  • Patent number: 4727990
Abstract: An automatic control device for a boundary plate of a grain separator for separating a grain mixture into different grains. The grain separator has a separator plate provided with a roughened surface and mounted at inclinations in both of longitudinal and lateral directions with respect to the horizontal plane. A lateral movement is imparted to the different grains on the separator plate by a lateral oscillation given to the separator plate or by a lateral jet of air jetted from a numerous small aperture formed in the separator plate, so that the flow fluxes of different grains are deflected away from each other due to the difference in the physical properties such as specific weight and/or friction coefficient, so that the mixture of different grains are separated.

  • Patent number: 4728223
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved method of relining a sewer especially a small diameter sewer with a plurality of lengths of pipe. From a control station remote from the sewer, pipes are moved up the sewer to the fixed lining. The pipe is then inductively fusion welded to the lining and the annulus between the pipe and the sewer is sealed with grout. All these operations are controlled from the control station. Also provided by the invention is a method of accurately locating laterals in the sewer and cutting holes in the pipe and accurately aligning these holes with the lateral to accommodate the lateral. Also provided is a grouting pump for forming grout in situ in the sewer.

  • Patent number: 4721709
Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions are disclosed which contain hydrophobic practically water-insoluble drugs adsorbed onto carriers such as starch and/or microcrystalline cellulose. The rate of dissolution and absorption in the body is improved due to the very fine particle size of the drug adsorbed onto the carriers. The drug particles have a mean size of less than 10 microns the size distribution of particles being such that at least 95% of particles are smaller than 15 microns. A process for the preparation of drug-carrier adsorbates and their incorporation in pharmaceutical compositions is also disclosed. The use of such compositions to treat mammals is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4717113
Abstract: An injection molding system is provided with a plurality of wall segments which are displaceable substantially radially for forming a substantially continuous wall which forms an internal wall of a hollow region which is intended to be filled with molten molding material. In a preferred embodiment, the wall segments are urged into sliding communication with one another and sealable engagement with a further wall portion by operation of an actuator assembly which is provided with canted pins which cause the wall segments to be moved radially inwardly and outwardly in response to orthogonal displacement of the actuator assembly. The invention is therefore particularly suited for forming molded articles having hollow interiors and/or internally ribbed portions. In an embodiment where a slot is desired in the molded article, a slot core is arranged to communicate with the molten molding material, so as to form the slot, and an ejection mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4715968
Abstract: A process for rendering polymer compositions antistatic and the products of such process are described. The polymeric material is treated with selected amino and sulfonyl titanates and zirconates. These latter materials are soluble in the polyolefins, polyesters and polystyrenes and remain stable during the processing of these polymers. Furthermore, the antistatic agents of the invention do not "bloom" during the polymer processing.

  • Patent number: 4712249
Abstract: A valve which is to be used as a component of plastics bags and trays for packaging foodstuffs and other perishable goods. The valve consists essentially of a small spherical chamber having an inlet and an outlet. The chamber is made from two hemi-spherical walls having different resilience. In order to close the valve one wall is made to spring into contact with the other wall so that the two walls enter into such close intimate contact that communication between the inlet and the outlet through the valve is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4710194
Abstract: An intraocular lens having a hydrophilic optical element. The hydrophilic material of the optical element is capable of being hydrated by the natural fluid in the eye to expand after implantation to provide an optically correct lens of suitable diameter, to permit implantation of the lens through an incision of minimal length corresponding to the diameter of the dry lens and thus restoring the vision of the patient with minimal trauma. The lens includes position-fixation members and connecting means for securing the hydrophilic optic to the position-fixation member. The position-fixation members are connected to the hydrophilic optic element in such manner that the lens can be seated in the eye prior to expansion of the hydrophilic optic and expansion after seating does not impact substantial movement to the position-fixation members. The invention also includes the improved method of implantation through an incision of minimal length.

  • Patent number: 4701258
Abstract: A filter housing comprises a body (1) designed to provide at least one flow path (8) therein. A filter may be secured to the body in operative connection with the flow path. The flow path opens into a substantially planar external face (9) of the body, and behind that external face the body is formed with passages (15a) lying one to each side of the opening, each passage having an internal wedge face facing away from the external face (9) and lying in a plane that makes an acute angle with the plane of the external face. When two such housings are placed with their planar external faces one in contact with the other and with their flow paths in axial alignment, they may be connected together by drawing wedge members (20) into the passages of the respective housings to draw the housings tightly together.

  • Patent number: 4701251
Abstract: Apparatus for sputter coating a disc comprises an evacuable chamber with a disc entry and exit opening. A disc to be coated is supported at the center of the disc by support means and drive means move the support means along a disc path between a disc loading position outside the chamber and a disc coating position within the chamber. Inside the chamber are two pivotally mounted cathodes each having coating material to be sputtered applied to a surface thereof. The cathodes are mounted to pivot between the withdrawn position lying clear of the disc path and operating position wherein the cathodes lie one to each side of the disc when this is in the coating position. Means are provided for rotating the support means and thus the disc about the disc center when in the coating position and during such rotation coating material is sputtered from the cathodes simultaneously onto both sides of the disc.

  • Patent number: RE32543
Abstract: A regenerative braking system for a linear induction motor includes a control device to increase the frequency slip in a braking mode and reduce the regenerative capacity of the motor. The control device is regulated by sensing means which monitor the voltage of the external power conductor and increase the slip if the voltage exceeds a predetermined value. This reduces the power regenerated by the motor and prevents excessive voltages in the conductor. A latch prevents cycling between the full and reduced regenerative braking to prevent oscillation of the braking force and is reset upon selection of a motoring condition for the motor.
