  • Patent number: 4142590
Abstract: A lubricating system for plow blades has a plurality of tube outlets positioned near a bottom portion of a plow blade and aligned to expel a dilute polymer lubricating fluid upward and onto a surface of the plow blade. As the plow blade scrapes up ground material, the scrapings distribute the lubricating fluid over the surface of the plow blade. Each of the tube outlets is supplied with lubricating fluid from a storage container via a pump connected to a positive displacement distribution block. In a farm plow system having eight separate plowshares, four positive displacement distribution blocks and one master distribution block are employed to supply lubricating fluid to twenty tube outlets.

  • Patent number: 4141788
Abstract: Multi-ply web forming stock jets directed through a slice from a single headbox into a forming zone between converging forming surfaces in a papermaking machine are maintained separated for a sufficient interval after leaving the slice opening to permit drainage and partial ply formation of the stock delivered by one of the stock jets to one of the forming surfaces before the stock in a second of the stock jets joins in fiber felting laminar relation with the contiguous surface of the partially formed ply. Flexible divider sheet members divide the slice chamber of a headbox into separate flow passages aligned respectively with different ones of headbox subchambers to receive streams of the stock from the respective subchambers and maintain the streams separated, and the flexible members extend a substantial distance out of the slice opening in the direction of flow of the stock jets to maintain stock jets separated for a sufficient interval after leaving the slice opening.

  • Patent number: 4142140
Abstract: A stepping motor control circuit incorporates two sources of pulses for driving a stepping motor, one of which has a frequency greater than the maximum frequency which the motor can follow. A pair of shift registers are used for effecting acceleration and deceleration of the stepping motor, when the high frequency pulse source is used. A first shift register stores an acceleration pulse sequence, to supply pulses to the stepping motor at an increasing rate, after which pulses are supplied directly to the stepping motor from the high frequency pulse source. The second shift register is energized to apply deceleration pulses to the stepping motor. Pulses having a relatively low frequency are supplied directly to the stepping motor when only a small motor movement is required.

  • Patent number: 4141710
Abstract: A method of producing a light conducting fiber comprises the steps of providing a base member of an optical material such as glass or a synthetic glass-like material, depositing at least one optical material forming layer such as a glass forming layer or a synthetic glass-like material forming layer from a liquid phase on a surface of the base member and subsequently transforming each of the layers into a film of optical material such as a glass film or a synthetic glass-like film. The base member may be a glass tube and the optical material forming layers may be deposited on an interior surface and after the layers have been transformed into a film, the tube is collapsed into a rod and then subsequently drawn into a cladded light conducting fiber. In one embodiment of the invention, the base member is a rod and the layers are deposited on a surface of the rod which is subsequently drawn into a cladded light conducting fiber.
