  • Patent number: 7565764
Abstract: The invention is directed to an insect collection and viewing device comprising a negative air pressure generating assembly including a motor and a fan driven by the motor and a suitably shaped collection nozzle. A viewing chamber is coupled intermediate the collection nozzle and the negative air pressure assembly. The viewing chamber is tubular in shape and has an air permeable-insect impermeable screen at the downstream opening thereof and a movable valve/lens at the upstream opening thereof. When the valve/lens is open an air flow is established through the device. The air flow path is from the nozzle through the viewing chamber into and out of the assembly. In operation insects of interest are captured by sucking the insect into the device through the nozzle, then through the open valve/lens into the viewing chamber where it is captured between the screen and the closed valve. By making the valve in the shape of a transparent lens the trapped insect may be inspected through the magnifying lens.

  • Patent number: 7554446
Abstract: A system and method for monitoring a facility is provided. Generally, the system comprises monitoring tags wherein each monitoring tag emits an identifier signal unique to each monitoring tag, monitoring sensors wherein the monitoring sensors receive signals from the monitoring tags and relay the signals to one or more monitoring stations, and monitoring stations wherein the monitoring stations log and display information associated with the signals received. The monitoring station identifies possible events based on the signals received from the monitoring sensors. The monitoring station alerts staff members of the events via a graphical user interface, pagers, email, and alarms.

  • Patent number: 7549867
Abstract: The transfer apparatus is directed toward electrical transfer components providing an electrical connection to a rotating object. The transfer apparatus includes a stator base mounted proximate to the rotating object. An axle rotatably mounts at least one conductive disk to the stator base. The conductive disk is held against the rotating object. As the rotating object rotates about a first axis, the conductive disk is made to rotate about a second axis, the second axis otherwise maintaining a static position. A rotationally immobile contact is maintained in substantial electronic contact with the conductive disk whereby a lead wire may be connected to the immobile contact.

  • Patent number: 7538936
Abstract: To induce a targeted non-linear optical effect by a high-peak-power light by using a light pulse from a semiconductor laser without using a light pulse from a large, high-average-power solid laser such as titanium sapphire laser. A semiconductor laser pulse beam with a wavelength of 1550 nm (for example, repeatability of 1 MHz) from a semiconductor laser (laser diode: LD) is efficiently amplified in two stages, front-end and main EDFAs. An optical filter removes a spontaneous emission light component that is noise. An optical filter picks up, from the amplified pulse beam, second harmonic light pulse produced by the non-linearity of an optical device (frequency polarization inversion Mg-added LiNbO3:PPMgLN) to produce a super-continuum light in a 800 nm wavelength region from a photonic crystal fiber (PCF).
