time, and the theoretical remaining processing time is counted. The allowed stage time, the allowed waiting time, and the allowed slack time is also estimated. The critical stage ratio, the critical waiting ratio, and the critical slack ratio are then calculated by the following equations: critical stage ratio=allowed stage time/used stage time; critical slack ratio=allowed slack time/theoretical remaining processing time; critical waiting ratio=allowed waiting time/used waiting time. Thereafter, the status of the lot in a stage is graded according to its critical ratio of stage, slack, and waiting. Color codes are used to indicate the critical degrees. A stage critical degree report including the WIPs and the color codes is tabled to display all the statuses of the stage.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 1999Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hwei-Tsu Ann Luh, Lieh-Chang Tai, Hsin-Ming Hong, Bin-Hong Lin, Min-Huey Tsai

Patent number: 6480902Abstract: The inventive system mainly includes a synchronization marker at a transmitting site and a synchronization forcer at a receiving site connecting to each other via computer networks. The synchronization marker performs the sequential mark marking of frames per every marking interval. The synchronization forcer regulates the play time of the audio signals and their corresponding video signals according to their sequential marks. The inventive system can determine precisely about the minimum marking interval yielding a bounded skew requirement. Consequently, the invention satisfies any given skew requirement under various buffer size and traffic arrivals while imposing minimal overhead.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 1999Date of Patent: November 12, 2002Assignee: Institute for Information IndustryInventors: Maria C. Patent number: 6473674Abstract: A light emitting sensor emits light toward sheets carried along a carriage path and the quantity of light transmitted through each to the sheets is detected by a light receiving sensor. A predetermined sampling number of electric signals indicative of light quantity detected by the light receiving sensor is stored in a memory. A histogram of the light quantities stored in the memory is created. A light quantity corresponding to a maximum frequency for an underlying portion of the sheets is detected based on the created histogram. A multiple feed of the sheets is detected based on a variation in the light quantity of the maximum frequency for the underlying portion.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: Riso Kagaku CorporationInventor: Shinya Okada
